Not everything in Coventry is as it appears to be. When you look in the mirror, what is looking back at you?
Kinsley is taking her first crack at a cold case. She wants nothing more than to help Dorian figure out what happened to his father, but she’s got issues of her own.
Big time issues.
Not only is there a dark entity stalking her reflection, but things with Thorn aren’t all sunshine and roses either.
Can she solve the murder and prepare for her upcoming nuptials? Are the people in her life who they appear to be? Or is she about to fall into a killer’s deadly snare? Mirror Magic is book six in the Familiar Kitten Mysteries cozy mystery series. You'll find no swearing, gore, or adult situations, but you will find magic, mystery, and a hint of lighthearted mayhem.
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
So, I skipped books 4 and 5, but I don't really feel like I missed a lot. The characters haven't changed. At one point the main character says to herself that her actions were nonsensical, she was talking about eating something after a scary moment, but I feel like it represents this book. The conflict is solved too easily and nothing seems to make an impact on the characters. Still, some parts are fun and it's an ok read.
Trouble in paradise again. Sigh. Thorn is being wishy washy again. Shadowy figures are stalking Kinsley. Maybe one, maybe more than one. Feels like everyone was angry in this book. Except Meri. He was just Meri still :D I really wish I had a Meri lol. But werewolves and curses and hidden secrets were what this book was about, aside from the issues with Kinsley and Thorn. Dorian has a secret – not just about his father. It was a very good read. I’m sad that we didn’t get more Reggie and Viv this book, but we did get to meet Isaac and we get to see Annika and Gunner again also. I really can’t wait until the next book.
Kinsley is seeing something behind her in the mirror, or anytime she sees her reflection. It's strange because the house is warded, and Meri doesn't see it. She's also having some pretty crazy mood swings but those could be because of her pregnancy.
She's been helping Dorian with his investigation of his father's death and on this particular day they hiked out to an area on the map that was in the file Thorn gave him. They used supplies from her emergency kit, since they didn't think of it before they left town. That site didn't give them any information so the next stop was Annika and Gunner. This was the last case Gunner worked on before he and Annika moved out of Coventry. Gunner wasn't happy but he did talk to them.
When Thorn mentions he needs to replenish the water in the emergency kit, Kinsley goes on the defensive, and things escalate from there. These two really have to work on communication skills, especially when Thorn keeps walking away instead of defusing the situation.
Lilith convinces her to hire Ursula to work the shop with Reggie so she can rest more, and she also has a dress that Kinsley might like for her wedding. It's when Lilith takes a picture of her that someone finally sees what Kinsley has.
Kinsley talks to her mom and dad about Thorn and feels better afterward and Thorn is better as well.
In the middle of the night Gunner shows up drunk and asks Kinsley for help. He wants her to heal him which she does and then he starts to explain about Cody Black's case.
There are secrets here that get unraveled as well as the mystery of Cody's death. The one thing that isn't solved is what the entity in the mirror is and why it's following Kinsley. There's also Thorn's overprotectiveness that has to be dealt with, he's definitely getting grumpier.
I've already started the next book, I need to have those answers.
Meri was checking out his image in the mirror, swearing that he thought he was getting a little bit larger than his kitten size. Kinsley didn’t see a change. But when she glanced in the mirror, something was behind her, a shadow. She turned but there was nothing there. When she went to the kitchen, Thorn was still home and asked if she thought he should sell his house since they were getting married soon and he already lived here in the guest bedroom. They teased about her dumping him and having no place to live, but Meri assured him he could sleep in the garage! Kinsley thought she saw an image in her mind of Thorn as a blond child running toward her, but then it seemed to be her own child running toward her. But her baby would probably have dark hair? Would the baby look like Azriel, whom she had only been married to for one day while she and Thorn had broken up?
When Kinsley continues to see the dark shadow in the mirror, and even in other shiny surfaces, she begins to feel frightened. What is she seeing? Is something stalking her? Why can’t Meri sense it?
