We almost died escaping from Nightmare Penitentiary, but somehow, we managed to survive and to even get free.
And then?
Then, we’re thrown right back into peril again. And as much as I just want to say screw it and give up, I have to pull my “big girl panties” on and keep going. Because the alternative is a very grisly death.
Luckily for me, my men and I are a pack of dangerous half-breeds. A wraith. A dark fae. A vampire-shifter. A shapeshifter. And things mixed in with us that even we don’t understand.
But in this dark place, everyone is dangerous.
And when we realize this prison is a new kind of hell, will we make choices that will set us free, or are we marked for death?
MARKED IMMORTALS is a reverse harem romance set in the shared world Paranormal Prison. It's steamy, humorous, and has just the right amount of an edge. So come join an amazing group of authors in Nightmare Penitentiary, a place you'll never want to escape from. (Also, this is the second book following this heroine and her men, but it released as Book 8 in the Paranormal Prison shared world. The books in this shared world can be read in any order, but you'll want to read Wraith Captive before this book.)

Even though I'm not a huge fan of Prison settings, I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was therefore quite curious to read the second book. I was a little afraid that maybe the second book might become too much of a repeat of the first book, but since Andersen has never really disappointed me so far I had high hopes that she would manage to surprised me in a positive way and that she would make sure I wouldn't lose interest.
This book must be the definition of action packed. From the second the book starts we are thrown into the middle of the action and both we and the characters barely get time to breath. So much is happening! There is so much danger around the corner and there are so few moments to just enjoy some calm and rest. And each of the challenges were all really thrilling and almost addictive. Once I started reading I just had to read on to find out what would happen next.
However, that doesn't meant that the characters don't bond or talk anymore. There are a few moments where the characters having really meaningful and wonderful conversations and I love how we learn so many new things about all the characters we've grown to love in the first book. I also instantly fell for the new addition to the harem. He really fits in nicely and I love how different from the others Storm is!
But, the true story only starts now! I was already hoping that the first two books would eventually lead somewhere and even though we're still missing quite a few pieces of the puzzle, it's quite clear now that there is a bigger picture and that the stakes will be even higher in the last book. I'm really excited to see more of the world outside the prison walls and to finally get answers to why all of this has been happening in the first place. I deserve those. The characters deserve those even more.
Really enjoyed reading this one. It had my attention from the very beginning. I'm a huge fan of RH books and this one didn't disappoint. It was exciting and dramatic and suspenseful. My favorite book by this author so far. Can hardly wait to read more.
The relationships develop fast and Storm is a little bit of an odd fit for the group. It's not really believable how quickly the guys adapt to an additional male to the group's dynamic or how Blade is with Elizabeth as his mate. Too much worry about Gabriel and his feelings in my opinion. The most interesting event in this one is when Ax is fed on by the Andros. I think seeing what happens to him now is worth the next read. I don't really get the "we need you to save the world" bent that the story takes at the end of this book. It makes little sense the lengths to which the testers go to weed out the best prisoners for the task. Volunteers would have been better I think. The other thing that's a little disappointing for me in this book is how little time Elizabeth gets to spend alone with each guy. The group thing is great but it would be nice for her to have some separation.
Wow this book sinks its hooks into you from the very first page. You will not be able to put it down until your thrown out at the crazy ending of a cliffhanger. With such great strong characters in Elizabeth and also her hot men Ax, Gabriel and Blaze and then Storm when added to the bunch. We see them all work through so much and learn to trust and fight to survive the tests they are put through. To come out on the other side with the cliffhanger ending. Totally worth reading and cant wait for book three
A brilliant read. It's grips you from the very beginning and doesn't let you go the whole way through. Thinking that they were free at the end of the last book things don't plan out that way at the start of this one. Elizabeth (FMC), Ax, Gabriel and Blade are thrown into a more dangerous place than before. Having to play a vicious game just to stay alive. Finding a shifter - Storm who has been there along time but wants to help them out. One hell of a read and that ending was knockout!! I can't wait for the next book now
This book in the series was absolutely brilliant and filled with action and spice. I truly enjoyed all of the characters and everything they bring to the story. I can’t wait to read more.
Marked Immortals was a great followup from book one. As with the first one it was pretty intense and I found myself not being able to stop reading until the end. I needed to know what was going to happen next, like yesterday.
