Blurb : Jack Beckford has always thought of Zoe Beech as the one who got away. So when Zoe returns to the small town of her childhood he sees a chance to rekindle their love. Zoe, however, has sworn that she’s done with men, and the last thing she needs is a run in with her first love. But when circumstances see them locked up together there's no escaping the way he makes her feel.
My review :
Beck and Zoe have history together, unfinished story. And past unsaid hurts that were the key of their present predicament. I just loved Beck, he is kind and honest, and Zoe’s departure without even a word left his wounded but still in need to see her, even ten years later. Zoe is so set to be nobody Zoe that she can’t see what was straight in front of her, she chooses her fear over the risk to be hurt and finally she gained only pain. And cowardly she ran away and when she get a chance to set things right, she flights once more. A sweet romance with a caring and forgiving hero and the woman who will have to learn to deserve him. 4,5 stars
I was granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
I have read a few of these stories so far and I couldn’t read anymore without leaving a quick review.
A great selection of locked in stories.
If you don’t mind reading out of order, go straight to Gigi Blume’s Pita my Heart. It’s brilliant, it had me giggling at the antics and the puns. It was just so good, I’m going to have to go back and reread it.
I also really enjoyed the one by Laura Burton, What I don’t like about you, which had me intrigued beyond measure.
The story was sweet and endearing and I must admit I was definitely hoping Mark found away past Debbies prickly exterior. Such a good and fun quick read.
Can not wait to read the rest of the books in the series of hers.
Another great story is by Dobi Daniels and it’s called A Doctors Second Chance for the Rancher
This was a really sweet continuation story to the Dexington Medical romance series.
This about an older couple who were split up 30 years ago but never stopped loving the other. When a broken down car brings him to her doorstep it opens up a whole can of worms.
The family members of each of them were quite endearing and you could so imagine them doing the antics they got up too.
Can’t wait to finish this Box Set. Go get your copy right now, you won’t regret it
Review of Cindy Ray Hale's Her Senator's Second Chance
There's always something pleasing about characters who are given another shot at love. Natasha dumped Adam out of the blue in high school and a chance meeting (that could only be fate) years later proved that their attraction was just as strong as ever.
Each of these characters has worked hard through life to accomplish what they have and to get to where they are, and that message showed me just how committed they could be to each other. Alas, Adam has a small problem--he's engaged to someone else. Someone who could help further his political career. I love Cindy Ray Hale's writing style and the way she is able to draw me right into a story written with wonderful characters, and supply me a wonderful escape.
This story hit the sweet spot in heartwarming factors and length--it wasn't too long, but long enough to deliver a favorable tale that engaged my heart and left me feeling satisfied.
Content: mild romance
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
I didn't read this whole anthology, but I read the short story Shot on Goal by Kayla Tirrell. Short stories can be a hit or miss for me, but this one was so cute. Our main characters are Cardosa (a Storm soccer player) and Heather (a reporter). When Heather is supposed to interview the team, things don't go quite to plan. Heather and Cardosa have the cutest meet-cute. Shot on Goal made me care for these characters. I laughed, wanted to hug them and this story left a big smile on my face. Even though I would've loved more of these two, the ending was satisfying!
I'll stick to my usual system and rate this by the rating of my favorite stories. If I was going to rate the collection as a whole, though, I would give it closer to a 2.5. There were several stories I enjoyed, but too many that I had to DNF, including some that didn't fit what I consider "sweet romance". I'm glad to have read some of them but would have preferred to have skipped others.
What I Don't Like About You by Laura Burton - DNF
Too physical/sensual for my taste, with a lot of talk about "making out," and the moment both of them can't seem to get out of their minds was a direct result of the heroine accidentally drinking alcohol. Also not a fan of them being stuck in the basement alone together all night as a result of a "truth or dare" prank. Not sure where the rest of the night went, but I didn't want to stick around and find out.
Love on the Run by Lorana Hoopes- 3.5 stars
I really liked the way everyone reached out to Ginny to protect her and help her get back on her feet. Although there were obvious issues with the way she'd been living, it was never presented as a positive thing, and I appreciated that Graham's focus was more on introducing her to God than starting a relationship with her for himself.
Content--mentions of living with a controlling/abusive boyfriend; mentions of revealing clothing; mentions of abusive alcoholic fathers
Discovered by You by Jessie Cal - DNF
Yeah, nope. I was interested to see where this one was going until they started kissing, lost "the willpower to stop," and then woke up next to each other. I don't care if it wasn't narrated; that's not what I expect from a "sweet romance" story.
