Taking control of diet and lifestyle to get leaner and meaner
Author Michael Hewitt earned his degrees from Rice University and University of Denver and is a graduate of Music Academy of the West, Aspen Opera Center, Perry-Mansfield School, and the Washington National Opera Cafritz Training Program. He is an opera singer, a body weight and kettle ball instructor, an exercise nutrition coach, and runs The Anti DadBod Squad providing personal coaching to aid men in losing weight.
What those impressive credentials do not include is Michael’s skill at writing about fitness with one of the most hilariously funny yet extremely practical and honest techniques imaginable. Publishing his book at this period of time – the COVID-19 pandemic – Michael speaks directly to us about weight management at home. ’Being thrown out of our environments of control leads to a lot of things, and one of them is weight gain.’ And after sharing his personal history of being a fat boy and his rise to the muscular and fit body he now inhabits, he offers realistic and sound advice on taking control of diet and lifestyle.
‘Discipline, energy, and focus are cheat codes to success in any arena, and the key to creating a body you're proud of - and keeping it forever. Instill them by adopting these diet, exercise, and lifestyle switches.’ He discusses Epic Changes: ‘Belief that on the other side of change is something worth being uncomfortable for, Structure (control what you can control), Energy, and Discipline (embrace delayed gratification).‘There’s no better foundation for the structure of your day than what and when you choose to eat, and how and when you choose to train your body.’ And then he offers his Cheat Codes of the book’s title - Fasting, Intermittent Keto, Build muscle and get strong – and how to achieve them.
Michael’s language is naughty at times, and he takes on some comments that may frighten the reader, such as ‘America is fat. Really fat’ and ‘There is one chief reason that people get fat: they eat too much...They simply consume more calories than they expend.’ But stay with him to the end of this brief book and enjoy a new vantage on health. This is a very solid – and entertaining! – guide. Recommended.