This is such a fun series and the reader knows and loves the characters. The story line captures the reader’s interest from the start, keeping that fine line of tension that moves you eagerly through the book to see what will happen. Grab your copy and enjoy another Kinsley adventure!
Mirror Magic takes these interrelated stories to a new height. We’ve had witches, familiars, satanists, and vampires; in Mirror Magic we add werewolves and some mysterious demonic creature that’s stalking Kinsley through mirrors. Our beloved witch heroine, Kinsley and her faithful familiar, Meri, solve one mystery only to become embroiled in an even greater one, the mystery of who or what is stalking her and then dispatching him/her/it to the other side.
Besides being stalked by some demonic creature, there’s trouble brewing between Kinsley and sheriff Thorn, her fiancee. He wants her to stay home and play it safe, to stop being the independent witch that she is, and she’s not willing to make that concession. The sale of his home fell through so he’s moved out of Kinsley’s Hangman’s House back to his own. Will they resolve their irreconcilable differences? Will there be a Halloween wedding? Or will they go their separate ways? We’ll just have to keep reading these delightful stories to find the answers to those questions. The next book in the series is Jack-o'-lantern Magic, and I’m reaching for it right now!
Loved it Kinsley is expecting and trying to keep her baby safe. Recently when she looks in the mirror she shes a dark shadow behind her....she turns around and nothing is there...not only mirrors but she sees the dark shadow in any thing reflective...she is getting scared. Thorn is having his own problems trying to come to terms that the baby isn't his but he still wants to marry and take care of Kinsley & the baby. I love the characters in this series which is a spinoff of the Wicked Witches of Coventry series. Sara Bourgeois writes both series with no swearing, gore or adult situations so they are excellent for 12-15 year olds. But this 54 year old loves them! If you want a clean easy reading and lovable characters, I'm partial to Meri, he is Kinsley's familiar, then this series is a excellent choice.
The mystery is good. What I don't care for much is how the relationship with Thorn keeps going up and down. I get that happens but every other book it just is a bit much. Especially this last reason, he complained about the exact things that he does on a daily basis. His job is dangerous and he is not planning on changing his job. No one can control what another person does that puts them in danger. She at least is a witch. He is not a witch. His reaction over everything is to run away, take time away. How is that going to reflect back on children. You and they can't react like that because they do something you don't agree with. I just really don't like this pattern.
This is an entertaining supernatural mystery series. Basically the next generation version of the previous series. The town of Coventry where a family of witches has been hiding in plain sight for many generations. The town has magic that keeps humans from recognizing the magic. Follow along as the main character and her familiar as well as the rest of the family in the coven must continually stop evil from taking over the town and at times the world. Entertaining and occasionally gets a bit dark but mostly mysterious and entertaining. An eclectic cast of characters and entertaining storyline. Check it out
Dorian Black believes his drug addicted father didn't commit suicide long ago, he was murdered. Kinsley is willing to help him investigate but Dorian is hiding a big secret of his own. When Kinsley starts seeing a black figure reflected in mirrors, she wonders if it's connected to the murder. With too much on her plate & more questions than answers, Kinsley wonders what her future will be once her baby is born. But first there's a murder to solve. I was happy to read more of Brighton & Remy, Kinsley 's parents. The first Coventry series tells their story & I've missed them. Both series are quick but detailed reads that spin a good story.
The aunties are back!! I have waited this whole series to read about the aunties and the coven getting together to put their magic together. I thoroughly missed them. I'm hoping that we will see more of them in the next book. Kinsley and Dorian joined together to solve a mystery, but more than one seemed to fall into Kinsley's lap. With the coven and Meri, almost all of the mysteries will be resolved. In this book, the characters continued to develop their relationships with one another. I'm sure that the lingering unsolved mystery will be resolved in the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another keeper Interesting happenings in Thorn and Kinsley's lives. Their wedding is scheduled soon - Halloween to be exact, and now there's trouble in paradise. Thorn is having trouble with Kinsley's involvement in dangerous situations. Something is definitely happening in their relationship with Thorn not liking Kinsley's "duty" to help anyone in need. Excited for the next in the series. These books read quickly and it's fortunate that there are some thirty more waiting at the click of a button. Highly recommend!
