Love this trilogy! Brain-bending Sci-Fi at its best!
I have read a ton of Sci-Fi books over the years and my favorites have always been the sagas, the series that some authors write that span years, decades, millennia. Too often 250 or so pages just allows you to scratch the surface of an amazing story, leaving you yearning to learn what happened next? Is the victory/defeat enjoyed/suffered by the cast of characters who have populated your thoughts the past week or so short-lived or did it truly change their future?
Terry Scott’s “Advent Trilogy” set is one of those special series that not only builds the excitement in each successive book but has you thinking back to early books/sections, “Wow, they are all connected!” what they say in book one can sometimes mean one thing until you read something in book two or book three, exciting your brain to connect the dots.
Terry also truly pushes the envelope in what many call hard sci-fi, books that contain a fair amount of science and flesh out concepts and ideas being kicked around today.
You need to get this entire set, book one scratched the surface of what is to come and by the end of the trilogy you simply cry out for more. The ongoing saga will keep you reading late into the night, hating the moment when you actually have to come the book until tomorrow.
Anything that involves people planning against each other or arranging plans within plans is a favorite of mine specifically for sets like this. Information about those plans was dealt to the characters well enough that I never felt lost while at the same time it wasn't dumped on me in large blocks. Epilogues must be trendy places for twists now because it's the second I've read this year with something like that. Five stars for execution of concept, a great gasp of how characters react to each other, and managing to warm my heart a little.
Wow, this was a fascinating story and I was hooked from beginning to end. It is similar to The Game, yet different in many ways. It's intelligent, clever, mysterious and intriguing, and I loved it.
The writing style was fast-paced with an easy flow, while the characters and plot were perfect, so to make a compelling read.
I have reviewed each part separately, so this overview is just to say that I'm sure that those who like to think and be entertained, would love this trilogy.
I really enjoyed the first book, the second and third books were very complicated and kept jumping back and forth between alternative worlds. I reminded me in the beginning of a book called Thrice Upon a Time. I think Hogan was the author of that one where timelines keep getting more and more confusing as they try to go back in time to fix things. Although this book doesn't have time travelers per se, but it does.
If you want to break your brain on alternative universes, give this a go.
Personally it was a plot twister from hell. In the sense that my mind needed constant fuel to work the magic that was happening on the pages. The writing was subtle and still but the story was ever evolving. I was heavily impressed with the circular plot and the dynamic of the characters. It really was a rough read at times. Especially in the source moment of pain towards the bad of it all. But it was well written and well developed. Would recommend to anyone with a sci-fi love for books.
If you have read any of the books from this author then you know the genre and you know that it’s going to be an amazing book. It fits into the author’s collective of stories and flows great with other works that he has written. I would highly recommend this series.
Looking for something totally different and mind blowing???? Read this series, couldn't put this down. I want to see this on the big screen!! Would make for the best sci-fi ever.
If I was a writer, this is a book I would want to write. The seamless flow of the storyline had me smiling through its entirety. The ending fit. The characters fit. This is an epic
It was decent but slightly predictable. I gave it three stars because the concept in itself one huge hole you can fly a galactic spaceship through. It was very slightly touched on as an afterthought. It took away from my enjoyment.
I feel as though I need to reread The Game Series and others to find Easter eggs that I may have l looked over. It's hard to truly grasp the ideas that one person has and the ability to tie them all together, while leaving the reader wanting more.
Even though it can be confusing at times, the more you read t, the less confusing it is. Worlds upon worlds upon worlds. Each world as succinct and real as you are.
This is a complicated book. It has some great ideas and world-building with lots of plot twists and turns. I did tend to get lost or confused with the large cast of characters and the multiple realities.
Very original AI and aliens story, but with some typo errors. A really great adventure moving between a real world and simulations , where the reality ends up being where you are
