When a diner at Bella Vita nearly drops dead during dinner service, nobody believes it was an attempted murder. Kinsley has to go out on a limb to find the answers before the would-be killer strikes again.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Loved this story. Another great instalment of the series. 😊 Meri the cat is adorable. And funny. The up down relationship between Kinsley and Thorn adds tension to the investigations.
At the end of the last book, Thorn is making Kinsley a grilled cheese and then he asks her to marry him. His timing wasn't the best on this as Kinsley had to run to the bathroom because of her stomach.
When Kinsley returned, she sat on the couch until she felt better and then ate the sandwich, neither of them brought up the subject again and that's how it stands right now.
Viv then turns the conversation to the missing money that Liberty supposedly left somewhere around Coventry. Kinsley thinks people believe it's cursed so they are just forgetting about it, or someone found it and hasn't told anyone.
Viv has to intervene when Hollie a regular customer gets irate with her employee Jack for making her sandwich wrong. After that they broke up their coffee date only to see smoke coming from the apartment over Kinsley's shop. It seems the shop ghost is escalating and while there's no fire it was a heck of an illusion to get attention.
Thorn shows up and while he was gentle about it, berated her for taking such a chance with herself and the baby. He also tells her to dress nice for dinner cause he's taking her out.
They have a nice table at Bella Vita, but the peace was disturbed by a man and woman seated near them. Something about analyzing and fixing their marriage. The couple whose names are Paul and Rebecca continue to argue until their dinner arrives. This is only made worse when Hollie their waitress practically drops his dinner in front of him although she had placed his wife's dish perfectly. Paul complains the pasta is overcooked and practically has a tug of war with Hollie for the plate. She also calls him Paul, which sets off Rebecca again, and she leaves. Paul stays and Wylie Romano the owner brings his new plate of pasta to him, and he settles in to eat.
It's then that Thorn does his proposal the right way.
Their night ends with Kinsley saving the Paul's life and meeting the new owner/reporter of the Coventry Gazette Dorian Black.
Meri is hysterical with his snark when he sees Kinsley's ring. Not enough to go into the shop with her though. Once in the shop she can't help but think about Cody Black, the man who died in the apartment and who she believes is the ghost. She goes upstairs to check out the apartment and is interrupted by Dorian Black. Apparently, he's rented the apartment.
So now she has something to investigate, Cody's death and what happened to Paul. Reggie will be unable to help because Jeremy is finally coming home, and they are going to spend as much time as possible together before he goes back to work.
She runs into Dorian when she's leaving the hospital and he entices her to tell him about Paul Fraser's condition in exchange for him telling her what he knows about his father, Cody Black.
There are plenty of twists and turns as Dorian keeps following her and Paul Fraser dies.
I am loving these books, they are short and satisfying reads, with humor, snark, intrigue and romance.
Kinsley has put herself right back in the middle of things! When Kinsley and Thorn are having dinner together at Bella Vita, someone said a man had died in the restroom! She runs immediately into the bathroom to see if she can help in case he really isn’t dead. But Paul Fraser is lying on the floor, and very obviously looked dead, his lips blue, and blood in the corner of his mouth. However, she moved her hands over him. All she needed was to find the tiniest spark of life in him and she could bring him back. And then she found it -- the light in his brain hadn’t gone out entirely yet and she used her power to light that light. Then a stranger rushed in, asking her questions. She told him she used CPR to bring him back. But the man was scribbling notes on a pad of paper! She asked about it and he said he was Dorian Black with the Coventry Gazette – except there is no newspaper with that name in town! Then Thorn came in and asked him to back up and give them room. What was that guy up to? Was he really a reporter?
When the paramedics arrived, Thorn was ready to leave, but Kinsley said he needed to call in the deputies and investigate! This had been an attempted murder! But Thorn didn’t think so, even with the blood on Paul’s mouth. He told her not everything is a murder! That meant only one thing -- Kinsley has to go out and find the answers herself before the killer strikes again and tries to finish the job! And another curious thing had her attention. Dorian Black is now moving into the apartment above her shop. And he happens to be the son of the man who died there. And that death may not have been suicide after all! Why is Dorian Black here?
Once again, this is such a fun series of cozy mysteries! The story line was good, suspenseful, and the characters are just what the reader would hope for. Grab your copy and see what’s going on! Is there a killer on the loose? Is Dorian Black involved somehow?
Another good story but again questions left, why did Azrial just disappear? Why did friends and parents do a 180? The were all team Azriel, Thorn is not treating you right, now they're all team Thorn no hesitation. Who after a long and painful divorce falls in love almost immediately, finds an irresistible connection with a second man, wants whoever she's with at the moment, has the first guy "want to explore " another relationship, jumps into marriage with guy number two with friends and all family all supporting it, for one day, gets pregnant in one day, then guy number two tries to kill her - really? Disappears and guy number one is right back in the picture, madly in love, proposed and she's pregnant planning wedding number two, with friends and family again all gung hoe, too too fast, way too fast.
Thorn plans a romantic dinner at Coventry 's upscale restaurant, Bella Vita. When the couple at the next table get into an argument, it would seem Thorn & Kinsley's dinner is ruined. But when the wife storms off & her husband eats his meal in peace maybe all is well. At least until the husband, Paul, goes to the gents. After visiting the Ladies room, Kinsley spies Paul collapsed on the floor. While yelling for help she uses magic to start healing him. Thorn thinks it's a heart attack, Kinsley thinks it's attempted murder. When the doctors find nothing wrong but Paul dies anyway, Kinsley proves right. However can she prove how & why?
Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. Kinsley skiing bore is a witch in the town of Coventry. Her family is one of two of the founding families of the town. She is the last of one of the family lines and her father comes from a large family of skeenbore witches. Follow along as her and her family and friends solve murders mysteries and other trouble in their small town. The veil of magic keeps the humans from noticing the magic. Even though there are many witches who live there. You’ll also get a kick out of her kitten familiar. Check it out
Kinsley and Thorne are eating out when a guy is found apparently dead in the restroom. She's able to save him but now it's known that there's a killer on the loose. There's a woman playing around on her husband, an incredibly annoying reporter that moves into a space above her store, a successful murder, an attempt on her life and a ghost.
It also seems that she and Thorne might very well decide to move their relationship to the 'married' category.
The stories in the series are all petty good, Meri the cat remains an interesting character but you do kind of wonder why anyone stays there with all these murders taking place.
Kinsley and Thorn are out for dinner when Kinsley hears that a man has died in the bathroom... Of course she has to go in and try to help.... This finds Kinsley in the thick of another mystery and being pregnant is not going to stop her from trying to find out the truth... Meanwhile there is a new resident above her shop and she doesn't know what to think about him... He is persistant and nosy... Another great cozy mystery from Sara Bourgeois... The stories are perfect for anyone who likes a cozy mystery
Another great Sara Bourgeois story. Love this series. This is the 5th book I have read in this series, and all of them have been wonderful. This story centers around Kinsley and Thorn and a mystery of a possible attempted murder. Kinsley is in the thick of things and can’t help becoming involved. Great series and book, highly recommend to all cozy mystery lovers. I purchased a copy through KU and am very glad I did.
Kinsley helps save someone while out with Thorne. But, did she actually save him? A reporter shows up, and even though at first he’s a pain, he ends up being a friend and helps her dig into things. Fun as always. Meri gives good comic relief with his usual dry humor. Thorne is just the perfect boyfriend. Kinsley, as usual, does exactly what she wants and that is why we love reading about her!
These books are way too short. There are no typos or grammatical errors in this one, though. I liked the story except right before the end of the book it just suddenly jumps to an epilogue of sorts and sums up the ending abruptly. It's a little disappointing, but the stories are interesting, so I'm moving forward. I hoped that after the chef was arrested for murder Dorian's husband would have got the chef's job at Bella Vito. Maybe that will happen in book 6.

Enjoying the series Ghosts, witches, werewolves, demons, voodoo practitioners, and hopefully more to come - all that your heart desires of things that go bump in the night are found in this series. A little murder, romance, pregnancies, weddings, and humor add to the satisfaction of a lovely story. Kinsley, Thorn, Meri, and many other characters, some quite nice and powerful and others on the dangerous side, give the characters interesting puzzles to solve. Very nice!
A Taste for Magic was filled with more than one mystery to be solved. I love books like that. Meri is sassy as ever and an adorable kitten on the cover. This series is another one that keeps the pages turning and my coming back for more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I just love these books. The characters are interesting, and I'm rooting for them all along the way. The plotting is wonderful, and the mysteries are solved in each book, but still leave you ready to snatch up the next adventure. PS, I want a cat like Meri..
A new character is added to the group. He is Dorian Black. Son of Kinsley's ghost at work. Kinsley solves the mystery of the death of a College professor. But everyone else was sure it was just a heart attack.but can lightning strike twice the same way and. Be not a coincidence? Pick up the book it's a good one day read!
This is a very interesting and entertaining series!
A wonderful story line that will carry through to the next book. Mari is a great character, but I wish he had more of a masculine name. Mari is to girlish for a bit kitty. This series will most definitely go in my favorite authors and series book!
Seriously, get over the grudges people. It’s bad for your health. Be nicer people, you never know the effect you will have on others. Two deaths and an attempted third over a grudge from mean words. But, Meri got his Maple Bacon and Kinsley gets her choice of wedding date. So alls well that ends well.
ARC Review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In Coventry Kinsley is pregnant and going to marry thorn and she is still up to investigating crimes .I love these story .
Love this series! Kinsley & Thorn finally picked a wedding date. Meri the kitten is still eating all the bacon he can get his paws on. Finally figured out who the ghost in the shoppe is and that gives Kinsley a murder to solve.
The twists and turns are great. The stories are fun and entertaining. Can't wait to see what happens in the next one. Wondering what happened at Azriel??? Can't wait to meet Peanut.
Each one of these book keeps getting better. Characters interesting and likable. Plot exciting, flowed well and was well thought out. Looking forward to the next episode. Satisfying conclusion.
Following Kinsley, her black kitten familiar and her entourage as they solve murders, capture evil books, and counter the evils that struggle to get into Coventry is a hoot.
A good clean read. Have enjoyed the series so far. Like the characters. Now that Kinsley knows who the ghost is that is haunting her store maybe with the help of the ghosts son she will be able to help him cross.
A great book! I’m really enjoying this whole series, I will be sad when I’ve read them all! Luckily there are more to be released soon. My fave author this year! Thank you for a great read!
Running the shop is fun to do BUT!! Murders must be solved! A witches life always seems busy! Murders can't be allowed to give Coventry a bad reputation! Lovely series!
The story continues, and carries over to the next book. Questions are answered, issues are resolved, and a wedding date is set! It may be a very late night tonight here!
This story is so great. I am flying through these stories. That is truly how good that they are. I really love the town, characters, and all the action. Kinsley sure does get into a lot of cases. She really should just become an investigator.
I am enjoying this very much. I like the character line up. A little murder mystery mixed with humor and romance. These books cover it all. Anyone interested in fantasy fiction witchy magic with a twist will enjoy this series.
I enjoyed this one particularly since I was shocked at who was revealed as a murderer! The addition of a new character was great too. Can't wait to see what happens next!
