Who knew it’d be hard to start new when you’re on the hook for murder?
Someone’s out to get me in Midpark. They want to make me look bad, guilty of a crime I didn’t commit. The only question right now is who could play the game better than all of us?
The truth is set to come out. Things are going to get worse before they get better, and soon more blood will be shed in Midpark. The puppet master wants to make me look bad, but anything he does only brings me closer to my guys—to Dante and Vaughn. Even Jacob.
Archer? I might forgive him for what he did. Maybe.
Someone in Midpark is wearing a mask. By the time I find out who it is, it might just be too late.
**Reckless is the third and final book in the Midpark High trilogy. There are steamy scenes, along with multiple love interests. This trilogy gets darker as the series goes on.**
Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.
Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!
If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.
I couldn't put this book down. Lots of mystery and hot romance. I loved all the characters and I hope this is not the last we hear from them. The ending was as satisfying as it could be for someone who didn't want the book to end. I can't wait to read more from this author.
I started reading the series, but then I had to interrupt the reading to read Sin. Too many references were made regarding a previous standalone written book that piqued my curiosity. Although the book Sin is a standalone, the reading helped me understand the events and references of the following series. The storyline and plot are well-written. I like how the author writes; she draws the reader into the story. However, although it is an RH story, I did not feel the chemistry between all the characters. Maybe better chemistry between Jaz and Archer. The author writes sex scenes, but they are not excruciating sexy or panty drop. There is no build-up or foreplay in the sex scene. As I mentioned in my previous reviews of RH characters, very few authors accomplish such. RH authors usually enhance better one love interest while the others are less developed. They are more left in the background. Jaz, the female character was not much likable in my opinion. Jax was an eighteen-year-old with a lot of sarcastic lines in the storyline. I felt that she was more hormonal in the sex scenes. She was over the top with the teasing. Jax was out of the ordinary “quaint” with her relationship with the other characters. She is not naive although her brought-up may suggest as she might be. Archer, I did like him at the beginning of the book, then he was my least likable with all his bad decisions; however, in the last book, he redeemed himself, and the author developed and matured him into a better character. In my opinion, Jaz fights for Archer to have him in her life as her love interest. Jaz does not fight as much for the other characters. Regardless, they all are enamored with her. Jacob is the only character that feels out of place in the crowded RH group. Jacob is one of the characters from the book Sin; he is an ex-cop wrongly accused, blackmailed, and set up until he loses his badge. All the other characters are eighteen-year-old high school except for Dante, a twenty-something-year-old, and Jacob, an almost thirty-year-old. However, Jacob becomes Jaz's escort due to the evolving events in the storyline. In my opinion, he should have remained a personal escort for the nutty teenager. I liked how Jaz teased Jacob; it was very nutty. It felt so wrong when Jacob would escort her to the other boys for them to have sex. Also, he stands out oddly in the relationship when all the characters are together. I believe that the author should have Jacob as a standalone book written. Although Jacob has a very horrific and heartbreaking background, in my opinion, he is too mature for Jaz, and I was disappointed with his character. Dante is crazy. The author pens him as a chaotic and disorganized fellow. In certain scenes, he is fun, as a child getting in trouble. Although a few years older, he fits better in the teenager group. Vaughn, he is the opposite of Dante. Vaughn is a thinker, an introvert, a meticulous planner, and not much talkative, and the combination makes him a more dangerous guy due to his origins. Vaughn is a Scott, a powerful mob-type family. I guess my favorite male characters are Archer, Vaughn, and Dante. I was heartbroken for Oliver, known as Ollie. He is a character from the book “Sin.” I thought he might have his happy ending with the series, but he did not. I felt the conclusion of the series was an ok; in my opinion, a lot was not disclosed and left the reader hanging with unanswered questions as the finale feels not complete. Yes, the plot was completed with the ending of the villain, but still, it feels incomplete. I absolutely enjoyed Markus Scott; he is intriguing and an interesting character. I am uncertain if I want to read the book regarding Markus. I believe the author only writes RH. In my opinion, Markus does not belong in an RH story; he is too dominant and does not inspire sharing qualities.
