Dragon Rising is the fabulous second book in the Dragon Guard series! Debbie continues rolling out some of the best and most creative world building I've read. Her characters consistently draw me in with their personalities, quirks, flaws, their moxie, and yes... they are all hotness personified. Every single time.

If you know anything about me, you know I read a lot. So trust me when I tell you, this series is only two books in and I'm here for it all. Hook, line, sinker.

It's been awhile since I read the first book, so I went for a reread. I remembered it was good. I knew i wanted the second book as soon as i finished. I love all her series... but DRAGONS! I'm in love. 😍❤

So, yes dragons and I'm now anxiously waiting for the next book.

Here's what I can tell you about this book without spoilers... it is exactly what I have been waiting for. Anya is tough and protective. She's got things going on that need figuring out.  She will not leave someone behind, ever. She will fight tooth and nail for what she believes in. I adore her.

I am loving these guys! I want to know more about them all, but especially Azazel. There's so much more to this story and I can't wait to devour it all.

This is the second book. The info below is a bit of a cheat sheet for readers who may not remember the characters and sides. So if you haven't read book 1, Dragon Trials, yet... stop now. These contain some little spoilers, but will help if you are like me and read a lot. Little reminders, yep!

The opposing sides:

- Skins are mutated offspring of Dreki and humans

- Dreki have 3 lords and one presumed dead queen (Anara). Dreki are dragons from Furtherlands. Bred with hunans to increase numbers after many died during war. Humanity's last defense left to only awaken when needed.

- Draco are unmutated offspring of Dreki and humans. Wrote the current history painting themselves as good. They seem to value power and control above all else. Also called Bloods. Want alliance with Jotunn but really want to enslave them.

- Jotunn are powerful ancient monsters who will arrive in months after one of two grimoires was opened. Two opened grimoires signals gods to return after humans are gone, but one signals end of days.

- The Gods are gone and have moved on as of now.

     The characters:

▪︎ Anya is the FMC. She's a skin and does jobs like fighting and stealing to help her family. Strong sense of right and wrong.

     The guys:

° Azazel has been with Anya from childhood. Disappeared for awhile for reasons not his own. Fades from time to time.

° Dante is a Dreki lord that allowed himself to be captured to save Vesper from Draco.

° Vesper is a Dreki lord who after being saved takes Anya and siblings to Furtherlands.

° Orion is a Dreki lord that her father told her to give the book to.

      Other notable characters:

- Helgi is Anya's bff. Also a strong fighter.

- Illyrian is Anya's adoptive father and was taken to Draco City to lure Anya there.

- Bran and Nile are the mercs that was captured with Anya, Helgi, and Dante in Draco City.

- Wex and Yasra are Dreki sparring partner guards who help on the Section 8 mission.

- Gustov Imperial is the leader of the Draco

A new reader needs to start with book 1, or will be lost, as this book picks up where book 1 left off. I don't know, I think I enjoyed book 1 more than this book. I'm sort of on the fence if I even want to continue with the series when book 3 comes out, I guess I'll see how I feel when it comes out. The story flowed decently, but did not really pull me into it as well as book 1 did. This book left a lot of things up in the air, but answered other questions relating to Anya, too. I don't know, it's definitely a slow burn, but I just couldn't get behind the 3 guys she ends up "mating". Something just didn't resonate with the RH relationship for me. I liked Azazel (who is not in the RH, at least not yet) better than the 3 Dreki lords.

Oh man, I don't know how rate this. 80% or so in, I was sure it was going to be a 4 stars read. The plot was much more engaging and action filled than the first installment. There was also more sexual tension and hot scenes. Then, the author decided to drop that bombshell of a reveal, and shi* got nasty real quick. I honestly don't know how to speak about this without ruining the whole book, but suffice it to say the romance got a major hit after that reveal. It was absolutely gag worthy.🤢
Maybe other readers can stomache it, but it's hard pass for me.

I’m not liking it. Things feel mechanical and forced. At this point, finding out that one of her guys had the hots for her mother has turned me off him completely.. and he was the only one I liked out of the dragons. But the real good choice is somehow not even in the picture anymore, and of course, oh so conveniently, he couldn’t even touch her anyways.
I just hate this. Moving on from this mess!