Stuck with Mr. Right by Ellie Hall - 3 stars
I liked the relationship between Cora and Jesse and the fact that the mutual dislike when they met in person didn't last as long as it could have. Also liked the way the job situation resolved. The only downside was that their one kiss was a bit long and descriptive for my tastes.
Content--kissing (somewhat descriptive)
Alone Together by Nikki Larson - 2.5 stars
I don't know, that just seemed--really fast. I get it, life and death situations, but I would have liked to see evidence of something more than the incredibly fast enemies to lovers transition. Also, the prayer felt kind of thrown in, and I wasn't really sure what to think of it.
Content--kissing; a few uses of "heck"
Shot on Goal by Kayla Tirrell - 3.5 stars
Short but fun, and I liked the characters' personalities. I also enjoyed the sports angle. :)
Content--kissing; one comment about "making out"
Her Senator's Second Chance by Cindy Ray Hale - 2.5 stars
I liked the characters, though I wasn't a huge fan of his sister's plot to make them talk. What I didn't like was them having to sleep next to each other on the floor (even though nothing happened) and then referencing it later with "I loved waking up next to you." Odd situation or not, that came really close to the line for me.
Content--kissing (not descriptive); mentions of divorce; mentions of noticing people's bodies
Love in Quarantine by Suzanne Ash - 4 stars
I know people are split on whether authors should be writing about--certain current events--but I've honestly enjoyed the few stories I've read that deal directly with quarantine. (Although being almost a year in gave a bit of an eyebrow raise to the one-year-on epilogue.) But along with the relevance, both of the characters were adorably sweet, and I loved the natural way their unusual romance progressed.
Content--a few kisses (not descriptive); mentions of yoga; mentions of drinking
Love in the Alps by Poppy Pennington Smith - 4 stars
Fell in love with both of these characters almost from the word go. And the story was really sweet. <3
Content--kissing (not descriptive)
Pita My Heart by Gigi Blume - DNF
Aaargh, I was enjoying this one quite a bit, especially the fun voice, but the innuendo was getting to be a bit much, and when they finally started kissing, it ratcheted over the line for me. :S
One Last Chance by Christina Butram - 3 stars
The characters were sweet, but everything seemed to move really fast. And everything Caelyn had apparently been thinking all along didn't seem to match her thoughts at the beginning of the story? I don't know, some things just felt a little convenient for me.
Content--kissing
A Doctor Second Chance for the Rancher by Dobi Daniels - DNF
DNF for profanity in chapter 9
Can't Escape My Love by Nadine Millard - DNF
Yeah, I'm not sticking around to find out if "giving him something to remember you by" is what I think it is, especially when it's being compared to "mating season on the farm." Nope, not going there.
Funny Thing About Growing Up with You by Rimmy London - 4 stars
About halfway through this story, I wasn't sure how the author was going to get me past thinking the guy was a complete jerk no matter what happened, but...she managed it. :) I enjoyed this one a lot.
Content--one kiss (not descriptive)
Their Delayed Connection by Kari Shuey - 3 stars
I liked both the hero and heroine, but they annoyed me a bit with how long it took them to stop sniping at each other and be honest. :P
Content--kissing; mentions of cursing
Cowboys and Thunderstorms by Jacqueline Winters - 3.5 stars
I liked the sweet hero and the spunky heroine and the way their story played out. Also liked the reason her grandpa was hesitant to hand over the ranch, although he obviously should have talked to her about it.
Content--kissing
Boston Thawing by Laynie Bynum and M. Dalto - DNF
DNF for profanity in the first chapter
Remember Us by Ginny Sterling - 3 stars
I liked the characters, but it seemed like everything was over really fast. And the kinds of lies that had been told to break them apart were pretty nasty, even if they were lies.
Content--kissing; some mild language; mentions of lies that a girlfriend/boyfriend had children with someone else; mention of a woman's period
Swept Away by River Ford - 3 stars
Sweet story, although the romance moved really fast. I did like the glimpses of Steven as a writer and the way they opened up and were honest with each other. Wasn't a fan of all the kissing or the focus on his reaction to her in either his clothes or her too-tight ones (she had gotten soaked in a storm).
Content--kissing (somewhat descriptive); mentions of noticing a woman's body
For Never and Always by Hillary Ann Sperry - 2 stars
Would have liked this a lot more except for Lizzy mentioning near the end that she was getting ready to move in with her boyfriend, which is not okay. I really loved Noah, and the way they managed to get stuck together was definitely creative.
