Mark Draper has had a nervous breakdown. His London legal career in tatters, he is ordered to take a year off to recover and goes back to where he grew up in rural Norfolk. But he soon starts experiencing strange and frightening phenomena. Are they real or part of his condition? As secrets from his past start to resurface he begins to wonder if he is losing his mind or whether there is a dark force residing in the village, and why he is constantly, and relentlessly drawn to the mysterious abandoned house on the edge of town…Cornfields.
Mark Draper and his wife Deni escape London and look for some quiet rest on the countryside. But Mark, a lawyer, is starting to see strange apparitions, then they hear about a deserted burnt out village, you'll see a mysterious manor in a Cornfield, shudder about a tricycle (my first thought was about King's Shining). What is real and what is imagination? Mark has mental problems but the longer they stay in their new home infested by an evil presence the sinister the situation becomes. Will Mark get out of this little Norfolk village alive? What about his father who sold the strange house for several times as an estate agent? This was an extremely eerie novel with many goosebumps moments and a fine twist. Don't leave London for any rural living (LOL). Really recommended!