I love the worlds and characters that Debbie Cassidy crafts - they are lush, full bodied and deep, offering multiple plot lines woven around a main story that, quite literally, sweeps the reader away. In recent months, Cassidy has gifted us numerous such books, yet the Dragon Guard series may be my favorite of the bunch. Anya, and her loyal best friend, Helgi, are two Alpha Women with guts and determination to spare - set in a world that presents them nothing but trouble.

Not only is this pair the ultimate in #FriendGoals, but they are taking a front seat to the epic changes that are soon to converge on this ravaged planet - and taking up prime roles in a resistance they knew nothing about. It's a journey from start to finish, with action abounding and unwanted attraction brewing. The past comes back to knock on their future, secrets are laid bare and the price of honor is exposed. It's a bit brutal, rough, adult oriented and wonderfully done.

Honestly, so much happens in this novel (though not enough to become overwhelming) that it's hard to nail down what I liked best in the review. There is now a trio of dragon love interests, along with a shadow from the past - and a stain on the future that is slapped at the reader with a cliffhanger ending that made me gasp. I'm always iffy on cliffhangers, but that one? That one I enjoyed. Not because it filled me with warmth, but because it opens up SOOOO many possibilities and muddles the trajectory I THOUGHT this plot was going in.... which is, quite frankly, typical Debbie Cassidy. =)

*I received an ARC of this book and am thrilled to share my honest opinion!*

Perspective:
First Person, multiple POV

Ending Type:
Cliffhanger

My Final Verdict on Dragon Rising:

I am in love with this series so far - Anya may be my favorite FMC crafted by Cassidy yet. She is mature for her age, thoughtful, tough, determined, and open about who she is, if not what she is. The world is lush and vivid - and I can't wait to see where this goes.

I love Dragons, I have been obsessed with them ever since I could remember. So every Dragon book I can come across I usually read them. Of course you add in one of my favorite authors, and well you have a damn good read on your hands. That is exactly what this is.

This Dragon Guard series has really been one of my more favorite reads. So with a good female lead we always have to have a good side kick. I am so down for the friendship between Anya and Helgi. A lot of action happens here, which with a Debbie Cassidy book is given. I love when the female lead and a male interest keep saving each other. How fun is that. Like to have a female lead that can actually defend and save someone. Although I also do love a good damsel in distress.

Overall this is your typical Debbie book, you have wonderful characters, an engaging plot, quick pace, lots of action and just honestly one damn good book. I would highly recommend this series and this author. She has a lot of series that are some of the best in my opinion.

¿Qué?? ¿¡Cómo que ese es el final!? Maldita sea, pensaba que me faltaba más. Ahora tengo ganas del siguiente. 😬🫵

Uuuff, Azazel, ¡cómo me encantas!

For as short as this book was over 100 things happened plot wise and 90% of it was unnecessary. Like she was ready to go charging into the unknown Elsa style every 3 pages.

Lots of action, good worldbuilding, great characters, and the mystery why Royce is so hot to capture her keeps you reading. I'd recommend it.

Like all books I read by Debbie Cassidy she has once again reached in, grabbed me by the throat and made me 100% invested in this series. As soon as I started reading I was fully engrossed and it was impossible to put down.

Book two is a great continuation to this series. We get some answers to so many questions about Anya...we know who she is, what happened to her and what she is doing for the future. We learn about Azazel more and see what they mean to each other. One of the best though is the connection and support that is between Anya and Helgi, it shows real loyalty and love! We also get to meet so many new characters, some that I think are going to become so much more throughout the series.

I liked that we get to learn more about Vesper and get this special POV that really help to get into his thoughts...his interactions with Anya are great, these two will not so gentle gentle with each other and you can see the fireworks whenever they are near! There is more Dante but I have to admit I am unsure if their connection and wonder how they will be in the next book. We get a quick glimpse into Orion and it will be interesting to read the dynamic with Anya and also with Vesper.

This end on a big cliffhanger and I will admit I am unsure if I liked it! I am in two minds with the news that was revealed at the end (not giving any spoilers!). I cannot wait to read more from this exciting series by a very talented author.

