Collects Fantastic Four (1961) #241-250; What If? (1977) #36; Silver Surfer (1982) #1; Marvel Fanfare (1982) #2
Master storyteller John Byrne’s groundbreaking FANTASTIC FOUR run continues! From a mysterious Wakandan adventure to the chilling return of Galactus, Byrne orchestrates epic adventures that capture the spirit of what makes the FF Marvel’s greatest super-team. Each issue explores the essence of these beloved characters while also putting them in extremely unexpected places - like side by side with Doctor Doom in a battle for Latveria! Byrne also recognizes the power of Sue Richards, has changes in store for Nova and the Thing and returns to the X-Men for a supersized 250th-issue extravaganza! Plus: John Byrne’s SILVER SURFER collaboration with Stan Lee, an alternate-universe exploration of a Fantastic Four without super-powers and a rare story spotlighting Mister Fantastic!

John Lindley Byrne is a British-born Canadian-American author and artist of comic books. Since the mid-1970s, Byrne has worked on nearly every major American superhero.
Byrne's better-known work has been on Marvel Comics' X-Men and Fantastic Four and the 1986 relaunch of DC Comics’ Superman franchise. Coming into the comics profession exclusively as a penciler, Byrne began co-plotting the X-Men comics during his tenure on them, and launched his writing career in earnest with Fantastic Four (where he also started inking his own pencils). During the 1990s he produced a number of creator-owned works, including Next Men and Danger Unlimited. He also wrote the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing.
This volume collects part of one of the best comicbooks runs of all time: John Byrne’s tenure on the Fantastic Four. It was this and Alpha Flight that turned me into a lifelong ‘Byrne Victim’ (I didn’t discover his X-Men stuff until later; blame the vagaries of the then-very-patchy UK comics market).
If you love comics and you haven’t read this run, you owe it to yourself to do so. It doesn’t get much better than this.
This is the second of John Bryne's masterful run with the Fantastic Four. Not only did we get great science fiction stories but true human dramas. The characters became more real under his pen. We already loved them but with this volume we begin not just to watch them work but become a part of their family. Even today reading all the new stories I still look back at this run as one of the best.
Almost as good as the early run, but Byrne gets back into a villain-of-the-week rhythm here with some notable departures. There are a lot of sci-fi stories and development for Sue Storm.
The latest collection of classic Fantastic Four stories, these from the pen and imagination of John Byrne. Fun stories, excellent artwork and lots to enjoy.