Not to give too much away but I will say that the team is someplace new, and it is not a nice place. They are tasked to compete against other teams. But this is where we meet Ghost. Hell yes this is what Elizabeth needs. But is it really?
So as with a Lacey book you get action, fast pace, amazing characters and a interesting plot. This series is no different.
Elizabeth and her men thought they finally escaped the prison, but not quite yet. They are thrown from one nightmare right to the next one. They can't even have a moment to breath. This book hooked me from page 1, and when I finished it I felt a sense of loss. I can't wait to read more of Lacey's stories and of the Paranormal Prison world.
Fast paced definately no slow burn series with a lot of heat and Action. The reverse harem's equivilent to Hunger Games/Maze runner but as a team. So many twists and turns and a new addition to the group - Storm has been alone for a long time just surviving but now he finds he has something to live for as Elizabeth is his mate and the group become his pack. Its with his help that they will survive the tests that have killed so many others but teh big question is once the escape what awaits them. Definately worth a read if you are looking for something fast paced and enjoyable.
Right away, I have questions such as, why go through such elaborate “tests” with Elzabeth and her lovers? Why slaughter so many supernatural inmates in “tests” when earlier they had punished Elizabeth for “violence” against another inmate (Grisly in the first book). Why would the warden take all the prison staff to wait outside the prison gates for Elizabeth and her men to attempt escape, only to shoot them with some knock out agent that lasts long enough to wash them, tattoo them, dress them in some sort of fighting uniform, and drop them off in a fighting arena with living quarters for each team of fighters? And the biggest question of all, why did the description of Blade change in each book? First he has baby blue eyes and blond hair. Then he has deep brown eyes. Then he has dirty-brown hair.
Previous book: “He stands at least a head taller than me, with wavy blonde hair smoothed back from his face and a slight beard. His eyes are an intense baby blue color, and his skin is tanned. There’s something both gentle and dangerous about him, at the same time, that leaves me unsettled.”
Later in the same book: “I turn to Blade. His deep brown eyes are locked on me.”
This book: “He has dirty-brown colored hair, slicked back from his face and a little long. The style draws attention to the sharp lines of his face, which are softened only by a slight beard. He looks ragged and dangerous…”
This book: “Gabriel is the largest of them by far, and the dark fae naturally radiates the kind of energy that screams, “I can kill you with a glance,” which he actually can. Blade is nearly as tall, but he’s more muscular. His blond hair contradicts with Gabriel’s dark brown hair, and he has the rough exterior of someone who never loses a fight. Ax… well, Ax looks more like a supermodel, with his jet black hair, and his tightly muscled body.”
Another question I have is that if this fighting/death arena has been around for centuries, and storm/ghost has been down there for years, then why has he never seen half breeds before. It seems that half breeds are sent to the prison just for being born and if the warden sends inmates down there to die, then why not all the half breeds? Why would Blade be the first that Storm has ever seen? The continuity and world building in this story is lacking. Also, there are some grammatical errors, that I first just ignored, then mentally corrected as I read, and now they are a distraction. For instance, “We continue down the torch-lined hall until we exit out of a strange room. The circumference of the room is about the same as the other main room.” It should read “we exit INTO a strange room.” Another example: “When the police came, it turned out James wasn’t just a politician, he worker with the Enforcers too.” He worker with? Another example of non-continuity: “For a man who’s only half dark fae… who cannot see ghosts or speak to monsters, you’re cocky…”but in the previous book, he saw and talked to ghosts, one in particular saved their lives. This just doesn’t make sense.
Yet, what keeps me reading is the compelling story of how Elizabeth lived a mostly normal human life before landing at NP and meeting her lovers. The sex hasn’t really been all that amazing, other than the laundry room scene and the first night together alone in a cell with Blade after saving his life. I really liked those scenes.
At a little more than halfway, it occurred to me that this second book read a bit like The Hunger Games, than a supernatural RH prison story, with lethal tasks to overcome in a deadly competition. I decided to read a bit further but I also started leaning toward DNF this book/series. This is not a favorite author for me. I won't be pursuing other books of hers. There is some good descriptions, some good dialog, some good conflict building, but then, as I mentioned, the continuity is just too choppy and distracting. When Elizabeth is attacked and nearly drained by the vampires, it first seems stupid that she would go off alone AND that her men would let her but then when Storm tends to her wounds, cleans her, and dresses her in new clothes, there is no mention of where the new clothes came from down in that sparse fighting dungeon. The grammar errors, the changing appearances of Blade’s hair color and eyes, the incontinuities, and the poor world building all serve to bring this otherwise decent story down. I'm reading the last book, though, because I am hoping that some of my questions will finally get answered.