One of the aspects of this author’s writing that I adore is that no matter what she writes, it’s unique and interesting. Add to that, she can write in a genre I am not too fond of (RH for example) and make me love the series. This series grabbed me from the beginning, and here we are at the second book, and I am trying to catch my breath. Things have really changed since book one, and we find out more about Anya and her past. Wow, and they were doozies! With the events at the end of this one, I’m really anxious to see what’s next. Oh, and before I forgot, I love the friendship between Anya and Helgi; there needs to be more girl friendships in books. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

2.5 stars. I don’t find the story to be very engaging. I wish the author would have spent more time developing relationships instead of adding more and more unrelated incidents with monsters. I just find we are being side tracked a lot from the main plot. For example our heroine and her crew get attacked by creatures, this gets dragged out a little with the running and hiding and the battle. Then she finds herself pinned down and about to be killed. The author takes the time to drag this out. Our heroine even makes peace with the situation and says goodbye to her friend. All emotional and all. This is in the first 20% of the book. We all know she is not going to die. So get on with it and quit stalling. Because of side tracks like this I find that we don’t really get to know the hero’s in this story and I find that her relationships with them (nothing overly sexual so far) is more icky than lusty. Even though the author writes an emotional connection I don’t feel nor believe it. I also want more Azazel. He’s being dangled on a piece of string before us and being grossly under utilized. Her emotional connection with him I believe but it just kind off goes nowhere.

So I might read the third book, I’m not sure yet. So far I’m not overly impressed.

Okay! Action and secrets being revealed GALORE in this one!!

Anya is still a badass and we are meeting our harem! Dante is the one that SEEMS like he will be mr sweetheart but I’m not sure how I’m feeling about that because of the mom revelation… like did they bang if they weren’t ever mated? Could get weird. Vesper seems like our lovable, sarcastic asshole. I love those characters. Yes he seems like a jerk, but seeing how the dragon queen controlled him when it came to Fenris I kinda get it. Did we need all the cheap shots at Dante? Probably not, but we don’t fully know their dynamic yet. Orion is giving me older, mentor kinda vibes, but we don’t know him yet since he was just introduced. I have a feeling he is going to be a big part in getting Anya trained and up to date on the culture. Also, how will Azazel fit into all of this???

But oof that ending. What does that mean for Anya and her new mates? The way I see it there are two ways this goes, the queen either comes back wanting the guys and all her power back and is someone Anya is going to have to work against. Or she is ready to pass the torch and is going to be fully prepared to help Anya in every way…. We will see how it goes!!

We have had a couple steamy kisses but I’m betting our spice starts in the next book!

Anya's adventure continues, bringing along more kickass action, surprise revelations, and heart fluttering.
Escaping with the kids, mercs, and Vesper, the group heads to the Dreki territory, but the journey is dangerous and not straightforward. Forced to go to the warping, Anya witnesses the fate of some beings while realizing she actually cares for the annoying Dreki lord. And after finally arriving to the safe haven, a new mission lies ahead, one that leads to many surprises and a rescue mission that uncovers a secret about Anya no one has a clue about.
Fantastic read, full of tension and contradicting emotions, complicated relationships, and strong sense of protectiveness. Anya is a really strong heroine, capable, selfless, skilled, protective, and determined to serve the original purpose - saving the humanity. She is facing many difficult decisions, and surrounded by the attractive Dreki lords (and her dear, damn-hot-mysterious shadow/friend Azazel) she has definitely her mind occupied and hands full. While the read was really fast with the swift plot development, I can't help myself but want more immediately - especially with that cliffhanger.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS STOREY!!
Debbie Cassidy does Dragons - You know its just going to be sooo good
Three completely different personality Dragons and a strong willed young lady with an over whelming need to protect people who is more than she seems.
Anya's siblings are now safe and the book was delivered as promised., thoughts now urn to Anya's fathers plight plus the needs of the Dragons and the humans they protect.
Helgi is the one Amazing strong friend we all need in life and her love for Anya shines though in this book as together they race to Anya's father
3 steamy hot and some ties grouchy Dragons complicate things for Anya as the heat level stars to rise plus this book is full on action.
Second to none amazing world building and a brilliant fast paced storey make this book a joy to read!

Risen the series to a new level

Anya, a dragon/human hybrid, escaped the events in Dragon Trial and has agreed to help the Dreki lords, Dante and Vesper, turn the tide of the war with the Draco by teaching them how to use tech. As the story progresses they move from the frying pan to the fire, hard decisions need to be made, and startling revelations may doom their attempts at freedom. Debbie Cassidy’s Dragon Rising has risen the series to a new level in my opinion. The events laid out created a twisted web the reader will get caught in and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

This world is as beautiful as it is conflicted! But we all know a world in conflict brings amazing stories!

