After a tornado strikes Coventry, the cleanup efforts are interrupted by the discovery of a dead body in the ruins of one of the worst-hit homes. But was the deceased killed by the raging storm? Or, is there something more sinister going on?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Wow what a fast paced story! Kinsley's pregnancy is coming along and she is finally married to Sheriff Thorne Wilson. Kinsley is at Viv's diner when a little boy comes in and his Dad has a fit when he notices Meri, Kinsley's cat, and Tangerine, Kinsley's dog laying on the floor under the table. The little boy wants to pet them but his Dad has a fit and threatens to call the health department. The Dad begins to berate the little boy in front of Kinsley and her friends Storms are coming to Coventry and Kinsley finds herself with Meri, her cat, and Tangerine, her dog, in the basement taking cover.... After the storm passes Kinsley comes out to find some destruction in the town. Kinsley and her friends go to help fellow town. The town of Coventry has a coven of witches that put a spell over the human inhabitants so they don't see the magic that the Skeenbauer coven uses to protect it. But they can't protect the town from a tornado... Once again Kinsley finds a man with a knife sticking out of him...so do they have another murder on their hands? The story line is fast paced, clean and wholesome. With a few surprises thrown in! Loved the ending and the covers for each story are amazing Highly recommend
Thank you to Booksprout and Sara Bourgeois for allowing me to read an advanced copy
Kinsley Skeenbauer Wilson & friend, Reggie, enjoying breakfast at Viv's diner are disturbed by a verbally abusive father during his son's visitation. But a storm of a different kind is pounding Coventry. After heavy rain & a tornado devastate part of the town, Kinsley, Reg & Dorian try to help their community. In a partly wrecked house they find the abusive father with a fatal knife wound & his son gone. With Thorn busy doing rescue & cleanup, Kinsley decides to solve the case. With the near disappearance of the Coventry witches magic, that won't be easy. Shorter than most of the series, this is still a complete mystery & continues the saga in a charming & satisfying way
In an interesting twist this book is in two parts, it opens with massive storms moving through the area. Kinsley decides to go into work and takes Tangerine and Meri with her. Not fair to leave them to fend for themselves in the storm. While Viv had opened the Brew Station, she definitely wasn't busy.
Lunchtime sees Kinsley and Reggie closing up and heading to the Brew Station and Viv is very glad to see them. She even tells Kinsley to bring the animals inside, as the storm seems to be building into something worse. After a rather unpleasant encounter with a man berating his son, Viv decides to close, Reggie and Kinsley are in agreement to just head home and wait it out. Then the Tornado hits Coventry.
In the aftermath of the storm there is much destruction and yet erratic areas untouched. Such is a tornado's path, hit or miss. Dorian, Reggie and Kinsley aid in checking neighborhoods for people needing help and Viv sets up to feed folks in need. In one neighborhood they found neighbors concerned about one particular house. The man hadn't come out and he had his son with him. This is where they discover a body and when Thorn arrives, he checks the rest of the house, and the son doesn't appear to be there. Jeremy is familiar with the man and calls his ex-wife, she confirms her husband had picked up the boy before the worst of the storm hit. One less thing to worry about.
Even as pregnant as she is, we all know Kinsley can't stay out of things and Reggie is certainly one to aid her in this quest. Unfortunately, Kinsley ends up in early labor after talking to the ex-wife and her son. Just to make things more interesting the tornado sirens go off again and the race is on.
After the birth we get an unusual result on the body found after the tornado. That was quite the surprise.
Then we come to part two of this book. Before Kinsley even left the hospital, she started having nightmares. There's no explanation for them and her magic is going wonky as well. After one particular bad night, Thorn is due to start back to work and her mom is coming to help. After he leaves and Brighton arrives, she gets a call from Reggie. The shop has been broken into. Nothing is missing, but something's been added.
Things get even more interesting when a body is found under the hanging tree in front of Hangman's House. Lilith was pacing in the street in front carrying a knife and is disoriented.
Things get even more peculiar as her dad helps her with summoning the women's ghost to find out who killed her. Witches seem to be involved somehow and they need to know what's going on to top it off, another body of someone close to the first one.
Lots of interesting twists in this one as the story unfolds, no answers on the reduction of magic though. Meri is snarky as ever and Laney the new baby is just precious.
Thorn and Kinsley are getting ready to have their baby. There's a really bad storm coming and there will also be a tornado. This part seems to me something that might not have a natural explanation and I won't be surprised if the next book in the series looks into that.
Thorn and Kinsley are in a diner and there's an older guy and his nine-year-old son. The guy is ultra-nasty, even to his own son. Later, he's found dead in his house so Thorn needs to find how he died and who killed him and also find out where the boy is.
There's yet one more problem. Kinsley is not due for a couple more months. Babies don't always read the calendar, though, and it seems as if her baby is ready to make an appearance. Is this a natural thing or something else strange going on?
For Sara Bourgeois, I have become a binge reader. I have read all the books in the Familiar Kitten Mysteries Series and pre order all the new ones as they become available. When Stormy Sky Magic showed up on my Kindle Cloud Reader a few days ago, I could hardly wait to read it. I had to force myself to wait because I was right in the middle of reading and reviewing two other books.
Stormy Sky Magic picks up where book 8 left off with Kinsley and all the other witches in the Skeenbaugher coven having lost their magic powers, or, at least, most of their magic powers. Things get exciting when a tornado tears through Coventry, destroying a much of the town. While a very pregnant Kinsley is our going door to door in search of trapped survivors, she, yeah, you got it, comes upon a dead body with a very large knife sticking out of his back. Kinsley and her sidekick Remmy, investigate.