Marked Immortals continues Lacey Carter Andersen’s Dark Supernaturals series. Elizabeth and her men managed to briefly escape the prison after a terrifying night of fighting for survival. Now, they awake to find themselves back in prison, but it’s the same prison and things have gone from bad…to worse. Now it’s a sinister game of “survival of the fittest.” A new man will join their ranks and maybe…just maybe they’ll be able to come out of this alive. Marked Immortals is an improvement on book one and is a genuine page-turner. Elizabeth, I’m happy to say, seems to have a bit more sense in this installment. I find her a bit less irritating and that honor instead goes to Blade and Gabriel. The new character, Ghost, adds a really interesting element to the story. He’s a shifter and I like how the author writes him into the story. He’s been through a lot like the rest of them and the author utilizes him well to help them all. I like how we get another nice variety of characters and supernatural beings in this book as well. I have to admit that the demons really fascinated me. The drawbacks for me with this book are Blade and Gabriel. I feel that they are just trying too hard and their insecurities shine the brightest out of all of them when they meet Storm aka Ghost. Gabriel I can understand to an extent since the author writes him as the “alpha” of the group, but when Blade wants to pull a power play with Storm, for me, it doesn’t play out well. I view it more as him showing just how insecure he truly is to think he needs to compete with Storm simply because Storm is full-blooded and he’s not. This book was really good all in all and I like the suspense that the author builds with this book. I was kept engaged throughout and eager to learn what was going to happen next. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star for the guys wanting to be so insecure and ego tripping. I felt that it was a bit overdone and a bit unnecessary. If you are a fan of this author and enjoy unique storylines then I encourage you to pick this book up.
🛡️🛡️ONE EXTREMELY WILD RIDE🛡️🛡️ Holy hell timber! Lacey brought out one kickass rollercoaster ride with this riveting piece called the "seventh circle of hell", delivering this action packed, hard hitting, heart pounding, pulse racing, nail-biting, spine tingling, block busting bombshell, launching this baby to staggering heights. Imprisoned in a nightmare chocked-full of intense drama, perilous intrigue, horrifying foes, vicious tactics, callous brutality, swirling danger escalating suspense and nerve racking encounters, blowing this hot little treat to life brilliantly. Shocking events and stunning mishaps, churn with the terrorizing trials and thrilling tribulations, spinning alongside the deadly twists and wicked turns, putting our characters through their paces, drawing them closer than they could have ever imagined, melding this gem together flawlessly. The attraction and chemistry builds as each layer is peeled back exposing thrilling emotions, binding them to one another perfectly. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and diversity, transforming into charismatic personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Phenomenal job Lacey, thanks for sharing this lil' fella with us.
This is an amazing second book and picks up right where the first one left off thankfully. This story was very intense and action packed. I loved how these characters fought for each other and wouldn’t back down. There is a lot of plot and action in this story and it doesn’t stop from the moment it starts. There were a lot of surprises throughout this book that thrilled me and some made me worry for the characters. There were times I was reading that I would find myself not breathing from how intense the action was and how worried I was for these characters. I kept getting anxious for them and wondering how they’d make it out of the different situations. There were also a lot of twists and turns that kept me guessing. I love Elizabeth and how she’s growing in this series. Elizabeth can’t pretend to be human anymore and now has more people who she want sto protect and loves. I loved her guys and want more of each of them. This is a great action packed story that has some serious betrayals and the hits just keep coming. I love these characters and want to protect them from everything but also want to see them grow.
Elizabeth and her men wake up in a new location, they are in tunnel. They are not sure what is going on. They are realize that something bad is going on. Elizabeth and the guys end up fighting for their lives for tests that the warden has set up. Elizabeth and her men are getting closer and learning of each others pasts. They meet a new prison, the guys don't like him. Elizabeth is drawn to this new stranger. Storm has seen visions concerning Elizabeth, he decides to help them survive these tests. He has long stopped trying to help others. Storm is not welcomed to group, but Elizabeth decides that she wants his help. Together they will face the tests that the warden has set up and hope they survive.