Content--some minor language (crap, dang, etc.); mentions of preparing to move in with a boyfriend;
Avery's Magical Playlist by Molly Zenk - Not read because of personal convictions on magic
You Were Always the One by Anna Johnson - 2 stars
Had a hard time getting past the grammar and punctuation issues in this one. And there were a couple of times that things seemed to move really fast. I think I could have really liked the characters if I'd been able to get to know them a little better, though.
Content--some minor language (sucks, crap, heck, etc.)
Chance in a Million by Milla Holt - 3.5 stars
A sweet story of letting go of past hurts and being willing to open up again. I liked the twist that the history wasn't between the guy and girl but instead involving his mother/her mentor. Also liked the fact that the characters went to God regularly with their problems. :)
Content--mentions of a controlling husband creating problems between a mother and son
Nadine is one of my go to historical fiction authors. This one, Can’t Escape My Love, being a contemporary I wondered how it would live up. Only difference is the time period. Same great writing and banter between characters. You could definitely see the connection between Zoe and Beck. Novellas are great afternoon reads, but I would have loved more to this. Way to go Nadine! Happy reader here!
**Her Senator's Second Chance by Cindy Ray Hale** I enjoyed reading this book. It's a sweet & moving second chance romance. Adam & Natasha, were high school sweethearts. Everything changed on their Prom night. Adam, is out on the campaign trail for his re-election. His next stop is his hometown. But the last person he ever expected to see is, Natasha. * This book is part if the Love Under Lockdown collection of stories *
This review is for CAN'T ESCAPE MY LOVE by Nadine Millard. Nadine is one of my go-to authors for historical romance, so reading a contemporary romance by her was so much fun!! This was such a cute novella. I loved the backstory. Zoe was relatable and Beck was... hot. It was a perfect hammock read this afternoon. And I'm excited to read Beth and Josh's story in the Fall.
Chance In A Million by Milla Holt Beautiful story of relationships fixed and love found and rekindled. Rick, Amanda and Gloria's story is one of love and second chances at love and family. Beautiful reconciliation story. Milla Holt never disappoints.
I recieved a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
So far from this anthology I’ve read Shot on Goal by Kayla Tirrell.
Shot on Goal is a short story that takes place in the Love in the Arena world which I already love. It’s an insta-love story between Cardosa, a Storm soccer player, and Heather, a sports reporter on her first assignment. I really enjoyed the meet-cute between Heather and Cardosa and their instant bond.
This is a review for "A Doctor Second Chance with the Rancher" by Dobi Daniels. This story was short but so sweet. Fell in love with the characters and I love second chances. Such a sweet clean read and can't wait to read more from the author.
I read the story “Shot on Goal” and this is my review for it.
Kayla has killed it with this short story! 2 strangers stuck in a room together, what could go wrong?!
In this story she included all the necessary things that needed to exist - background stories for the main characters, drama, sweet romance. Honestly, she did such a great job with this sweet story. It was fun and light. Loved it!
If you haven’t read other stories by Kayla and this is your first, be sure to check out her other sweet, fun romances: Disastrous Dates, The Wedding Games, and Penalty Box (Love in the Arena, #1).
So far I've read One Last Chance by Christina Butrum. I just love her sweet romance stories. This story of Caelyn and Dawson is so heartwarming. She was able to put this story into a quick read, yet left nothing out. You know all that happened and love it. Sure hope there is a continuance of this story of Caelyn and Dawson about their lives and love and where it can go. I think it would make a great series.
This review is for several books in this anthology.
“A Doctor Second Chance for the Rancher” by Dobi Daniels 4 stars Peter and Maggie meet after a lot of years passed since they see each other last. Things have changed a lot for them, however, that love they felt for each other once is still there. A second chance on love they are not going to let it pass. A sweet clean and well-written story you will enjoy.
“What I Don’t Like About You” by Laura Burton 4 stars Debbie and Mark are locked together in a basement. They need to talk about their feelings and that is a great opportunity to do so. Short, well-written and fun to read.
“Swept Away” by River Ford 3.5 stars Due to a flash flood storm, Rosie has to go up in the mountain to reach Steve, one of her clients and warn him. However, she got trapped with him because of a landslide. An insta-love, fun to read story with no virus.