As Kinsley and Renny are leaving the victim’s ex wife’s home, her water breaks. She’s about to bring her baby into the world prematurely and is rushed to the hospital in Thorn’s police cruiser. From this point on, this story is filled with one surprising twist after another. Kinsley and Thorn discover… well, you must read this wonderful story for yourself to find out what they discover. My only regret with Stormy Sky Magic is that at a mere 98 pages it’s ends way too soon. Now I have to wait for book 10 to be released.
A great supernatural cozy mystery series. And awesome cast of characters and a fun and slightly dark storyline. Kinsley is the head of a powerful witch family. The skin bore which is in Coventry I’ve been the main group of witches in the town since the beginning. A veil of magic covers a town that keeps humans from seeing the magic. Follow long as Kinsley and her friends and husband solve murders mysteries and other issues in the town. Along with Mary her cat familiar. Check it out
Community, family, and togetherness are some things that came to mind while reading this book. Kinsley experienced these things throughout the book which seemed to make her more human than one would expect.
This book and series have continued to find a way to pull the reader into the story and become lost in its pages. This is a fast paced read that begs for more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Going strong. Thorn is much more likable since he has decided he shouldn't try to run Kinsley's life. Number 9 in the series. The baby has arrived, Kinsley is trying to stop trying to solve mysteries and is exploring life as a mother. Something I wrong in Coventry so the must spend some time figuring out what is wrong. Thorn is not having as hard a time with this part of his life so he is a much better character. Highly recommend.
ARC Review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. In conventey kinsley is now married to sheriff thorn Wilson and pregnant she now has tangerines the dog with meri her cat . But there is a bad storm coming and a new murder . I love these stories alot.
Crazy weather has hit Coventry. Tornadoes are popping up all over the town. While helping out the town Kinsley finds the body of a man in his house with a knife in his back. Who would stab the guy while a tornado passed through? Kinsley goes into labor, but it’s 2 months early! Will everything go okay? Gotta read the book! It’s a fast read and a great series!
Cleaning and baking cleanse the soul. When Kinsley is actively avoiding murder cases for maternity leave two drop in her lap. One solves itself in a rather spectacular way. The second is a bit macabre, but chocolate chip muffins were involved so it wasn’t too bad. Though it left Thorn a little confused. So who was the golden lady?
I am always amazed with authors and their thought processes when writing. A newborn enters the story along with a few deaths. How do these work together? Read and see for yourself. Story was really awesome and unexpected. Going to the next book! Can't wait!
Loved this storyline and great characters! This entire series so far has been extremely interesting and entertaining! Mari is a wonderful feline character and I enjoy all her antics and snarkiness, but he does have a softer side sometimes. Great series!!!!!
I enjoy these books immensely, but I've recently noticed that auto-correct (or something) is making, or missing errors. This is not distracting enough for me to give up reading the series, I just wonder what's going on. Is it one more example of our tolerance for the declining quality of almost everything?
I think the author has lost her interest in this character. There was really no mystery. It was more of a thing up loose ends and living happily ever after. Though she leave one thread unresolved should she want to revisit these characters.
When an exciting series this is! I’ve finished each book and enjoyed each one a little more than the one before it. I’m hoping that this series continues. I think we’ve all wished we were magical and this series is like stepping into a magical world.
I've read the whole series and will miss the gang in Coventry. Being from Illinois, it was fun to see it featured and kept me guessing exactly where Coventry would be. How about a new series about little Laney?
So much sea Lord up in a short story. Well put together, and just what happened to the energy????? The courthouse is still.haunted and creepy and dangerous. An unexpected delivery changes everything and life gets clear.
This installment brought a new character into the tale & helped clear some previous questions up. It also left the door wide open for the next book in the series. It was a quick read but left me wanting more.
Another great book in this series! I couldn’t stop reading, the story just pulls you in, makes you feel at home. I have one left to read, then I have to wait for more to be published. A really great series! Thank you for a great read!
This one was short. I skipped 7 and 8, so I was a bit lost on certain bits. This one was more, I guess, about her having the baby. The possible murder bits felt more like an after thought. Still, fluff and a bit of action.
So Kinsley is married to Thorn, pregnant and as usual gets involved with another murder. However, this one will turn out differently for everyone involved. And now I can't wait for the next book.
Just keep em coming! Delighted Laney is Thorns baby after all! Don't like cats but Meri might break my prejudice down eventually. One of. My mothers cats tripped me , sounds up with a concussion (long story). How do I stop this review?
Storm comes and magic is affected. Witches have lost magic abilities!
With magic ability lessoned, there are those wishing to change things! Soul entering wanting to take over bodies! Will Coventry survive!? Read and find out!
Kinsley and the coven are in a bind, magic is fading and life is getting too normal. Add to that, witches are dying. Can the Coven figure out what is happening in time to save more lives? I highly recommend this series and everything else written by Sara Bourgeois.
This was a very interesting book. I found it very dark and foreboding. I expected it would since they have to restore the magic. So I am prepared for more black magic.
I love the series Familiar Kitten Mysteries. The stories vary and have all been interesting enough that I continue to read, book after book. This one dealt with the evil souls.
Storms have hit Coventry and the magic has not returned. Two murders occur in this book and there is dark magic happening. This is the third of this series that I read as the titles fit three letters I still needed in my alphabet challenge. It does not hurt that they are cozies, also.
