The first chapter or so of this book pissed me off so bad. As I got into the story, it starts at the wedding. And suddenly I find myself shouting "Oh my God I hate Thorn!". He's such an ass in the first chapter or so. If he was real, I'd have smacked him in his face. However, he seemed to do a 180 swift fast and in a hurry as the book went on. Kinsley is so forgiving and she blames herself for the way he acts. And some of it is her "fault", but mostly I still don't like him. Even by the end of the book. I love this series though, because of reactions like that. The people are obviously extremely believable. I didn't pay 100% to the mystery here in this book. I mean, I know who was murdered, by who and why (creepy, FYI), but I was still feeling my hate of Thorn lol. But it's just as good a story as the previous ones in this series. Meri as always, is snarky and adorable. I was shocked and very upset at an event that happened to him at the end of the book. But all turned out well. I can't wait to see what further shenanigans Kinsley, Meri and crew get involved in next.

SPOILER-

Honestly, I don't enjoy the mystery with Thorn taking over at least half of this book. So disappointing, there was hardly anything left for solving the mystery. The "he loves me, he loves me not" desperation made Kinsley look like a desperate woman who can't take care of herself. Also, Azriel story line is getting to be a snoozefest as well. I wish Dorian was attracted to Kinsley- I think those two would be fun together and they have a lot in common! Love Meri- he was the saving grace in this book. I've loved all of the books so far, but this was left me bored and saddened at how Kinsley's character has changed from an independent and strong woman to a witless lemming being told what to do.

Spoiler...

This started out as one one my favorite series. Then the version of Thorn came along in this book that gave me whiplash. I barely liked him before, but the relationship between Kinsley and Thorn has fully entered the middle school zone. I am giving the next book a chance. We will see...

Sara Bourgeois has a winning series, The Familiar Kitten Mystery Series. These books can be read in any order and enjoyed as standalone mysteries, but to get the fullest enjoyment from them they must be read in the order that they were written. Each book places Kinsley, our heroine witch and her faithful familiar, Meri, in a recent murder case, which they always solve by the end. These books don’t end with the solving of the crime, they give the reader just enough of a glimpse of what’s coming with the next book in the series. They’re real cliffhangers and make us rush out and buy the next book to find out what happened. Book 7 in this series ended with the vampire Azriel crash the wedding of Kinsley and objected to their being married. This book begins with her regaining consciousness and seeing Thorn placing Azriel in handcuff. He then tells Kinsey their wedding will have to be postponed and disappears with his prisoner.

She then visits Azriel in the holding cell area at the sheriff’s office. He tells her that Thorn had an undercover agent in his motorcycle club who turned his club members against him. He tells Kinsley that he didn’t run off, abandoning her, but that he was kidnapped and held captive until she set him free by breaking that fun-house mirror. He swears that he loves her, but, like Kinsley, it leaves us to wonder if he’s really telling the truth or just trying to manipulate her into turning against Thorn and helping him escape punishment. With that opening, I knew that I was in for another rollercoaster thrill ride.

As we knew would happen, Kinsley becomes involved in another case. During her investigation, the tires on her car are slashed, her familiar shot, but. Of course, as we all know, Meri can’t die. Kinsley herself would have died if the security system in Thorn’s truck hadn’t sent him a message that something was wrong. Thorn and his deputies arrive in time to save Kinsley and to take….. No! No! No! Go read the book to find out who killed Pepper and almost killed Kinsley. Another mind blowing cliffhanger ending. Something horrible is happening to the witches of Coventry, to witches all over the world. How can this be? What/who is causing this to happen? Will they get their magical powers back? Well, well, just have to wait and read Stormy Sky Magic (Book 9 in the Familiar Kitten Mystery Series.)

If you haven't read the previous book, STOP, go back and read it. This book begins where that one left off.

At the end of the last book, Azriel crashes Thorn and Kinsley's wedding as he protests their union. Kinsley passes out and when she wakes Thorn and Jeremy are taking him into custody on attempted murder charges.

Aside from the shock of all that's going on, Thorn insists on taking him in, and stopping the wedding. Kinsley is dumbfounded yet takes on Azriel's dog Tangerine refusing to let Thorn send her to the pound. She's embarrassed and thankfully her parents Viv, Reggie and Dorian get her out of there quickly. Back at Hangman's House she manages to get everyone to leave except Dorian, he's ready to commiserate with her since he thinks Issaic is filing for divorce.

When Thorn doesn't come home, Kinsley goes to the station to confront him. He's not there and Jeremy doesn't know where he is. Kinsley insists on seeing Azriel, which starts her doubting again and falling apart outside before she goes home. Her father comes not only to check on her but also find his Santa suit. They end up heading downtown to get breakfast as he drops off the suit at the already built Santa house.

This time it's Remy who finds a body and try as she might Kinsley just can't help getting involved. Jeremy is first on the scene with Thorn arriving shortly thereafter. It's quite the confrontation between the two of them.

