The heart wants what it wants, no matter how much Jamille and Hudson try to deny it. Jamille Bechard has two priorities in life, her son and her business. Dating is not on the list, and that includes former soldier, Hudson Bailey. A little fun between them is okay, but love is not on the table, too bad her heart seems to have lost the memo. But Jamille has been scorned by love once and she refuses to let it happen again. Hudson Bailey has only known the life of a soldier for the past two decades. Now that his time in the service is unexpectedly over, he has no idea what to do moving forward. That is, until he walks into Jamille Bechard's coffee shop. The flirty, quick witted, strong-willed single mother is like no other woman he's met. When Hudson starts to fall for Jamille, he knows he’s in dangerous territory. The woman has made it clear she’s not looking for love, commitment, or a father figure for her son. Everything with Jamille is touch and go, but can Hudson find his way into the woman’s heart anyway?
I don’t remember how I originally found Quirah Casey. I was probably clicking my way through Amazon and came across Quirah’s novel Relapse. That was my introduction to Ivy and her complicated past leading into her very complicated and developing relationship in the present. I don’t want to spoil Relapse, let me just say that I enjoyed it so much that you should surely read it as well. Anyway, Relapse also introduced us to Jamille who gets her own story in Quirah’s newest novel Touch and Go. I like Ms. Casey’s way of writing because it feels like both main female characters Jamille and Ivy, who are black women, are written as fully fleshed out and dynamic human beings rather than the stereotypical one-note black women that you sometimes find in novels. Jamille, the owner of two coffee shops, is a single mom to a young boy who’s only looking for some temporary male companionship on her terms. The main male character, Hudson, is trying to adjust to his new life after a very long career in the military. He seems a little bit directionless now that his life no longer revolves around his military service. When he meets Jamille, it feels like he’s working hard to hold things together. I appreciated the push and pull and the chemistry between Jamille and Hudson. Can these two people see beyond their own expectations and what they think they want to finally come together? Will they get out of their own way to let love win? This book provides a slow burn that feels very satisfying for the reader. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.
Jamille was such an impactful and unforgettable character in Relapse. When she was introduced I knew for certain that I needed to know more about her. I'm glad to see her story come to fruition in Touch and Go. This story really showed us that there was so much more to Jamille than a
hardworking cafe owner and single mother. It broke her down into her simplest form and showed us why she kept her walls built high, why she was so afraid to feel anything more than temporary lust, and why she worked so hard at her job to support herself and her son. Hudson was such a great fit for her, and although they both originally only wanted physical intimacy rather than a relationship, it was clear that they hit it off instantly. It was also unbelievably heartwarming to see the interactions between Hudson and Jamille's son, Aiden. There was no awkwardness, no negativity, just pure honesty, acceptance, and so many touching moments. I'm so glad that Jamille finally got some happiness in her life after her rough past, not just for herself, but for Aiden as well. After being there for Ivy in Relapse and pushing her to make an effort with the guys, it was good to see Ivy be able to return the favor for Jamille in this book and help talk some sense into her so she could find her own happiness. I know this book wasn't about Ivy this time around, but my heart hurts for her and everything that she'll have to go through in her next book, Overdose. I just hope she's learned to be strong enough and has her guys around to help her if she falls.
First off I just want to say that I do not remember how I stumbled upon Quirah Casey but I am so glad I did. Now Touch and Go will push and pull on your heart strings to the point that you are the one rubbing your chest. You cannot help but love Jamille and her sassiness, confidence and all out strength. Hudson is a man that doesn't realize that what he thinks he doesn't want, he actually does. Did that make sense? Well read the book and then it should. Now I am not going to lie, I BAWLED SO MUCH AND THROUGHOUT THIS BOOK I HAD TO LITERALLY REHYDRATE just to be able to keep my tears flowing. Hudson and Jamille have heat and it is explosive so as you read you will see how their dynamic is perfect. Oh and anything make sure you take small sips of your drinks cause you will get caught off guard every now and then. This is without a doubt one of the best books of the year!
