Lola has a body made for sin and passion to match...
A struggling college student by day and stripper by night, Lola Bordenaux is definitely not looking for love, until one day it literally sweeps her off her feet...and into the nearest Emergency Room. It's impossible to resist the unconditional love and unbelievably hot sex offered by her former professor, Peter Koss. Intrigued by the possibilities presented by a virginal mate, Lola can't wait to mold him into the perfect lover.
Lucky for her, this boy genius learns quickly and is very good with his hands, his mouth, and assorted other body parts. Giddy with their new found love, they quickly move in together, but Lola can't resist the appeal of the strip club, and their relationship is trashed in her wake.
Five years later, older, wiser, and determined to achieve all her ambitions, Lola returns to the school and the man she has always wanted. But it will take more than apologies to win him back. First, they'll have to fight together for their lives.
Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal intercourse, violence.
I don't eat bread anymore but we all know this phenomenon: visualize the last slice of bread, the end Caribbean people call it. Now recollect taking that end slice and putting it in the toaster. Now remember that time you left that end slice, that already doesn't have much in it, in the toaster too long while you got ready. Hereupon, you pull out the blackened and hardened slice and attempt to spread butter on it. But there's no moisture in that hard, crunchy slice to absorb the butter and make it melt so the butter just sits on the burnt toast in cold, solid clumps.
That's what reading this book felt like. I so wanted the butter to melt but the all-telling, dry, hard, factual, emotionless, crunchy burnt end piece wouldn't allow for the potential that existed in the idea of a stripper and a professor romance to manifest.
I really liked the characters and the plot line. Without giving anything away, Lola is a stripper who literally bumps into her old professor which triggers a steaming hot romance.
*Warning - Spoilers ahead*
A few things irked me, not in a major way but still... First, I understand that Koss is a genius but to be a graduate professor at 24? Farfetched. If the age gap between Lola and Koss was slightly larger, it'd be more believable. With Lola's character, it would seem more befitting that she didn't move in with Koss so easily. She didn't really put up a fight even though like the author points out, she really wanted independence which she eventually gets. Also, the story never delved into Lola's past or what happened re: sexual abuse, poverty and bouncing around in the foster care system. With such a horrendous childhood, more time should've been devoted to how she got rid of her nightmares instead of magically saying that 5 years later she's healed. Also, Lola's return after 5 years had no details about her life except with regards to her academia. But how did she pay for everything and where did she get this newfound confidence? And she never reached out to Koss once but now is demanding to have him back? Hmm. The ending was rushed but was to be expected given the climatic scenes towards the end. Overall, GREAT IR BOOK and hope to read more from the author ;-)
I read this book because this author wrote my 2nd favorite book this year "Rock Star". This book was definitely not as good as "Rock Star" but I liked it. I thought Dr. Koss was great and Lola was a lot of fun. I just feel like the ending was a little rushed because they were in an Amazon like war zone being held hostage by guerrillas and war lords and of course eventually made it home safe with a few scrapes and bruises.
I did like the relationship between Lola and Ginger in the beginning, I thought that was a realistic relationship between women and it wasn't the cliched girlfriend stabs you in the back scenario you usually get when woman are strippers.
Again I would read more by this author if I could find them in print. On Amazon and the like, all of her back catalog is ebook and I just don't do those.
I am new to Ms Holcomb's books, but this won't be my last book. I enjoyed this story. It had romance, adventure and was a definite page turner. Koss was a geeky tough guy and Lola was a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, but they were made for each other. It is definitely worth reading.
