Rate this book
Like most bookcases, they are not limited to one genre.

There's stories of high-flying adventure, tender romance, mind-boggling mysteries and much more. The Bookcase Collection, previously published under the title, Tales from a Storyteller, is a collection of fourteen completed short stories.

From mermaids to mobsters to dreamers to rebels, there's something exciting for everyone.

Originally from Ohio, I now reside in Texas with my folks and little sister. I'm a born again Christian and I want to give all the glory to God.

I love writing! I tend to lean toward suspense, thrillers, the occasional wholesome Christmas story and "what if" scenarios. Such as what if you were to check out a library book and someone unknowingly left a document in the pages that contained life-altering secrets concerning the government. That sort of thing.

Aside from writing, I'm always reading. I love the classics, historical fiction, adventures, survival, fairy-tale retellings, suspense, and any and all things Newsie related.

I very much enjoy plays and musicals, embroidery, road trip adventures with the fam, retro arcade games, and board games. I'm also very interested in weaponry (archery, swordsmanship, etc).

I just couldn't get into this collection. Some of it may be they just aren't my type of stories (though exciting) and some of it is that I really tend to have trouble with first person present tense.

Content notes: some of these are violent, with one story a guy slapping his wife and treating her like dirt.

Another thrilling read from Virginia! The structure of this book was like no other book I have read. It consisted of multiple, varying stories put together in one book. The title of this book was truly accurate! I had such an enjoyable time reading these short stories; all of them. Each one took me around 2-10 minutes to read. The stories expanded my imagination and urged me to continue reading late at night. They all had a fascinating plot line, including the very short ones that were just as magical in their own way. Another thing I liked was how most of the stories had an overarching lesson expressed through the use of imagination that was so well written in a short format (Example: bullying, friendship, love, etc.). Others had interesting topics that made me stop reading and think about (Example: fantasy topic or futuristic story). There was enough detail to get across what needed to be known, but not too much to spoil the story or make it too long. It was a perfect balance. "The Bookcase Collection" was a great and fast read if you are interested! I recommend! :D

Virginia Henderson sure knows how to write original stories. Most of these plotlines seem incredible, but she manages to pull them off. Each short story is a complete standalone, and, really, in a complete different genre than the one before. I can’t say anything about the stories without giving spoilers, but I will say my personal favorite was The Eternal Shining Star. However, The Diamond Eye Boutique wins the most creepy award. As is the case with all collections, there is one that really didn’t click with me, and that would be The Rebel. Dystopian has never been a genre I cared for.

The writing did seem a bit stilted. She has definitely improved since she started though. I have read many of her works, and, chronologically, each one is better written than the last.

The Bookcase Collection is a excellent choice for curling up and reading on a rainy day. Just maybe not at night.
