I'm currently in the process of switching from Ruby to full-stack web development. I had been trying to learn using tutorials on the author's website, which are quite useful and attracted me to consider getting the book, despite my hesitation to buy it to save money.
I've read a few chapters for now but can already say it was a really good investment for me. I needed more methodical learning that covers core concepts in a logical order, and this book delivers exactly that. It is well-structured and in the same time doesn't include any fillers just to bulk up the page count. The code examples are real use cases, making them practical and easy to understand, yet not overly simplistic. Plus, there's access to a GitHub repository for hands-on practice.
So, I'm glad that I bought it and look forward to further reading