Kinsley is still pregnant. Dorian is looking into his father's death and there might be a ghost hanging around. There might be drug addict, a mirror that involves werewolves, a person who was a satanist, an attack and capture and there's the relationship between Thorn and Kinsley. Put it all together and you have another decent book in the series.
I am still enjoying the series. It will be interesting to see what effect a baby will have on all the things that are going on.
Kinsley just wants to get ready in the morning and only see herself in the mirror. Unfortunately for her, she has company. She discovers Dorian has company in his mirror too. Neither company are of the friendly nature. Also, turns out Mrs. Anderson has kept a lot of company….unwillingly. Kinsley helps Dorian rid himself of his company. She helps Mrs. Anderson see the error of her ways. She is still working on getting rid of her unwanted guest.
Wonderful series. Meri the cat steals the show again. He is everything a demon hunting magical cat should be. If you like a touch of magic and a mystery to solve, this is the series for you. Each book has followed the family through generations and a new generation is coming into this world very soon. A very enjoyable book, relax and read.
ARC Review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I'm Coventry Kinsley and thorn are now engaged with her going to have a baby by azriel . As she is looking into dorian's father's supposed suicide. she also has other issue . I love these mysteries .Awesome
Meri finally is needed to rid the world of a demon, which he does in a spectacuar fashion. I am intrigued in this book that the baby is referred to in both the singular and in the plural tense. How many babies will there be and will Adriel be there to claim a child of his own. I need to keep reading to find out.
Kinsley is in the middle of many issues. Dorian and Issac and a trapped demon in their mirror, Dorian's search for answers in his father's death, Uncle Gunner's head injury from long ago, and a dark spirit stalking her reflection and causing issues with Thorn and her relationship. Can her life get back to "normal"?
Each book in this series just keeps getting better!
A really fantastic series! I love Mari, the cat! He's a great protector and has a unique personality all his own. Although, I wish he had a more masculine name. I enjoyed the story line in this book very much! Can't wait to see if Thorn will come to his senses and what is that thing in the reflective surfaces? Interesting!!
Another good story but getting tired of the romantic part of the series, too much now she loves him, now she loves the next guy angst. So many series do this to get routing going for the romance
Great story.Plot was interesting ,flowed well and was well thought out.. Characters mostly warm and likeable but quite eccentric. The story was one of the best of the series. Satisfying conclusion although it leads onto the next episode and I can't wait.
Kinsley is pregnant and they always say “they” when referring to “the baby”. But to make matters worse, there is a dark entity following her around. And she can only see it through reflective surfaces. What happens will keep you in a state of intrigue.
Another great book in this series! Kinsley finally finds out how the ghost in her shop died, along with more magic. I’m still enjoying this series! Thank you for a great read.
Boy this kitten familiar is strong! He gets cuter!
Just can't sit home! Needs to be busy! Someone is following her using mirrors! Someone else is using mirrors! I really can't wait till the baby is born!
This book rolled out lots of loose ends and answered lots of questions posed in the earlier books. And then, the author leaves us contemplating another huge problem that demands a solution. I’m loving this series!
Once again, the coven is facing a mystery and a demon or two. Can Meri save the day, or will it take more? I can't say how much I love this series. If you get the chance, you really need to read it from the beginning.
Kinsley is exactly like her mother was at her age. Headstrong and always getting herself in dangerous situations. There is no regard for the child she's carrying. She's helping others and at the cost of having a healthy child. It was a good story, though, with a good ending.

This story was something else. I am loving her new best friend and his husband!!!! I loved that it was more than one case to solve this time. Also I am wondering if what is following her has some consequences for Thorn.
Another interesting book. I never suspected the killer. The characters are really well drawn. I would love to go to a place like Viv's for coffee and a treat. Can't wait for my next read
