This collection features eight short stories, five novelettes (30-50 minute reads) and a couple of novellas, all linked by the central character, Sexy Lexie. Although reasonably contemporary, they are set in the UK in the Experimental 80's, when many patriarchal firms were dragging their heels about a woman's role in the workplace. When they got home, however, women were much more enlightened and willing to take on the freedom of the Swinging 60's and Psychedelic 70's. But if reading about Eighties England (with its vintage films, TV shows, music and technology) is not for you, other stories are available. Ditto if you are put off by raunchy scenes of sassy young women in proper pickles. Although generally light-hearted, these steamy, office-based shorts with a twist in the tail are not for the faint of heart. Or under-18s. Or people who don’t like their heroines in too much trouble. ***For mature audiences only***
Ro Green spent 23 years writing software, then 15 years teaching maths. She squanders most of her leisure time reading, writing and listening to music. Ro lives with her husband and three children in the middle of England. Half a century of people, countries and experiences are fighting inside her mind to get themselves down on paper. So many stories, so little time. Ro is a member of the World Wise Writers – a group of awesome scribes with huge hearts, wickedly witty lines and ginger cats.
This is a group of short stories featuring a novella in the middle and then continuing with short stories. I enjoyed the novella in between. I really didn’t like that in the beginning a short story would be mentioned or end in a cliff hanger and you could flip to the part after the novella to complete that short story then go back to continue, for me it was extremely irritating. I’d rather the complete short story or no mention of it until you get to that point otherwise it’s just confusing. If I had to review just the novella it would get a higher rating as Lexie is interesting. It was rather far fetched a lot of the time but some stories are, I prefer reading about characters that are easy to relate to. This wasn’t all bad, just not my preference. I didn’t enjoy the layout of the books, I didn’t like the messages from Lexie between the chapters either as it takes you off topic and draws you out of the book. Sometimes I found it hard to finish as I felt like it jumped from one extreme to another and in and out of stories which was very distracting and disappointing for me, I’d rather get lost in a book that pulls me in completely. I read this as an ARC.
This is a collection of three books, each of which is a collection of short stories.
These are erotic short stories, each with plenty of steam and only the minimal plot needed to carry the tune. But that does not detract from them, at least for me, as they were well written and easy to read with fun, if basic, characters. Perfect for a bit of light reading before bed. Overall, a highly enjoyable collection with plenty of steam.
Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems for review purposes.
What a fun compilation of naughty, night time reads!
A very interesting presentation that made me smile.
The only thing that bothered me, were the links to jump around the books. I didn't take the author up on those, but perhaps others did. I just thought they were distracting.
3+ stars, rounded to four.
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Bunch of short stories with same character. It seems to be one big run on sentence that didn't make sense in the beginning. A short Novella in the middle was good, but it went right back to making no sense.
received from Hidden Gems for my voluntary review.