This was a standalone story but has all the characters from Relapse. I really enjoyed this book, it was great to see Jamille get herself a guy and to catch up with Ivy and her men. Jamille doesn't want a guy in her or her son's life, she' happy with casual hook up and that's what Hudson agrees to be. But then they get a little more involved in each others lives than they originally planned. I struggled to like Jamille at first, she was a bit brash and no nonsense but I warmed to her as the story moved on. Hudson was a great character, unsure of his place now he'd retired from service. But they fit together well, they just both need to realise that they'd be good together. It's not just about Jamille and Hudson, there is loads more going on in this book that will keep you page turning to the end.
Hudson and Jamille are not looking for love or a relationship. Jamille believes in sex only hookups due to a previous bad relationship and Hudson is still trying to find his way after a recent discharge from his 20 year military career. I never fell in love with the couple because they were just way too guarded for most of the book. I never saw them as a couple. I did enjoy Hudson’s relationship with Aiden, Jamille’s son. You could see the bond building. Hudson’s mom was a nice addition to the book but I was over the Ivy/Chase/Emmet/Nathan interactions. I know it was buildup for their follow up release but it just took away from giving Hudson and Jamille more pages when they actually were together as a couple. I am sure there will be some aftershocks for the quad after the secrets Ivy exposed in regard to Chase and the one she doesn’t even know about.
When Hudson wake into Jamille’s coffee shop his life changes for the better. Both MCs thought they just wanted a casual relationship but love found them anyways.
I liked both the H and h a lot! They were genuine people and you just want to see them win. Although I was frustrated at times that they were ignoring their true feelings, the journey was sweet and who doesn’t love Aidan?!
Now what I didn’t love is the amount of attention we gave to Ivy and the guys. I know they’re her friends and characters from another of the author’s books (I didn’t read that one as the themes are not something I’m into), it just took away focus from Hudson and Jamille at times. I would’ve liked to to see the epilogue a little father into the future but that’s just me.
I love Jamille she is so funny and such a “boss bitch.” But I was extremely frustrated with her. I’m glad she got her own story though and not just a snippet she deserved everything Hudson was. This was an enjoyable read, I love when the FMC owns her sexuality and goes for what she wants but as with this trope how long she holds out has to be paced right otherwise I’m annoyed and we definitely hit annoyed status. I get that she was dealing with some heavy stuff, which check the TWs on this btw, but I just felt like she decided to stick her head in the sand about just about everything and that just didn’t seem like something she would do. This wasn’t as spicy as Relapse so I was a little disappointed about that but overall again I’m glad to get Jamille’s story.
This was so hard. I could feel Jamille's pain through almost the entire book. The suffering she went through with Ryan, the disgusting racism, the shop, everything. She's such a strong and confident woman, I truly admire her strength. Austin is such a great kid, I love that he's a bit cheeky but also super respectful and polite. Hudson... Damn that man is The Dream. So kind and understandable, with a huge heart that he didn't even knew he had. Their relationship is so fricking beautiful, and everything they went through until they could get where they are now was all worth it. I feel like I need to read this book again and again so I can absorb every little detail about it, it was amazing. 💗
Touch and go certainly packs a punch reading it. What with racism, domestic abuse as well as briefly touching on homophobia too. Its a book that makes you think as well as feel. If youve read Relapse (the book before this one) then you will already know Jamille (FMC). Shes Ivy's Friend (Her and the guys pop up this book too). Business woman Jamille and parent to Aiden her life is void of a relationship until Hudson rocks up at her coffee shop and the sparks fly. Apart from loving the banter and the story with these two characters their backstories tug at the heart strings. It did mine. Hard reading in parts but i loved Jamille and Hudson. Relapse was a great read and this book was just as good.
The story was well developed. Finding and accepting love after a traumatic event is complicated even more so when you’re a single mom. Jamille seemed bullheaded at times however she ultimately took chances are their relationship ended up being beautiful. I wish the book covered more of the relationship between Hudson and Aiden. A very special mention for Hudson’s mother. What a wonderful and wise lady. She helped her son navigate this new relationship, pushing, reassuring and backing off when needing. The friendship between Ivy and Jamie is also beautiful. I’m looking forward to the next book and hopefully Hudson and Jamille will make a special appearance. One comment though. Better editing is needed for instance at times the names were wrong.
