Richard L. Haight is an instructor of meditation, healing and martial arts, and he is the author of The Unbound Soul: A Spiritual Memoir for Personal Transformation and Enlightenment. He began his path of awakening at age eight when he made a solemn promise in a vision to dedicate his life to enlightenment and to share what he found with the world. He took his first steps towards that promise at age 12 when he began formal martial arts training.
At the age of 24, Richard moved to Japan to advance his training with masters of the sword, staff and jujutsu. During his 15 years living in Japan, Richard was awarded masters licenses in four samurai arts as well as a traditional healing art called Sotai-ho.

I was practicing meditation regularly prior to Covid 19. When the pandemic broke out, I realized that I was only a beginner, for I found myself in a state of shock. Fortunately, at that time, Richard Haight, the author of Unshakable Awareness and founder of the Total Embodiment Meditation (TEM), offered an online course to teach us how to meditate under intense pressure. That course was called Awareness in the Heart of Chaos , and it is the inspiration for the magnificent book Unshakable Awareness . Although the course is no longer open to the general public, the book Unshakable Awareness teaches the same fundamental information. My experiences with the course and the book have been both challenging and fun. One of the challenges the author presents is how to take cold showers while making primary sounds which put one into a state of meditation. After practicing for a while, I felt my body moving on its own, which seemed really strange to me at first. Later I felt my nerves were calmer than ever before, which I really enjoyed. I felt that a certain mind-body connection was forming. With practice, I learned to recognize how emotions feel in the body. With that new awareness, old, stuck emotions began rising to the surface of my mind to be released. Through the exercises, I also learned how to stop the fight-or-flight response. Instead of panic, I learned how to feel my entire body, which keeps me calm and aware. I feel like I am less stuck in my head, and instead, more fully in my body. One of the basic teachings that that I learned is that a bad attitude can cost you your life. I've since learned how to handle hardship and pain more positively. When old, stuck patterns get in the way, referring to the book gradually helps to remove them. With practice, I have found, a new mode of being opens up that stills the mind and heals the body. Richard Haight's teachings and practices have lead to a playful confrontation with my inner demons. I can honestly say that my emotional blockages were removed by doing the exercises. It is such a relief to be out of the prison that the psyche created. Now I can say that the fear of rejection and punishment have vanished,and I have learned to have fun in the most fundamental way. I no longer have to depend on outside stimulation or distraction to get by. Instead, I have begun the journey within. Richard's teachings are born of Samurai ways, where one learns to overcome the fear of being cut in half by the sword. I feel Unshakable Awareness has cut my thinking in half, so that I can experience life more fully.
Finaly a book that explains how meditation actually work and how to implement in real life. Love the book and I love how all the exercises are listed again at the end so you wouldn't have to go through the book when practicing.
Unshakable awareness is a great read. The Total embodiment meditation thought in this book is very simple yet very effective and life transforming meditation technique. This meditation can be incorporated in daily life and you can do all the activities (Running, exercise, working, talking etc) in a meditative state. The vagal breathing and feeling primary sounds help me to relax instantly and deeply on stressful days (However, I practice them every day). The cold shower in the morning makes me instantly alert, calm and clear. Cold showers in the morning are a great start for your day and you can carry that energy all day long. The techniques in this book helped me to treat the challenges of everyday life as transformative opportunities for the brain to be more aware and calmer. You will be provided with a step by step workbook to measure the progress of your practice as well. I highly recommend this book as well as The Warriors mediation book to everyone and practice it everyday to embody awareness and eventually improve the quality of life
I have been living by the knowledge contained in this book (and the warriors meditation) for a couple of months now. I've read more spiritual/self help books than I care to admit, but I have been putting Richard's teachings into practise and have found this utterly life changing.
The daily meditations paired with the cold showers. Abstinence from gratifying behavioural patterns and daily exercise has made me far more confident and grounded person.
Shocking the body each morning with the showers has taught me so much about myself and the voice in my head. This small victory first thing every morning (which I've come to enjoy now) has enriched my life in ways I never thought possible.

I have had a chance to work with Richard personally and can tell you he is the genuine article. I have been doing some of the practices in this book since April. My life has been impacted so positively in so many ways by the combination of Richard’s Total Embodiment Method and the practices in this book.
I have a difficult time imagining anyone putting into practice the methods in this book and not seeing marked improvements in their day to day life.
The ideas in this book really resonated with me. They seem like an extension of yoga, yet emphasis on certain aspects makes it very different. They really made a difference with me.I have incorporated several aspects of it in my daily routine. Vegas nerve going, primary sounds chant , and cold water shower were easy. Still lot more to go.
This was a great book to read. I’ve already been practicing with surrounding myself with positive thoughts and good energy. I wanted to take it a step further and this book is what I needed to continue the path.
Quick read! Contains a lot of information on how to achieve a high level of awareness. There's also a step by step guide on each skill that's in the book. I recommend it to anyone interested in embracing the cold and seeking stoicism.
