Florida Coast, 1932. Edith Duffy intends to show her gloating enemies a woman can make it in a man’s world. Risen from the ashes of her embattled rum-running operation, her new saloon is thriving thanks to a smuggling partner in the Bahamas. But her success has enraged the conniving town preacher…

With the boy Edith’s affectionately taken on as a ward, her heart’s left vulnerable to deceit. And when a flock of busybody “child protectors” start squawking, the sinister pastor strikes a devastating blow.

Will Edith sacrifice her ambitious plans to protect those she’s come to love?

Storm Surge is the second book in the Rum Runners’ Chronicles, a gripping historical women’s fiction trilogy. If you like strong female characters, temperance-battling settings, and unlikely friendships, then you’ll relish Sherilyn Decter’s compelling tale.

Book Review: Storm Surge (Book 2) of The Rum Runners' Chronicles by author, Sherilyn Decter

She may be down, but she's not out. Edith Duffy is rising from the ashes...

The Florida Coast, 1932~

With a new blind-tiger by the name of Goodtimes under her belt, and the promise of new and exciting possibilities, more problems arise for Edith Duffy as the more than unstable town preacher is at her heels, along with a few particular mischief-makers who have no problem in making her life, and the ones she's closest to, even more complicated.

Edith is now pushed into closing down yet again, and The Marianne is left without a course on the waves of the sea to its place of heavenly bliss~ a rum runners' paradise.

Ms. Decter has taken this series with Book 2, to a profound place as the story continues to unfold with meaning and purpose. The author has woven a narrative to include an even deeper strength of its characters, their life experiences, and the yearning of family. A story that captures the heart, breaks it open, and puts it back together again in its own unique way...

Storm Surge has it all~ ambition, deceit, unlikely friendships and true heart. An emotionally satisfying read, and as luck would have it... continues with Book 3, Eye of the Storm!

I thank the author for my personal ARC copy, one I not only enjoyed, but one I highly recommend to anyone looking for the gratifying experience of a well-written series.

I'm really amazed with this Rum Runner series. This 2nd in the series was as good as the first. The characters are entwined around my heart. Edith, the strong willed female owner of an illicit liquor establishment and her growing family of helpers call out to me with each passing chapter. I can't say enough good things about this series. So, now on to the next and final book.