This was a great second book in this series. There are a lot of details in this story I didn't write about, as it will spoil story. This is action packed with steamy parts that will keep you reading. It is well written and you will be done before you realize it. Grab this book/ series and enjoy the adventure of Elizabeth and her
Having overcome one major hurdle, our heroine and her guys are faced with new challenges. This is going to help with her anger management issues.
This is book two of the series. It does pretty well as a standalone as all the essential bits are explained early on.
This is a paranormal romance with a reverse harem theme. Like all the previous books by this author which I have read, the story is well written and easy to read. The story takes place in a shared world setting which is richly developed and has lots of intriguing aspects to explore. The characters are also well developed, all with distinct personalities which blend together in interesting ways. The plot is fast paced and has a lot of twists and turns to it which made it very engaging and hard to put down. We also get a nice bit of steam along the way, but like the last book, it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so keep that in mind. Overall, a highly enjoyable story.
Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for review purposes
After escaping the prison, Eizabeth and her men have been thrown into something much worse. Tested and tortured, they have to use all their wits and strength to survive, not only the tests but also the competition. When they meet Storm, a lone wolf called the Ghost who survived the underground for a long time, the dynamics in the group change - mostly because of Elizabeth's attraction to the mysterious man, and the others' jealousy. But in the end, his experience and added powers might be exactly the advantage they need to overcome all obstacles.. Adventurous, sexy, and full of tension, so was this fast-pacing second book in Elizabeth's story. As more information about the characters surface, the connection between them (and the reader) deepens, strengthening the reading experience. I enjoyed the various twists and turns, and wanted to punch someone in the end, but I made up my mind and got yet more determined to see the outcome of this new turn of development.
Will they ever be free? When Elizabeth and her mates think they have escaped from Nightmare Penitentiary, they were wrong. They have just landed in another part of it and are now part of some cruel games where they have to fight several other groups in order to stay alive, not knowing if even though they survive the games, whether they can ever be free. While there they meet Storm a purebred shifter, who has been down there for a long time and the only supernatural to always win the games. He has taken an interest in Elizabeth and helps them, becoming part of their pack. But even with Storm can they defeat the other teams? Especially when one of the teams is comprised of demons who don’t die. They come back to life after being injured. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
This is a decidedly dark and heavy series full of violence, pain, death, betrayal, but also unbreakable friendship and fated mate bonds. It's not for the squeamish or faint of heart. The second book in the series continues the adventures of Elizabeth, Gabriel, Ax, and Blade after their escape and immediate recapture from Nightmare Penitentiary. They are out of the frying pan and into the fire, in an even more dangerous part of the Penitentiary, competing with other groups and lethal hazards to survive. They are befriended by Storm, a wolf shifter, who's survived here a long time. He joins them as he feels an attraction to Elizabeth. After many more deadly trials full of violence, pain, blood, and death, the other groups are all dead as Elizabeth's group walks toward the final door. What they find on the other side ends the book in a cliffhanger.
I did enjoy the second book in this series but somewhere this author was failed by her editor or ARC readers cause there are quite a bit of story we already got in book one that were written in this book like it was all new to these characters. From character info to even the RH relationship starting at the end of the first book. All of this is gone over again unnecessarily and I can't believe no one caught it. This book needs to be revised and updated to fix this mess It's almost like the author forgot to go over her own story before publishing. What I can't figure out is why no one else caught it either. I'm really hoping this doesn't happen in the third book cause I do really like the series.
