A cold and arrogant criminal. A Billionaire’s Daughter. An arranged marriage.

Maria

Being the daughter of a billionaire you would think my life had always been easy.

But no, not for one second has my life ever been easy.

And now I’m being forced into a marriage with my father’s right-hand man, and if I refuse him I stand to lose my inheritance.

And while I find him extremely handsome, it’s the darkness that I sense in him that both frightens and calls to me.

Damien

My boss wants to give me his daughter.

Sounds simple, doesn’t it?

If only that were true.

His rivals have threatened her life and now he wants me to take her as my wife.

To love, honor, and protect her for the rest of my days.

I want her.

But how can I protect her from myself?

How can I honor her when the darkness inside me demands that I defile and break her?

Is this a good read? Yes it is. Is it dark? No, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I've not read a book by Vi Carter before but based on this I would read other works by her. I found this well written, engaging and read it pretty much in one sitting, so it definitely held my attention. I would describe this as a romantic suspense with elements of organised crime. In particular I liked that the heroine had entered the arrangement willingly and actually wanted to be married to the hero. This really gave a nice spin to the arranged/forced marriage trope.

Both main characters were likeable, Damien was actually a pretty honorable man, though his struggles with his desires did lead him to be a total idiot at times. Maria was a total spitfire, maybe a lotlittle petulant and immature at times, but I let that slide under the reason of her having been kept very sheltered her whole life.

There was definitely chemistry between Damien and Maria, with some scorching hot sex scenes to enjoy. I felt that generally it was more lust than love, though I certainly felt a very strong connection to Maria and her emotions quite a few times throughout the story. The book certainly made me feel!

Personally I felt the resolution was achieved a little too quickly. The ideas were great and it was well executed BUT I felt there were missed opportunities to add extra depth to the story. Nate felt like a loose end, his I would also have liked some more of Maria with her parents, some scenes of them getting to know one another.

Some parts of this were told rather than shown, yet most of the book didn't have that vibe so it did leave me disappointed that the author didn't add the same depth to those scene. The impression it gave was that the author had a word or page count and was paring those last few chapters down in order to achieve it. In fact this is an issue I've encountered with other authors and it does make me wonder if they write to "size" rather than "story". If that is the case then Dear Author, please note that most readers can cope with a book that takes longer than two hours to complete. I also dispute the 339 page count - it was not quite half that length!

If you enjoy well written, steamy, romantic suspense, with some good plot twists and likeable characters then I do recommend this.

First of all, What the actual shit was this book? I can't believe how it has such a good rating on Goodreads.

The hero is a fucking cheater! Sleeps with prostitutes after marriage. Why does none of the reviews mention it? There's no plot. This is just the cheap version of fifty shades of grey with no class. The story was dragged on and on.

What's ridiculous is that Maria's father made a deal with Damien that he has to marry Maria in order to protect her but he can't be intimate with Maria or any other woman while they're still married. Damien being the obedient dog agreed and despite wanting Maria, he won't touch her because he gave his word to her father. This part is quite understandable. But but...he goes to a sex club and sleeps with other women after his marriage with maria. So let me get this straight, he would happily comply not touching maria because he is a man with morals but he'll cheat on her despite her father's warnings. That makes complete sense, doesn't it?

Maria has a personality of a pencil. I thought there'd be more to her character than just a spoiled rich brat but there isn't anything interesting about her except that she has curves to die for and yes you guessed it, she's a virgin too.

I DNF this book because I just couldn't continue torturing myself anymore. I wished there'd be no cheating but AGHHHHHH. It completely wasted my time.

Annoyed...I want my time back!!!

I read the reviews for this book before purchasing, that raved at it being a great book...I beg to differ. If you are into a grown woman acting like a two year old, you will enjoy this book, otherwise, skip it. I made it to half way waiting for the story to move along, but all I got was a spoiled woman with the antics of a child and a man that is supposed to be feared who gives into her every whim because he is afraid of her father. I am sure the latter half of the book would have explained everything, but I did not wish to waste more time.