Of course, I always love Candace Wondrak's books, but this one had some issues that suspension of disbelief simply couldn't overcome. Be forewarned. Some of what I'm going to discuss could potentially be viewed as spoilers. When Jaz got arrested for Brittany's murder, it was said that they had Jaz's DNA at the crime scene, but that couldn't be possible. For one, most police departments have a two to eight month wait to get DNA back from the crime lab. Now, a rich place like Midpark would probably have rapid DNA tests which can spit out results in as little as two hours, but still, all that would do is give you the DNA sequence of whomever the sample belonged to, be it hair, blood, or some other biological material. It wouldn't, however, tell you whose DNA it was! They'd have to have something to compare it to, which would've taken a court order to get a sample from Jaz, which didn't happen. So, pray tell, how did they know it was Jaz's DNA? Sorry, but I just can't ignore that. It's a glaring hole in the plot of this book. Perhaps Candace should've brushed up on forensic science before writing this book. Or perhaps she was counting on her readers not knowing enough to realize the police couldn't possibly have typed and matched the DNA in under twenty-four hours without a sample of Jaz's DNA for comparison. Either way, I took away a star on the rating of this book for that debacle. Other than that, this series was my least favorite of all Candace's series. It won't stop from moving on to the next one, though, because I've fallen in love with the world and characters she's created!
I really liked this series and am so sad it's over! I think I'm addicted to this world Candace Wondrak created. It's twisted and hot and mysterious: my favourite combination.
Well, there's a lot of crazy stuff happening in this book. Lots of people showing up dead and all fingers seem to be pointing in Jaz's direction...is she a killer? What about her dudes? Are they the villains? It's a mystery and it's complicated. I think I'll have to step back in time and read some of Candace's other series' to gather some history. This world is vast.
I love the relationship between Jaz and her dudes. And their awkward relationship with each other. It's comedy. I'm such a sucker for love, though there weren't a lot of tender moments in this book, there was some spicy times and that made all the darkness a little more bearable. I only actively folded laundry as an escape once this time. Small mercies.
Anyway, if you like a dark mystery with your reverse harem books, you should read this. It was exciting and the characters were written so well. The storytelling was gripping. I loved it!
I absolutely loved diving back into the world of The Family with a whole new cast of characters and plenty of cameos. This series was one of my favorites. I loved all the characters, especially Ollie!! 😍😍 I need a spin off with that silver fox getting his long awaited happily ever after. This series, like all the others with deep ties to this world, was full of thrilling mysteries, murder, betrayal, and loads of steam.
There is a reading order that I would high suggest before this series. Sins is definitely must read prior to this series in my opinion. But if you want the full psycho experience, start with the Cruel Black Hearts series, then the Hillcrest series. The interwoven characters in this world was perfectly executed by the author and I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for this vast universe!!
I can not recommend this series enough...make that all of Candace’s books! They are all captivating and her stories easily sucks her readers in to a perfectly dramatic work of fiction.
I've enjoyed this series, really I have but this one didn't really rate that highly. Being a finale it should have gone out with a bang but it didn't. It was too long, slightly repetitive and unfortunately I'd figured out the killer straight away. The appearance of one did throw me briefly so that was good. Jaz fell into one of my pet hates - giving into their "connection" read hormones. I almost feel like Archer was squeezed back into the harem based on hormones and not any actual real feelings, and certainly no real remorse on his side. Hillcrest was fantastic but Midpark wasn't
I absolutely loved this series! I have no idea why this was the last series I picked up of Candace's!
Every character, every crossover and every twist and turn was perfect! I love that Jacob got his girl after being constantly shot on in Sins. Dante, what a wild card, who doesn't love someone as psychotically protective as him? Archer shocked me the most, I honestly did not see that coming in the first book! And then Vaughn, Vaughn just has my whole heart. I'm so sad this series is ended, I would love to meet Skull!
The Scott family are just my favourite band of psychos and I love having them all appear in so many series.
I should have just stopped with the first book. I figured out who did it well before the book was over but I wanted to see the reasoning behind it.
The reason was absolutely terrible. I'm sure this was planned out or something but it literally seemed like the author didn't know where she was headed and then threw it in.
I guess I've read other books by this author and I wasn't a fan of those either so I'm going to be skipping any further.
I was not a fan of the fmc.
I won't rate this series, mainly because it comes to personal preference and apparently I'm just not a big fan of the author's other works. So this is me bowing out.
So this is the final book in the series, loved the first two but this one dragged out a bit. Lots of sex scenes with the guys, and for me they were a bit gratuitous . Don't get me wrong, they were well written and hot, but didn't drive the plot. A lot more could have been made of the actual storyline and it wasn't until 80% of the book was read, I started to really get into it. I would still recommend this series as all the books are well written, but for me this third one has just dragged out a little.
Another great read by Candace Wondrak. I was sad to see it end, but like all good things... I enjoyed the characters in this latest trilogy featuring interconnecting characters from the Scott family, and the people who have dealings with the Scott family. This novel doesn't have to be read with any other titles to understand what is going on. It only has some characters that are featured in other novels. I enjoyed reading about Vaughn, and the other wild guys. This author is both entertaining and creatively dark in her tales.