Touch and go by Quirah Casey is a standalone novel but characters from Relapse appear. So it will be more fun if you have read that book first, but it's not necessary. I love to see characters from other books because it's fun to see how they are doing.
I loved the relationship between Jamille and Hudson. They fit very well together and were so cute. Their relationship seemed very healthy and realistic, and I loved it. Jamille and Hudson had a great character development throughout the book, and I loved their growth. Jamille is an amazing mother and friend. She is a total boss lady, and I want to be her when I grow up. Haha.
Touch and go is very well written and has a great storyline. I enjoyed reading it and will definitely pick up more of Quirah's books. Also, I want more Ivy and her men. Loved seeing them.
I received a free ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions are my own.
From the beginning the writer grabs your attention with such an stand out character. The story isn't something that hasn't been tried but ,the feel of it is just really fun.The story handles quite a few serious issues and it just come off not being over the top. But as you start getting to the end you get feeling that its being rushed, you don't get to see this family dynamic actually working. Overall it was a good read but at times it seemed like more emphasis was placed on the friends relationship.
I lived this story! Both Jamille and Hudson were strong people, but they were so much stronger together. I would say it took a while for them to realize, but that would be a lie. They took a while to address each other about it. Sometimes your worst critic is you, but I'm glad they finally got their heads out of their butts. I feel like there's still more to know about this story... How excited was Hannah, will there be a baby, did sperm donor get reborn and come to his senses ? I am hoping there's more to come...
This book was amazing! It was the first time I’ve read a book by Quirah Casey. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I’m disappointed that I didn’t find out about this author before now. I would have loved to have read the first book in this series
The characters will draw you into this story, and you will definitely have a hard time putting it down. Jamille and Hudson fit together really well.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love this book is was a sweat and sexy page turner. I couldn't out it down. However I really would have liked some more back story into Hudson and also device a little more into Jamille's back story. All in all I enjoyed reading it. And am looking forward to more reads from this author. I see the prelude to Ivy's story and am looking forward to reading it hope it is interspesting.
I thought Touch and Go was a breath of fresh air. Actually Relapse and Touch and Go were a fresh and new spin on the typical romance. It was cool that the characters were relatable and believable. For once they're not uber wealthy and the author doesn't spend so much energy focussing on knowledge of expensive material possessions. But straight to the point of telling the story. I sincerely enjoyed having something new and different for a change.
This was the first book I have read by Quirah Casey and it won’t be my last. While reading this book you realize that these characters have some seriously developed back stories and you want to know everything. Luckily, I have discovered that Relapse is a book that is written in this world and I cannot wait to dive into Ivy’s story.
This was a well-written story that pulls on your heart. These characters are very well crafted and you feel you know them and feel their feelings, frustrations, and victories. This is the first book I have read by Quirah Casey and it will not be my last. A must read.

Jamille and Hudson are characters worth falling for. Both have pasts that make them against having a relationship. It's interesting to see them fall in love while denying it for most of the book. Hudson is a wonderful male character and he changes into an even better one by the end of the book.
I loved Jamille and Hudson from the start. The flirting was so cute and I could absolutely feel and believe their connections. I was so happy when we finally got to the intimate scenes and boiiii were those 🔥🔥! This one definitely touched me with the issues Jamille had with her sons bio father. I could definitely relate to Aiden on that front.
Great story line and love seeing their growth throughout the story. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Exactly what did the H do for a living? Or does he ever get a job? For someone so intense , I can't see him sitting around doing nothing. But all in all , this was a pretty good story
This is a beautiful story which had me totally enthralled throughout this addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all readers.
I really liked this book was very interesting. Kept me intrigued. A little heartbreaking. Some angst. The story line is amazing . The characters are all well done and I am completely rooting for them. I can’t wait for the next book.
I enjoyed watching two people committed to singlehood find "the one" in each other. Hudson's reason made no sense to me other than being the average male. But Jamelle's reason would make any woman hesitate.
