A shocking murder very near to Claire makes it clear just how far her father will go to get what he wants. Stunned by the brutality of the cold-blooded murder of an innocent, Claire will need to use every skill she possesses if she’s going to find the killer before he sets his sights on the next person she loves. This book is a clean read: no graphic violence, sex or strong language Genre: light culinary cozy mystery, women amateur sleuth, cozy animal (dog)
I haven't read any of Susan Kiernan-Lewis' mysteries I didn't love. I've read all her series except for the Irish End Games and will get to them at some point. But in the meantime getting into the stories featuring Claire Baskerville has been a real treat.
Ménage a Murder, the 4th book in the American in Paris mystery series, was a spine tingling tale that found Claire in the middle of two murder investigations, caring for a young child, enjoying a visit from her daughter, and involved with the police detective investigating the murders. Claire finally met her biological father and is convinced he is somehow involved in the murders. I can't wait for the next installment of Claire's adventures in Paris!
Susan has outdone herself yet again! She always has so many viable suspects I can't figure out who has committed the murder. This one grabs you right from the start and it's very hard to put down until the very end. A job well done!
I've read this entire series and for me, it was the best. I'm not sure how I feel about the situation with the baby - I am also a 62-year-old woman and can't imagine having a baby full time! I have some of her other books, so will read those while waiting for book 5 in this series.
Maybe it's just me or that I didn't read the series in order but to me it was a confusing mess. Didn't make sense that Claire tried to blame everything on her bio father. And then so many of her own actions made no sense either. Not interested in trying more in the series
Life for Claire was not dull Finding a secret her husband had Change her life, and that of a friend A biological father, she didn’t know The depth he goes to for what he wants Investigating the murders The setting, the food in Paris Delightful series, good plot.
Who is killing Claire's frenemies? Is it someone related to her? When Claire's ward is kidnapped, it's time to take action.
As always in this series, the plot is like a skein of wool and unravelling it takes a lot of patience. They are so worth it in the end, though. I enjoy how each book builds on things that happened previously These stories cannot be read independently of the others, but the journey is rewarding; they are extremely rich.
I've only ever spent a weekend in Paris, but with Kiernan-Lewis' abundant descriptions, the city feels like a second home.
Much love for this series. This particular instalment is highly recommended.
I find it extremely hard to believe that a woman whose husband had cheated on her long term incl. having a child by the other woman, would HERSELF willingly become The Other Woman. She knows that carrying on with a married man is something to be hidden in public, but seems to not take his marital status seriously. Especially when we are told early on that he seems to have no interest in divorcing his wife.
And then she seems to think it's OK to stick her nose into a police investigation and even to interfere. If I were the girlfriend or wife of a police detective I would assume that my spouse could talk very little to me about what is going on. I certainly wouldn't think I had any right to information on any investigation.
I really enjoyed Ménage a Murder. It IS a page turning thriller. A good mystery which I didn’t figure out til more than three-quarters of the way through. I love how the author of this series ties up the loose ends at the end of the book but hate that she always leaves you with a cliffhanger so you want/need to read the next book in the series. Not nice.
I enjoyed the first few books of this Susan Kieran-Lewis series, but I felt that the mysteries in Ménage a Murder were convoluted and contrived. And the rattle snake in Robbie’s bed added absolutely nothing to the story. I’m honestly considering moving on from this series.
This is a book that is quite into its series and I suggest if you want to read you start in the beginning of the series because the author assumes LOTS of knowledge about what went before. It is also very repetitive keeping company with the protagonist’s thought which seeming swirl in her mind constantly with little new information. I finished but in hindsight wished I bowed oust at about 25% complete.
This is the 4th in the series. The main character is Claire . She is caught up wit a French Detective, Jean-marc. When people around her end up dying, she tries to help Jean-marc to figure out who is behind this. Sadly, she figures it out before he does and sadly not before someone else dies. Can she figure out how to stay out of jail ?
I didn't guess the ending until the end. Which means the author kept my attention until the very end. Although I'm sad with the "Goodbye," I'm still hopeful for a rekindling of the romance that is meant to be.
From the beginning, the initial murder was a roller coaster. As the story went on, I found I really wanted to finish and find out who done it! A very fun read!
It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I did it again sucked me in to the plot. I really like the protagonist in this series, even though most of the plots are far-fetched and sometimes ridiculous. But I think I’ll read #5 in the series!
I'd like to give this five stars, but the plot is a tad unbelievable. I love that there is an older protagonist, who is resourceful and intelligent. But, let's give her some mysteries that aren't so personal to her.
Spoiler alert! Each new book in this series gets better and better. Twists and turns and suspects. Claire has guts! Please get Jean Marc back in her life. So disappointed in this aspect!
This story kept my interest all the way through. I never could have guessed the ending until I got closer to it. Everything became clearer near the end. A good cozy mystery that kept my attention right up to the end.
The description of the book’s venue was enjoyable. The characters were complicated at first as there were numerous folks floating around. But in all, I am glad I took the time to read this book.
Ok so I only read 1 page, but the authour has painted a completely sadistic psychological killer so well in those few short words that I knew it wasn’t a book for me. Menacing mind games is not my thing, but it may be yours.
I love this mystery series set in present day Paris. I especially like that the main character is a smart American woman in her sixties. The whole done aspect is well and the little dog is adorable. A fast, fun read.
I was disappointed in the story lines in this book. Just too disjointed for me. I love the Maggie mysteries but this series doesn't quite make sense to me.
After reading other comments -its obvious to me -a lot will be lost unless you read the books in order of publication- This is a fun formulaic series -lots of flavour scenery wine food mystery