The last straw for me was when the wife decided to “get even” by throwing a party and a tantrum, flirt with every man she could at said party and make a scene in front of all the people he knows to announce she wants a divorce just because her pretend husband finally gave in and had sex with her but didn’t want to cuddle and sleep in the same bed as her, though they both have been sleeping in separate beds for the 4 weeks they’ve been married ???

No matter how the author described this man as someone to be feared, this man was weak to me, so when he gave in to her divorce antics, I was done and I could not read one more word.

Wow, this book took a twist I wasn't expecting! Damien and Maria have a marriage of convenience, each (hopefully) getting what they want out of it at the end. Damien is instructed to not have relations with Maria, but they have hot chemistry between them so that doesn't last. That's when everything unravels and the craziness is revealed. I did not see it going that way! Can't wait to read the next one, Vi!

This was a good read that had me intrigues from the beginning. We are first introduced to Maria who comes off as this stuck up obnoxious spoiled rich girl trying to pull a tantrum on her husband. Then as we read some more, we find out that her whole life has been laid out in front of her so she is in an arranged marriage to a guy that acts like he can’t stand her. Damien is this tough guy that agrees to marry Maria in exchange he gets help from her father to start up his security firm and he secretly is attracted to Maria but can’t do anything about it. Can these two fights their attraction to each other or will they doom themselves because they can’t resist each other? This read is full of twists, turns, and mysteries that I never saw coming and it kept glued in the whole time.

Vi Carter has done it again! Even though this book is the 2nd in the series, it can be read as a stand alone. Definitely a dark read but not as dark as some. If you like arranged marriages with an age gap, you will love this book!

First of all I have to say that I read the previous book Dark in this series and thought that was good but this has surpassed it by a county mile. Not only were the characters great but the story was quite exceptionally a page turner. I literally could not put it down and had to read well into the night. Maria had to marry a man who could not touch her sexually so you can imagine that didn't go down well with her. Damien had married Maria as a business transaction and if he did not obey the rules he would face certain death. Nevertheless, nature takes it's course and they start to have feelings for each other. Why has Maria had to be married and untouched ? Who is the woman with brown hair and green eyes? These questions will be answered and many more in this fascinating romance because this is what it is. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read Darkest the last book in this series.

I loved reading this book!! This is not your typical spoiled little rich girl marries her father’s right hand man story. This plot was unique with interesting characters. This story was full of angst and steamy interactions along with a touch of intrigue. I was captivated from the first page. Maria does act out at times but she simply desires the attention of her husband Damien. However, he is fighting his feelings for his new wife. Will she finally break down his walls? This was another great book by Vi Carter. She never fails to deliver a story with an intense plot and well developed characters. This is a definite must read.

4.5 stars! Damien ❤&❤ Maria: another good one!!!

Darker by Vi Carter is the second installment in The Boyne Club Series, can be read as a standalone and tells the story of Damien Callan, the man responsible for the security of The Boyne Club owned by Gerald (from Dark), working as well for the Andersons and Maria Anderson whom he's married to by a way of an arrangement that only Kane and King (Maria's father and brother) and himself are aware of. This tale seemed very predictable at first: the typical spoilled rich girl married off to her father's right hand and head of security, trying to get attention and reactions from a husband who doesn't even touch her, but to whom she's so attracted to. What she doesn't know is that nothing really is as it seems and that's where the real mystery begins, somewhat for both of them. I really liked their story, I liked their personalities, the banter, the jealousy, their interaction, the secondary characters and mostly the fact that Damien was so smitten with Maria and didn't even noticed. This is a well entwined story, original in its plot and extremelly perspicacious because it really makes sense and could very well be real.
I am becoming a big fan of Vi Carter and can't wait to see what she has in her mind for Dean in Darkest, because, let me tell you, I loved him so much even though we only had a spec!

