She had not expected it to hurt so much.
The door closing behind her felt so final, pushed by her own hands, blocking away the first person she had ever really loved.
She needed to get moving. All of this was for nothing if she stayed against the Wall, weeping quietly, waiting for something to mend that she doubted would ever fully heal.
She brushed at her eyes, pushing angrily at the feelings that threatened to overwhelm her, regardless of her actions. She had allowed herself to grow attached, and she must pay the consequence.
She would not need a heart for long in any case, so it was just as well that it stay with Grim.

The Journey had ended, but her task had not. Not yet.
Her Guardian was gone.
People needed her. Grimult needed her. Even if he did not know why.
And she would not fail him.
So she would carry on alone.

"You got a name?" the man posed, and her eyes flickered to him in surprise.
She steeled herself, pulling on a mantle she had long since thrown aside.
"No," she answered firmly. "I am the Lightkeep."

I am an American by birth and situation, whose heart forever remains in Great Britain. I derive much inspiration from my holidays abroad, and my writing is heavily influenced by the delights of the English and Scottish countryside. My author's journey began in several reimaginings of The Phantom of the Opera where I explore happier endings for our beloved Erik-- hopefully aided by my degrees in psychology. I have a love for fantasy and paranormal romance, as well as the pleasure of a thrilling murder mystery... each of which have begun to creep into my writerly pursuits. When I am not consumed with a novel, I enjoy lavishing affection on my two cats, and working in historical costume design.

What the hell?
I love the story and the two main characters, but around chapter 14 the book turned into a tv show that’s been canceled before the writers were finished and now need to rush to wrap the story. The last 2 chapters felt as rushed as the last season of Game of Thrones, give me a break! One minute it’s about to rain hellfire, and become total war, then all of a sudden everything is a-okay. The build up to the conflict from the first book to the second book ends in nothing, with no explanation why, other than because the writer wanted it that way. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate the ending, I actually kinda like it, but I still feel let down by how rushed it was.

Enjoyable series

I enjoyed the characters and the story. The plot made sense mostly and there were few grammatical errors. The second book of the series however had several areas that were poorly written and was very repetitious. How many times do we need the same sediments repeated? I ended up skipping through some parts just to finish it., But over all was enjoyable.

Grim and Penryns love was so pure and sweet. This book was such a satisfying finish. The sages and their decisions will forever confuse me but Pen and Grim will forever be on my top list of book couples.
