This is the first book of the Blood Ties: A Jason Wright series and follows Jason as he finds his life changing in an instant as he suddenly becomes a dad, after his promise to the father to look after his pregnant wife, ends in both their deaths, he believes at the hands of others. With his brother being killed and clues leaning towards two crime lords, his vow to leave his dangerous career behind, soon evaporates! He is determined to find out who was responsible for their deaths and due to his life as an assassin and hitman, he is ideally placed to do so. He has gotten himself into the middle of a gang war, between the two biggest drug cartels of the north and south.

Adriana has run from her past after her father called to say he was in hospital having a kidney transplant, but by the time she got to Atlanta, her pregnant and favoured sister and her father had died in a house explosion and her best friend Leia, had overheard conversation in the hospital about the transplant supposed to have gone to a crime lords daughter! To say he was after vengeance against her family is an understatement. Luckily Adriana had changed her last name some months before and left with Leia to start a new life. Jason Wright has the problem of looking after a mother, who left him in a dumper as soon as he was born! She has never wanted him in her life, but for some reason, Jason feels responsible for looking out for her, to try and keep her away from the sort of men she relies upon for drugs and who beat her badly daily. He pays for her keep, but sets her certain conditions, which she breaks all te time.

The story continues some six years later, as his ward, Miguel is at a posh school and he finds out that his son’s teacher has retired and he is unhappy with the young replacement teacher, Adriana Carballo, who has been hired in her place. Added to the problems is the fact that Miguel has become besotted with a girl called Sofia, who is in fact one of the crime lords daughter! He is also unhappy the former teacher ignored his orders, not to retire! Basically nobody ignores his orders, without facing dire consequences. Jason has hidden his past, but is still taking on contracts as a hitman, whilst having the cover of an investment company to cover his lifestyle. Sofia’s father, Angel Mercado, is one of these crime lords and is not one to cross. People from the rival gang are out to kill Angel and doing so at the school, ends up targeting Miguel and Sofia as well as Adriana.

Angel apparently knew the real identity of Adriana, who was known as Adriana Sousa, but he has not taken any action against her and it seems that everything Jason thought he knew about Angel and what he was responsible for in the past. Jason’s son Miguel is in danger as well as the girl he states he is going to marry, Sofia, who he has taken responsibility for looking after and taking care of whilst at school and then also at a secret play area they go, where they both should have been safe. The rival crime gang attack this place and the kids realise that one of Angel’s trusted men is on the other side and Miguel acts as a protector again, with Adriana ending up following them to a treehouse, when she finds they have disappeared to play, just when the attack starts.

Adriana places herself in danger to protect both of the children from her class and ends up taken by the attackers. Jason’s trusted employee Francis is also attacked by these men, but the children are covered up by Adriana, just outside of a safe room which they were unable to access, and are unseen by the attackers. Jason and Angel will now have to work together to get her back and to stop this war. Maybe the secrets behind who was responsible for the deaths of Jose Lopez and Deloris Charter, will finally be revealed. I look forward to reading the next book, Blood Secrets, to find out what happens to the main characters and especially the ever so protective young boy Miguel and the father figure Jason, who holds so many secrets of his own!

This book was a bit confusing for me at the start, as I tried to make sense of who Jose and Deloris were in connection with Jason Wright, never mind the talk of numerous lawyers hired to defend Jose. Once it got past that part and started up again years later as Deloris’s son Miguel, who Jason became the legal guardian of, is at elementary school and matters start to escalate, it was much easier to follow. Jason is a multi-millionaire and money is no issue for him. His hitman work earns him tens of millions with every hit and even his other business is a high earner. Some hits he turns down, but one for a hundred million, is going to make matters dangerous for his son and lots of others. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Mr. Jason Wright (Wright Accounting Solutions LLC.) got a call about his client José Lopez (Puerto Rican, inmate, Mercardo gang). He had committed suicide.
Brooklyn, NY. Longwood Apt. Jason went to visit with Deloris Charter (Puerto Rican, Jose’s lover, soon to be a mother). She would not be talking to him; Deloris was lying in her pool of blood in the bathtub.

Saint Rosaline’s Hospital. Somehow, Deloris was alive & was taken to ER/ICU. She was now pronounced braindead.
Dr. Hanson delivered the baby named Miguel Wright, & Deloris was taken off life support.
Miguel’s new dad is Jason.
1/1/2012, NYC, NY Peterson & Finch Law Firm. 2 security guards entered the office as Connie Wilson (former boss) fired Adriana Sousa (NYU; BA, daughter/sister).
When Adriana got home Frank Cummings (Adriana’s fiancé, NYU; JD) was banging the heck out of Beth Vans (roommate) in her room.
Adriana said goodbye to everyone/everything.

Sacred Loved Ones Assisted Living. Jason went to visit Patricia Wright Jason’s mother, former cocaine/heroin addict, paralyzed right side).
1/2/2012, Atlanta GA. U of Atlanta U & A Hospital. Adriana arrived & waited as Carlos Sousa (52, father, renal disease) received a kidney transplant.
Maria took Carlos back home after the operation.
Angel Mercado Mercado (drug cartel leader) was my newest client.
Miguel went to visit Sofia Mercado in the hospital, but the staff wouldn’t let him see her.
Stacy’s Marble Creamery. Ms. Adriana Sousa treated Miguel to his favorite kind of ice cream.
Sunnyside Hilldale Senior Resort. Maggie Sheffield called Jason.
Grady Medical Center. What did Jason find out from Dr. Louise Gaines?

Warning: This book contains descriptive accounts of extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material (rape, adult verbally, psychologically, emotionally physically & sexual abuse) which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive or have potential adverse psychological effects on the reader. If you are especially sensitive to this type of material, it is strongly advised not to read any further.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written crime thriller book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great crime thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

I don’t think you can read one of these book without the other series. Book 2 called Blood Secrets. This is not because they can’t be read as a stand-alone. Either one can be. But that’s not my point. My point is this character, Jason Wright. This is one of those few characters that pull you in and make you want to read more and more about their lives. Actually, no different than those few friends in your life. That’s what K.L. Lamar has done. Made you intimately care about a fictional character. Made them come alive. That’s good writing.

Both stories are well-written and not terribly unrealistic. Both will touch you with their family ties and will shock you with the ends a person will go to both for revenge and for love.

This, as well as Book 2 are both definite sit on the edge of your seat thrillers. In researching it looks to me like this may be a debut series for K. L. Lamar. Looks to me like we’d better hope for Book 3!

First time in reading this author but the story line drew me. Jason is a character like someone I did not think I would read but I did. Now he has a murder he wants to know who did it which I find ironic at first. As i get into this one I find a character that is developing right before my eyes which is exciting. Murder is murder and since it hits close to home you are close to Jason to see if he can uncover what he needs to know. Revelations are abound as he discovers some truths which this one can have you going in deep. This is one author I would read again.

Blood Ties: A Jason Wright Novel is an intriguing read.

The character of Jason Wright is intelligent, enigmatic, and a hitman who commands millions of dollars. His life is overturned when he becomes a father and then his brother is murdered. The storyline is well written and compelling, with violence, murder, cartels, danger, and intrigue.

I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

An intriguing start to what is sure to be a great series. The beginning was a bit confusing as you are learning who is who and their connections. But soon I was enthralled in Jason’s world with a gripping storyline full of danger, drama and plenty of action. If you are a fan of the latter then this is one you don’t want to miss. I look forward to the next book to find out more and what happens next.

This book was a fast-paced thriller that kept me engaged from beginning to end. My only complaint is cliffhanger ending, but that’s to be expected with most series. Recommend!