It was an okay book. I figured out who was behind everything from the first book. I didn’t leave reviews on the other two books because I don’t do spoilers. It didn’t make a whole lot of sense, I mean, even Jaz didn’t get the logic, it was stretched that thin. For the “last” book, there didn’t seem to be any finality to it. It just feels unfinished. I’m guessing the author will do a new series about her meeting her dad. I didn’t like Jaz enough to read a whole new series about her. So, two and a half stars for this book alone, three for the series.
Ah, so many twists and turns that i so was not expecting. Candace really knows how to throw you in the depts of deception with her mad writing skills. Jaz is finally finding her place with her boys and learning to go get what she wants, unfortunately life around her is not so easy and the trickle of murders before has just become a flood and all fingers are pointing towards Jaz. This is an amazing read and i could not put this down.
Candace Wondrak once again spins a tale that makes me wonder what the hell. This was the third book in the series. I know it's supposed to be the last but I really hope she gives us a book where we get to meet daddy dearest. This book has so many twists that I couldn't stop thinking did that really happen?!? This is a RH series meaning our main character ends up with 3+ love interest and must be read in the order that was written.
I am obsessed with everything Midpark and Hillcrest. As Jaz's story lead on, I started putting it all together. Who could be the killer and what not. I had a gut feeling and I was right. I felt bad for Jaz and Ollie in the end but it was a bittersweet ending.
The guys are brilliant, moody and playful. I think I love Jacob and Vaughn the most. I'd also love to see Jaz meeting her father and the tale that comes with that
I enjoyed this series. Very few typos which is saying something with all the books I read, most have a ton. The story was interesting. The characters were very interesting. The twists and turns were really good and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the whole tale, but I would love to follow this crew through college and other endeavors. I can imagine Jaz in a basement surprisingly some Scotts.
I loved this series, but there is one thing that’s really bothering me since the series is now done: only one out of the four guys told her they loved her. She didn’t even say it back to him, but did say it to two of the others, to which they never said it back. That just really bothers me 🤷🏻♀️ For a happily ever after I need them all to at least say it once 😩 That’s why it’s a 4 stars instead of 5
Loved the ending to this story. Twisty and dark. Awesome characters and great story line. Candace thanks for the wild ride! Ballsy mfc and delicious guys, with a splash of cameos from some of her other memorable characters. Read all her connecting stories and let’s hope you never need a favor from Marcus Scott!!
I found out about this series from a Facebook post and I am so glad I read the series. I read this series in 3 days because I just could not put it down. This series has twists, turns and betrayal. I would love for there to be more books in this series because I feel that Jaz and her guys have more that they want to share with us.
Loved this series Jasmin is an amazing character, she appears to be kick ass heroine. It’s not surprising she attracts lots of attention from some dark, handsome and maybe dangerous guys. An also a bitch diva. I looked forward to all the drama to unfold because I can already sense some gritty secrets. An it didn’t disappoint what a epic climax
I don't know why the Scott family fascinates me so much but wow. I haven't read Stellar story yet but even though Marcus only makes small appearances in the books I have read, I really want to meet the woman who becomes his obsession. I would be such a wild ride I am sure.
I absolutely loved this series and didn't want it to end!!! The characters are easily some of my favorites out of this contemporary universe! Would be so happy to see more from these characters!!! That plot twist was wicked! Loving this shared world. Excellent writing with another easy favorite of mine!
This story was thrilling, sexy and full of surprises. I loved the varied characters and the mystery that ran through out the story. It was super hard to stop reading! Love the strong, fierce female lead and her loyal, loving guys. Can't wait for more from Candance Wondrak!
That's really my only problem with this book, is that I'm not ready for the story to be over. And I have more questions. I always do, in this world.... it may be one of my favorite bookworlds, as dark and twisted as it is. I am not ready for it to end like this!
these books were brilliant, yet again Candace delivers a dark and gritty story of love, lust, teenage angst and gore. i highly recommend you read the books of the other characters too. Im hoping we get to meet Skull somewhere in the not to distant future.
I absolutely love this author, she has a great knack for writing teenage angst and love. These stories are a murder mystery as well as a romance. I would love to hear Marcus story sometime.
Wow. Just wow. I did not see that coming! This book has so many twists and turns and dark and delicious nooks and corners! I won't give any spoilers so you will just have to read for yourself! You won't be disappointed!