I would recommend reading this series hopefully they fixed the continuous mistakes with an update
Elizabeth, a supernatural who has pretended to be fully human, finds herself and the men she has come to love, Ax, Blade, and Gabriel, in a whole new pile of trouble after they were almost able to escape Nightmare Penitentiary in Wraith Captive. As the story progresses mysterious warnings are given, a new player’s motives are questioned, and just when they think things couldn’t get any worse, fate decides to throw another wrench in the works. Lacey Carter Andersen create plenty of nightmares in this addition to her Dark Supernaturals series for her characters to survive. I look forward to seeing what other twisted battles she has in store for Elizabeth and her men.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I am a huge fan of this author so I was excited to read this new addition to this series. We catch up with Elizabeth and her guys just after they are thrown I to basically another prison after escaping in book one. What they don't know yet is that there ate four other groups there as well and they will be forced to co.Pete against them all with survival being the top priority. An added bonus is Storm a lone shifter that has been trapped there for quite some always making it to the end as the lone survivor. Drawn to Elizabeth he helps them out with some secrets. Quite a few surprises along the way, plenty of steam scenes, and one doozy of a cliff hanger ending. I cannot wait for book three! I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Once again, I was sucked into their story, anxiously flipping pages, desperate to find out what would happen next. This book was filled with twist, turns, and puzzles. There’s also plenty of betrayal and pure and sorrow. There’s so much more that I want to say about this story, but I’m afraid that if I do, I’ll be venturing deep into spoiler territory and I don’t want to do that. I will leave you with a warning though, the cliff this book left me teetering on at the end is steep and sudden. However, it guarantees that I’m going to read the next book as soon as I can get my hands on it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Black Cat.
I really enjoyed this story, it was different to the first one even though it had the same characters. It is #2 with these characters and you need to have read Wraith Captive first. Elizabeth and her men thought they had escaped the prison, but they've just gone from one prison to another, only this new one is much more deadly. I loved the way their relationships developed and strengthened, they had to face their past in order to move on. I loved the plot of the book, it really made for some interesting situations and I loved the introduction of Storm. I actually enjoyed the little cliffhanger at the end, I will definitely be reading the next book.
This was an amazing sequel to a blinding first in a series!
The prison within a prison was a complete curveball and honestly marks it as one of the best things I have read this year.
The plot is fast-paced and action-packed in both fighting action to the steamy scenes we all love.
The introduction of a new male (who is now my favourite) was a great move as the novel wouldn't work without him (and no, this isn't because I'm biased lol).
Another dive off of the cliff for me as I reached the end before I was ready. Next book when? aha
I am buzzing for the next novel after recovering from my book-induced hangover, and cannot wait to see where this plot goes.
The nightmares of Nightmare Pen are about to get so much worse. This book is so action-packed, it's perfect. And we get introduced to a new character along the way. Elizabeth and her men fought for their lives to escape, but it was all for nothing and they are thrown back into peril.
This was a brilliant addition to the series and by the end, I feel like the characters are about to go on an entirely different adventure and I'm so excited to read all about it in the next book in this series.
The relationship between the characters, including the new character thrust into the group, just keeps growing and the steamy scenes are perfection.
Not as good as the first one imo, but also weirdly better in some ways too?
Gabriel is just a dick and I do not like him at all, looove the addition of Storm though.
This book was pretty much identical to the first one with the ending and everything. Two books in and I still have zero answers and there's barely any plot, the books are set it the same place the whole time which gets boring.
The mystery/epic-ness of Elizabeth's father and her powers is like non existent.
Hoping for the final book to be a lot better and actually have some plot/answer some questions.
Wow this was a great book! I can’t wait to see how this story ends. Each time I open a Lacey book they are so hard to put down. She really knows how to engage your attention and keep you enthralled. I love it. She is fast becoming one of my favorites. Elizabeth is a strong FMC and an interesting one. With her wraith powers she is unit and very unique. It makes her someone you want to know and find out more about and more about what she can do. Also want to know more about what’s happening and seeing where things are going.
There’s no good outcome to waking up with tattoos, fresh clothes, and no idea where you are. But that’s what Elizabeth, Blade, Ax, and Gabriel find. Some crazy underground complex and is that the warden’s voice? Who’s this Ghost everyone mentions?
Things go from bad to worse and Elizabeth and her guys try to come to grips with their new situation and decide if trust can really be given in a situation like this.
Sony think because it’s book 2 that Lacey Carter Andersen doesn’t have something major in the works. Finish Marked Immortals and keep reading!
I love everything Lacey writes and this series is no exception. This is definitely one of my favourite plotlines in the Nightmare Penitentiary world, and I was thrilled to read book two!
There are so many new developments in this hunger-games style section of the prison. There are moments that rip your heart out, moments that cause you to overheat, and moment that makee your skin crawl, *cough* spiders *cough*.
So much to unpack in this book and so many new questions left for book three hree. I will definitely be continuing this series.
