This is a complete, practical country guide to Cyprus for independent travellers, featuring a chapter dedicated to activities on the island. It also contains expanded sections on culture, history and food and drink.
OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
This was a very useful book when I was in Cyprus for a month working. I only had a few days off to go see sights, but I was able to choose where and how to get there very well. This book combined with the cyprusbybus website made my trip very successful. Tip: Google transit doesn't work in Cyprus, so definitely use the cyprusbybus website.
Generally a good book about Cyprus in my opinion. There were many nice facts/tips but also some that were not so good. Worth checking if you are interested in actually visiting the country, interested in a little bit of history, culture and basics.
A good book. I read not all parts because some parts of Cyprus were not relevant to me. Some chapters of the book I re-read a few times :) A good summary, what to do, the text is well written
Searched for this book in New Orleans and wasn't able to find it at any major retailer. Thank goodness that Diwan Books in Cairo, Egypt had a copy!
Though I spent only four days on this beautiful little island, I would have been completely lost without the LP. Cyprus is not built for independent nor budget travel, but LP does the best they can to help you along with these goals in mind.
Having done next to no research on the island, I was able to cover almost the entire thing, catching everything of note, relying only on my little blue book!
The one thing they don't tell you is that if you happen to get flagged by the police in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, you can expect any and all of your rights to be thrown out the window. . .but that's a story for another day!