For Never & Always by Hillary Ann Sperry 3 stars Lizzie is reticent to make her relationship with Luke more serious. If he is the perfect one for her, why is she still having doubts? Could it be because her heart is full of love for another person even if she doesn’t want to acknowledge that feeling? Noah has always loved Lizzie even though they have been separated for years. He has been busy building a company for her. The book is ok, but I would have liked to see Lizzie’s reaction to Noah’s news. I received a copy of these books and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
ONE PHENOMENAL COLLECTION!!! Spectacular! This impressively talented and imaginative group of Authors flat brought it with this thrilling bundle, rocking this baby to the core, kicking ass and taking names, wrapping this little gem up sleek, shiny and tight. Each individual story is excellent with separate plots, goals and destinations, each and every one different and unique with all the searing heat and alphalicousness you can handle. Crossing the lines and shattering boundaries, limitations are amplified and negotiated, riding the current and breaking waves, booting this jewel into overdrive, slamming it into a frenzy with astonishing results. Twixt, twined and tightly woven, displaying the rocketing ups and agonizing downs, grounding in it's simplicity and awe inspiring in it's depth, putting our characters through their paces. The raw magnetism, undeniable attraction and sizzling chemistry collides with such intensity, drawing you deeper until you feel the electrifying hum running rampant through your veins. The characters are authentic and realistic with depth and qualities that transform into outstanding personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storylines explodes. Remarkable job guys, thanks for sharing this awesome little bundle with us.
The Gold Digger - Billionaires of Silicon Forest Prequel By Melissa McClone
In the middle of a torrential rainfall, Adam Zeile and his friend Henry Davenport were heading out to look at a property. According to Henry the other interested buyers wouldn't come out in the storm so it was Adam's best change to purchase the property if it meets his specifications. One particular photo had caught his eye and if the view was the same he would buy it.
Unfortunately Henry had a meeting to attend so he left Adam at the property with the promise take a look at it when he got back. Adam was hopeful this would be the perfect property and even though the agent Cambria Baker was honest about the condition of the cabin he only needed to see the view. Once he had it was off, this was not the place for him.
While he was waiting for Henry to return, Cambria cleaned up the snack she had prepared and changed into clothing more appropriate for the weather.
Lots of mud, damage to the cabin and no way to get out until either the weather or the road is cleared.
Sparks begin to fly between them even as Cambria's world starts falling apart more than it already had.
A wonderful romance that is fun and playful in difficult circumstances.
I will be reading more of this anthology, all but Melissa are new to me authors.
Not your Covid-19 lockdown! I really enjoyed the two stories that I have read: ‘What I Don’t Like About You’ and ‘Stuck With Mr. Right’.
What I Don’t Like About You: This short story by Laura Burton is a clean New Adult romance with some of the fun of YA. This story was Laura Burton at her finest, and a prequel to a series about a group of friends who have weathered life through high school and college together. Now, as they face the challenges of adulthood they have to decide what it is they really want and need out of life.
Stuck With Mr. Right: Computer nerd meets Tarzan and Jane in this story of boy makes good and finds girl with the personality of home. Ellie Hall captures the hidden persona of the little boy inside who looks to escapism and the balm he finds in a woman who embodies home, the home he never had. Sweet and humorous with delightfully cheesy references to the Rainforest Café. I received the 2/25 stories reviewed here as ARCs and I am leaving a voluntary review.
I haven't read all of the stories in this book, only Stuck With Mr Right. This is a good, sweet, clean romance. It’s not my normal read. I tend to gravitate to hot and steamy romance books. This is a good story and a nice short read. The story was entertaining, and the characters were likable.
Cora and Jesse work for competing tech firms that are merging. Both are feeling unsatisfied with their job and both of them are chatting with a person online that they really like and are thinking about meeting. Both Cora and Jesse have bad relationships in their past that have hurt them.
Cora finds out she has to go on a company survival retreat in the Amazon. Seriously who is crazy enough to have computer nerds go to the Amazon jungle for a survival retreat. Cora meets Jesse and they don’t hit it off. They’re both rude to each other. What happens when they have to rely on each other to survive.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Swept Away by River Ford Enjoyed this short romance with Rosie and Steven. When she goes to the cabin to warn him that the bridge my washout with the storms they end up getting to know each other. Could this turn into more than friendship between them?
Their Delayed Connection by Kari Shuey Maddie and Russell once worked together at the same company until the promotion that she wanted was given to him so she leaves never telling him goodbye. When she has to consult with his company she did not expect to be working with him. When they get stuck on a train they both admit they have feelings for each other but she knows he is a playboy and thinks he could never be serious about her. She is surprised when he shows up at her job as a new employee.