It's amazingly written and the conflict between the factions is interesting and adds a completely new "political" war type dynamic to the series.

This is more than a simple reverse harem romance, it's the story of the world and it feels like the characters are along for a very wild ride.

There is a major plot twist in this novel which I found so cool and hooked me further. (It has to do with the captives).

Again Debbie Cassidy has written fabulous characters with each having their own personality and each growing by themselves.

I am really impressed with this series as it has such a different vibe from the others I have read by this author.

Great job!a

I absolutely adore Anya and Helgi, they are so badass and I just want to steal them both. Dragon Rising is the second book in the Dragon Guard series and it's a fantastic continuation from the previous book. I'm a huge fan of dragons so this series is perfect for me.

We definitely learn more about the various characters as the book progresses and some of them are not entirely who we may have thought they were in the beginning and so many secrets are uncovered. I used to hate cliffhangers cause I always got anxious waiting for the next story but the one in this story left me wanting the next one. There are so many ways this story could go and I'm looking forward to seeing what the author can bring us in the next book.

4 stars

Le sigh…this book was still really good, which was why I rated it 4 stars, but it fell short of what it could have been. In my opinion at least.

Nothing kills a romantic buzz better than a reluctant mating. Anya mates with her three lords and immediately asked if she has to have sex with them only the once. She is literally bound to them for all eternity and she’s still being a reluctant coward. Not cool at all.

I also didn’t like the revelation at the end. I don’t have any positive feelings toward the old dragon queen. All Anya’s men were previously in love with Anara, what happens if she comes back? I feel like the potential relationships with her mates are crumbling before they even get a chance to flourish. I don’t like it.

some predictability, some unexpected

Okay. This is going to be the only spoil I put in this review: Thedudeusedtolovehermumeewwwww

Out of my system, whew! Now, some things were predictable and it kinda made things quicker to read but I liked the other mysteries that made me have patience. Saving the dad totally put me on my toes the whole time and I’m not even gonna pretend I’m fine with the breeding agreement thing. Y’all know damn well that ain’t just a thing to do for duty. But it ain’t my business.

I like V a lot. He gives her a lot of attitude and their little plan was cool.

Part of me wishes these things were longer. I’m reading it back to back and this felt so short because of that. But I’m invested.

As always Debbie writes a stellar story! I started and finished in one go. Did I even get up to go to the bathroom?? I’m not sure I did, if so I just took the book with me. I mean how can one put her books down? I sure can’t! I love Anya!! This isn’t one of her longer books but it still packs quite a punch. I can’t believe she got everything in and nothing felt like it was left out. I can’t wait to see what happens. And I love Azazel. Vesper is a bit much. Dante is a little over infatuated already, and who is Orion?? I mean he’s really just getting into the story. I’m ready for more! But I know I’ll have to wait. As always I’ll be her loyal sycophant.

I really liked it, like I always like her books. The storyline is very good. Only a few small things. The previous book was a while ago and I noticed that I didn't remember all the things that happened in the previous book. I know the mayor parts, but I thought that Dante was still caught or had to escape on his own or something like that. I can't remember how they split up and how he was home that much faster. Other thing was that the book was really short, 2.5 hours and I was done.
I hope the next book will be 300 pages, with in the extra pages a bit more focus on the friendship/relationship building.

Anya & Helgi have survived the Trials only to find that Anya's father has been taken by the enemy. She'd like nothing better than to go after him but she has to get her siblings to safety before she can take any action. Vesper promises them sanctuary with the Draki. Anya just needs to make sure she doesn't kill him first. The attraction she feels for Dante, Vesper and even Azazel have her conflicted but nothing else matters in the face of protecting her family. Her priorities change, however, when they reach the Draki and she finds out the truth about the War, the Draki and the Bloods who want to control them all. Book 2 was even better than Book 1. I will warn you that it does end in a pretty abrupt cliffhanger, but I can't wait to get into the next book. Definitely recommend.

I was so looking forward to this book and I was not disappointed. Anya is one of my favorite characters because she is so tough and strong yet her love for her siblings and her bestie shine through. We see more of her world in this book and let me tell you the action doesn't stop. So much more of Anya's past is revealed and the beasties just get creepier. We see more of Azazel and why he left her, really love this guy. Lots of new characters and villains to figure out and I really need the next one. Really enjoyed this book!
