When Former Army Pilot Beau Madigan witnesses a cat being attacked, all his protective instincts kick in and he has to intervene. For years, Beau has been a recluse. Left with a traumatic brain injury and blind in one eye after a training accident, he hid away to escape the pity, stares, and stupid questions. But that was before Colby. Graphic Novelist Colby Dyer has been on his own since his first shift. Believing he was cursed, his family cast him out once they discovered Colby’s alter-ego had black fur. Colby never imagined finding a mate, especially while cowering in cat form. To make matters worse, his cat accidentally claims their gorgeous rescuer. In Cat’s defense, it was Beau’s fault. Will Beau accept his fate once he learns what Colby is or will he abandon Colby like everyone else? Caught By The Belly Trap is a short steamy standalone MM shifter romance with a guaranteed HEA and absolutely no cliffhanger. Approx. 12K words.
If you love your happily ever afters with a side of sass and sexy times, you've come to the right place. My name is Kasey and I am a multi-genre romance author. I write under two pen names KASEY BELLE and K.A. BELLE.
As KASEY BELLE, I write heterosexual, menage, and LGBTQ+ romances (including paranormal, contemporary, military, and erotic).
As K.A. BELLE, I write exclusively gay male romance (including everything from contemporary to paranormal).
I created different names to help readers quickly find the stories that interest them without needing to search through genres that don't tickle their fancy. Regardless of your genre preferences, whether you choose Kasey or K.A., there is only one thing you need to know: My books are filled with soulmates, unconditional love, acceptance, family (both blood and chosen), humor, all the feels, and always end happily ever after.
Cat and er I've forgotten his human name but it was hardly relevant, make an interesting duo. Not sure what was intended with the details of his bannishment but it felt a clumsy comment on racism and I got the feeling the author changed her mind half way through, they started as religious fanatics, then they too were cats? Beau I thought his issues ran too deep to be solved so easily with a few pretty words.
It's a short insta-insta falling love hearts, cute story; just would have liked a little more to it.
3.5 Charming short story about a bratty cat shifter and a reclusive veteran. I enjoyed how Colby convinced Beau that he is it for him with his quick wit and sass but as so often with in the mating business it all was a bit too quick and insta especially because I would have loved to see more of the banter ... and I have to admit the idea that Colby and his cat had actual conversations in his head didn't disturb me at all but made me smile. Nicely done and I probably have to read a longer story of the author sometime.
4.5* I picked it up from Prolific Works called Caught by the Belly Trap. It's just a little short but it's about a cat shifter who was shunned from his family years ago because of his blue eyes and black body. He is being hassled by some young kids on Halloween when he is rescued by an ex military pilot who was badly injured and now has a stutter and is blind in one eye. Of course Colby knows he's his mate right away and follows him home. While petting his belly, Colby accidentally bites/mates with Beau and is forced to reveal what he is.
It was different that Colby and Cat, as he called his alter ego, were kind of like two brains in one. They would talk to each other while in either form. I didn't remember reading that, usually it's like a human brain in a cat, but this was both of them. I would have loved to read a more indepth version, more about Beau and about Colby's life before they met, but if you are looking for a cute little shifter read, I enjoyed it. I was also glad that somehow mating with a shifter didn't suddenly cure Beau of his brain injury as sometime unrealistically happens. Yeah, I know shifters are unrealistic but that's not the point. LOL Maybe they aren't. Maybe I just haven't had one reveal themselves... yet.
This is my first time reading this Author. What a pleasant surprise. This story was touching and sweet and I LOVED it. Beau is a wounded veteran, hurt in a training accident. Colby is a cat shifter. A domestic cat. Beau saves him in his cat form and Colby realised that Beau is his fated mate. Imagine Beau's surprise when he wakes up with a naked man in his bed. This is a beautiful story for sooo many reasons. I will be reading this Author in the future. Great premise, wonderful storyline, fabulous short story. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
First, this is my first time reading something written by K.A Belle. And second, this is my first time reading a cat shifter romance. I enjoyed both—the author and the story.
Beau was a wonderful character. He was nicely developed with a big heart but a load of tragedy. As for Colby, he also came with his share of baggage. Even though he faced isolation and loneliness, he had a lot of faith and never gave up. I really liked that about him. And I also enjoyed how he brought his faith and hope into Beau’s much-needed world.
The two personalities within the cat/shifter was a neat idea. I never saw this done before. The sex scenes were well written. And the plot was a nice fast pace. The dialogue was realistic and fun to read.
As for the title, this was clever, and very true to the story. It’s a light, fun read and doesn’t need to be read during Halloween. I’m glad I downloaded myself a copy at Prolific Works. Do yourself a favour and download a copy while the story is still available.
This was a good story but I felt it would have done a bit better with a long form rather than a short form of story. While the two have the connection of being mates and they clearly are attracted to each other, the big issues would take more time that just one conversation and the decision to mate to get beyond that. Beau has baggage from his accident, both physical and mental, believing himself to be undesirable for being with both in looks and because of his brain injuries. While this could be something that the two could work at, it seems unlikely that such headway would be made just from their first serious conversation. There is a hint that this is more of an ongoing process but it felt a bit too solved initially.
I thought it was ok; nothing great. It just didn’t feel complete. I liked Beau a lot. As Colby described him: “perfectly imperfect.” But yet, he was still a bit of a mystery. Then there’s Colby/Cat. The whole dual personality and always referring to himself with plural pronouns was mildly amusing at first but quickly became rather annoying. And her was even more of a mystery, He was thrown out by his family at thirteen but there is absolutely no discussion of where he went and how he survived to grow up and become anaccomplished author. The premise of this story was good but the finished product is not as good as it could have been.
This one suffered from what makes me wary of shifter and omegaverse romances (though this one isn't omega I don't think). And that's the substitution of "mate attraction" for chemistry or any real attraction. The cat shifter in this falls for his scarred and blinded military veteran hero instantly and there's no real conflict. I almost gave this one star, but settled with 1.5 rounded up because it was short and free.
Lots packed into this short story. Loved Cat and Colby's inner banter. Beau takes a bit of convincing that Colby's real and that claiming him is the best choice he could ever make. I liked that we get to see them a year down the road.