Absolutely nothing like it. This book was incredible. I fell in love with these characters. Vi Carter brought these characters to life in a very vivid way. Damien is a character from the previous book, Dark, but Maria is a new character. Damien is suppose to protect Maria, but not lay a hand on her. Damien does his job well, until he does not.
This book contains some pretty hot scenes, but that is not all. There is lies, deception, and suspense as well.
I definitely mean it, when I say, I could not put this book down. The storyline had me turning the pages to find out what was next.

The second book of the series but reads as a standalone though you'll need to sit for this one!...
Another compelling, deep, dark & sensual book from this gifted author. I don't tell the story, but holy guacamole, not sure where she goes to in crafting these remarkable journeys she takes you on but Vi is pretty unique as she drags you in as she weaves her spell. When you've finished the book you need more, now!! I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

This book really gripped me from start to finish. Damien and Maria’s relationship is strained but there’s something between them. She doesn’t know that her father had an ulterior motive for her marrying him. Maria is a real Diva at times but this is intrinsic to the story. I absolutely loved this book, a few twists and turns and some truths are revealed at the end. Great read.

This was an excellent read. Book two of the series certainly didn’t disappoint.

This is a rollercoaster of secrets and lies.

An arranged marriage with a twist!! And what a twist this was.

Vi certainly has a way of writing these dark romance novels and keeping you captivated, she draws you in and then you just can’t put the book down.

This book was even better than Dark, and I really enjoyed that one!
There’s so many different layers to this story that rather than leave me feeling lost, really kept me on pins and needles the whole time!
Damien was a bit of a wild card at first. I didn’t know if he was cold or indifferent. Then as the story developed, he completely hooked me! I became endeared to Damien, especially after his past was revealed. But, it was when he started to realize his own feelings for Maria, that made me fall that much more for him!
Maria was really something else! Yes, she definitely comes off as spoiled and pampered at first, but she has some steel in her spine! I had to laugh at Maria’s quick assessment of Gerald, it was pretty spot on!
The chemistry between Maria and Damien was out of this world! The story was a bit dark, a little twisted, and a whole lot of amazing!
I can’t wait for Darkest!!!

Darker by Vi Carter. When I am looking for a dark and dirty romance, Vi Carter is one of my fav go-to authors. I always know whenever I open up a story of hers, I’m in for quite a treat. This one was exactly as I was hoping for. The chemistry between the main characters is perfect, their unusual relationship makes for a really good story. I found this story to be very enjoyable and steamy, a good mix of dark drama, sexy scenes, and strong characters. Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters are interesting. Maria is forced into an arranged marriage, she is still a virgin and is to stay a virgin which Maria does not know why her husband does not touch her. Damian was given the job of protecting Maria but also given a proposition to good to be true. It was funny, sade, secrets, lust, passion, hot and steamy with emotions that makes you want.

That was a nice dark read!!
A lot of it wasn't much of a surprise (in terms of good guy/bad guy), but the journey to the end was so good!
I didn't like Maria much to begin with as I found her loud and really obnoxious. But she grew on me after a bit. Damien, on the other hand, wow, just wow.
I must say that overall, my favorite couple of the whole book was Charlie and Rome!!

This is the second book in the series but it can be read as a stand-alone. Damien’s boss wants him to marry his daughter and keep her safe from his enemies. Who will keep her safe from Damien? This is a fast-paced intense read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. I loved the characters and their story drew me in from beginning to end. I loved it!

Darker is the second book in The Boyne Club series by Vi Carter. If you love to read books filled with intense drama, lots of trauma, suspense, twist and turns you have found a book that offers you all that. Damien and Maria are in an arranged marriage and their personalities are constantly clashing. This is a hot, steamy read that I couldn’t put down but all of Ms. Carter’s books are like that. I highly recommend this book. Each book in this series is about different couples so there are no cliffhangers.

The story is one that draws you in. It is a bit dark but beautifully written. Maria and Damien have chemistry that is felt. Maria was a bit demanding at times that makes it harder to connect with but you can also understand why she is doing it from the reaction of Damien. They both grow throughout the story and it adds a really nice element to it. Even though this is part of a series I feel that it can be read as a stand-alone. It is most definitely worth a must read.
