Welcome to Legacy City, America’s nightmare. Poverty and pain are the norm, the local cops and politicians are corrupt, the crime families rule with an iron fist, and they are all profiting from a ravenous new drug called “The Trip”, which has been tearing its way through lower-class neighborhoods. Just when all hope seems lost, a real-life vigilante shows up and begins raising Hell one block at a time. His name…The Illegal. As a survivor of Mexico’s Latin X Program, he is an enhanced, obsessive-compulsive killing machine whose rampage forces his enemies to hire the most dangerous assassins in the world. Between the endless parade of monsters after his blood, and the Trip on the cusp of going global, the Illegal accepts that he can’t win this fight alone. A team must be assembled, one that includes a young protégé that’s ready and willing to take up the mantle of the maraca.
Legacy City is ridden by corruption and crime, and may carry the rest of the Universe(s) in its downfall. The Illegal, a new superhero, is here to make things right.
This story has grit, colorful characters, and a pace that never stops. The comic book violence is interspersed with witty and harsh dialogues full of pop culture references, which is why it felt like Tarantino's take on comic book superheroes.
It is not for the faint of heart, but it's a breath of fresh air in the superhero genre.
Don't let the cover convince you this book is for children. This highly descriptive action novel definitely has an adult theme and content. Sophisticated writing and colorful characters develop into an intriguing story with a theme that is relevant and profound. I'm glad this is part of a series and I can't wait to see how it evolves.
For anybody out there who loves superheroes as much as I do, you’re gonna want to check this one out. In the vein of Batman, the Punisher, and Sin City, this is an epic and violent story filled with engaging characters, relevant themes, and also plenty of pop culture references. It’s also great to see more representation in the superhero genre.