This is varied collection of short story romances about couples caught it intense situations. There are mudslides, tornadoes, earthquakes, blizzards, thunderstorms, a landslide, bomb threats, hiding from bad people, lost in the Amazon jungle, locked in room or building together, COVID quarantine, and more. Some of the stories made me laugh and smile and the guys were pretty swoony. Others were a little over the top, the romance happened way too fast, were too dark, or made me shake my head. Most were sweet and others not so much. Some of them were first time loves and others second chances. Most were young adults, but there were a few older couple romances too. All of the stories have a happy ending, which I love, some happy for now and others HEA.
My review if for "What I Don't Like About You" by Laura Burton. It's a fun, clean romantic story that sets the stage for the Truth or Dare series. I enjoyed reading the journey of Mark and Debbie. Even though this is a short story, Laura presents vivid scenes that drew me instantly, making it engaging and fast-paced. The integration of past events which is the foundation for Mark and Debbie's story is well done. In a matter of a few hours, the dynamic between the protagonists change; and the dialogues are full of sassiness, playfulness and a lot of heart. I have not read any other stories from this boxset and cannot comment on the other stories.
I received an ARC from Laura Burton, and this review is left voluntarily.
I enjoyed this short and sweet story, “The Funny Thing about Growing up with You,” about childhood friends who meet again by chance as adults. I liked Annie, but was unable to get a good read on McKay until the end of the book. Perhaps this was intentional by the author, to add some suspense to the story. It certainly kept me reading, wanting to find out why McKay seemed “all in” with Annie one day and MIA the next. Overall, it was a fun story, and I loved the ending. After all, who doesn’t love seeing characters that you become invested in find their happy ever after? Ms. London is a new favorite author of mine, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked the story. Though it was short, the author made it interesting and enjoyable. The characters weren’t fully developed due to the length but they were engaging. A good story.
Stuck with Mr Right by Ellie Hall
I enjoyed reading this story with its interesting plot and humorous dialogue. The author made me laugh at their interactions. I loved the revelation of their discovery. A wonderfully crafted story.
Swept Away by River Ford
An enjoyable short story that was a quick read. I loved the characters, the storyline and how the author crafted the story. The action starts off immediately and I was swept away for a sweet love story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Adam is standing as a senator for the second time, his advisors think he should have a wife, so he's engaged to an appropriate woman. Then he has an event in his hometown, his sister arranges the venue at a place that his ex owns. He's not expecting that and hasn't managed to get her from his mind, wondering why she broke up with him straight after prom, when he thought it was all going so well. Natasha has never got over Adam, and is too busy now to have any social life. Jenny, Adam's assistant and sister, decides something needs to be done and shuts them in a pantry together to sort their differences out.
I haven't read this whole set, but I did read "Can't Escape My Love" by Nadine Millard. This novella was a super-quick read about two twenty-somethings who fell in love during their late teens and never spoke again due to a misunderstanding after the girl returned home at the end of the summer - a misunderstanding which apparently also kept her from returning to visit her grandparents and best friend for ten years. The story was cute, but my one complaint is that I found the heroine extremely childish.
I received a free copy of this novella from the author. My review is voluntary and only reflects this one story, not the whole box set.
I really liked this story (Love on the Run by Lorana Hoopes), just wish there was more of it. That being said, this was a good read with developed characters. Ginny was running from an abusive relationship and went as far as the money she had would take her which just happened to be Fire Beach, IL. When she landed in Fire Beach she came to know the wonderful people we've seen in previous books in this series. This was a nice addition to the Men of Fire Beach Series.
I received a free ARC from the author and have voluntarily left this review.
A few duds, but overall most of the books were well-written and enjoyable. A couple stories could have used some major editing; the rest were great. I was impressed with how creative the authors were in coming up with ways to strand their characters together, with few overlaps. This has romance for everyone with enemies-to-lovers, long crushes, billionaires, love-at-first-sight and even magic. I've added a few more authors to my TBR pile and pre-ordered the next collection.
I read Discovered by You by Jessie Cal. This was a quick read and a sweet story. A little bit of action adventure at the conclusion.
*i received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I also read "Love in the Alps" by Poppy Pennington Smith. This was a cute and quick read with adorable, well-developed characters and an interesting story line. I love books by this author and definitely recommend this one. This book is a clean romance with a great plot and likable characters.
*I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review
I haven’t yet read all the books in this collection but if Love On The Run is an example, I’m all in. Love On The Run: This is a short story full of feeling. I was excited to find out Graham was getting his own HEA. He’s a sweetheart and he and Ginny are a perfect match. Lorana has packed a lot into one short book perfect for a quick romance fix. I was given an ARC of the one story, and this is an honest review. I’m looking forward to what the other authors offer.