Of course, you know Kinsley isn't staying out of anything, especially with her father as a suspect. Her friends Reggie and Devin are right there with her as she gets caught eavesdropping on Thorn, Jeremy and her Dad. After they're chased away, Meri takes over the listen for her.

Devin finds out there is a vigil to be held that night and they both head over. She runs into Thorn, and he suggests finding a judge right then and there to finish their wedding ceremony. Kinsley thinks the timing is inappropriate considering where they are and that ends up going downhill quickly. Although, he does promise to come home that night.

There aren't quite as many suspects in this one, but I still managed to be surprised. There are other surprises in this one as well, a happy one and an unusual one that isn't so happy.

It really is crazy how we go right from Halloween to Christmas and just skip over Thanksgiving like it’s not even there. I have to completely agree with Kingsley on that! Too bad that there was a murder in the Santa’s Christmas house. Maybe Thanksgiving shouldn’t have been skipped! This time Thorn is sidelined because of a conflict of interest in the case, but it just means that he’s finally supporting Kingsley in her investigation behind the scenes. I’m so glad that their finally working things out. It got crazy for a while! I wasn’t too surprised by who the killer was. But, his reasoning was totally twisted! I mean, yikes! The ending was a segue into the next book, so it should be really good!

Yule Be Magical picks up immediately from where the previous book ended. Anyone that has not read any of the previous books should read them all in order to completely understand things. Don't let that stop you from reading Yule Be Magical if you haven't.

As always, Meri is a hoot to have around and he takes his job seriously. Kinsley must muddle through her feelings in order to deal with the newest murder.

This book is a fast paced read, but take your time and really enjoy the story, writing, and the clues.

We saw in the last book in the series that Kinsley and Thorn were about to get married but the wedding had a crasher....Azriel
Thorn arrests Azriel and then disappears on Kinsley and won't reply to her calls or text messages
Kinsley is visited by her Dad because he is looking for his Santa suit....he needs to play Santa to the town....
Kinsley goes into town with her dad so he can drop off the Santa suit at the Santa hut but things don't go as planned
There is a body of a woman in the hut....so Kinsley does what she does best....she tries to solve the murder
Another great addition to the series and a great cast of characters.
A clean cozy mystery

The ongoing story of the Sheenbauer witches. Kinsley is in for a lot of trouble, she and Thorn will have a lot of things to work through. If you have read any of this series, you will be pleasantly surprised by this story. Will things ever calm down in this magical town. You will enjoy the warm and welcoming characters that reside in Coventry. The world building is great and you feel the friendship and kindness of the citizens. Highly recommend to all cozy lovers.

Entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. The next generation of Skeenbore witches is about to create an even newer generation. Follow along as Kinsley Skeenbore the most powerful witch in town is about to get married. What mystery awaits is it a murder is it a crime. Read on to find out. A very entertaining and satisfying series.

Love?

The protagonists in this series act more like bickering brother and sister than like two people in love. Who gets married and goes around interviewing murder suspects rather than going home to make love? The most physical things they ever seem to do is hug or give a quick kiss on the forehead. Tsk... Maybe the next book will have a murder that is interesting enough to overlook the lack of affection between these two.

Hot Chocolate

If you’re reading this in July, you are still going to want hot chocolate. The killer is not a surprise. Sara makes it blatantly obvious. Kinsley who is normally more intuitive is rather dense in this book. The good news. Character development! So yay! Multiple bad guys are sent away. New bad tidings are introduced, but not sure if it’s old bad guys or new bad guys or new bad guys connected to old bad guys.

Better than last
I had qualms about Kinsley and Thorn's stormy, endless problems continuing. Not sure if they will stay less annoying, but relationships seem to be better and hopefully will continue to improve. The story is entertaining and keeps me reading right along . Great story and a couple of intriguing cliffhangers. With 43 books in the series, number 9 is ready and waiting. Recommend!

Fun story!

Again, Meri is always my favorite! Like with all the books in this series, there are some typos and a few grammatical errors, but I really do enjoy this series. They are quick reads, and are pretty "G" rated, but not a cheesy "G" like, say, certain network TV movies. ;)

Exciting new things happen for Kinsley

I enjoyed Kinsley's new mystery. Trouble and dead bodies seem to follow Kinsley and her friends and interfere with her love life. It is refreshing that her and Thorn are able to work through their problems instead of giving up.

Christmas time and what else would happen but a murder at the Christmas house.

Kinsley's pregnancy is coming along and she is finally married to Sheriff Thorne Wilson.

This is a very fast-paced story.

What a rush.

Kinsley and her friends are getting ready for Christmas, but of course, there is another magical mystery. Can things get sorted in time for Christmas or will things never get back to normal?
Yet again, I will highly recommend that you read this series.

Good story

It was a good story. I was hoping for more answers to be given about the vampire and if what he said was true. I hope we find out in another book real soon. It would be messed up if what he said was true. But I would be so happy. I am not a fan of Thorns.
