Billionaires & Bodyguards #6

Fire Maidens: Scotland

Rate this book
Passion, hope, and forbidden desire…

Holly Jennings wasn’t planning on another trip to Scotland. And she certainly wasn’t planning on a trip down memory lane with the hot Highlander who broke her heart. But she’s never been much of a planner — more like a roll-with-the punches country gal. A good thing too, because “one last request” may not be the only thing a beloved mentor left her in his will. Before Holly knows it, she’s heading on a mysterious mission to a remote island — and straight into danger.

Dragon shifter Lachlan McKenney likes his life logical and organized — not turned upside down by the impulsive beauty he’s been trying to forget for years. Especially now that he’s busy guarding a ruthless archenemy who’s plotting to escape an island prison.

But Holly awakens every emotion Lachlan has been trained to resist: passion, hope, and forbidden desire. It seems there’s no outrunning fate, just as there’s no shirking duty. Against the odds, Lachlan must keep Holly safe on her mission to carry out a venerable old dragon’s last wishes. At the same time, he must resist temptation, because letting his focus slip could cost Holly her life — and unleash a deadly foe.

USA Today and Amazon best-selling author Anna Lowe loves putting the "hero" back into heroine and letting location ignite a passionate romance. She likes a heroine who is independent, intelligent, and imperfect — a woman who's doing just fine on her own. But give the heroine a good man (not to mention a chance to overcome her own inhibitions) and she'll never turn down the chance for adventure, nor shy away from danger.

On any given weekend, you might find her hiking in the mountains or hunched over her laptop, working on her latest story. Either way, the day will end with a chunk of dark chocolate and a good read.

Fire Maidens Scotland features another sexy ex Legionnaire in Lachlan McKenney and his fated mate, Holly Jennings from Wyoming. They met many years before through Trevor Stuart and are brought together again because of Trevor’s passing. When they were younger they fell in love but Holly was left heartbroken when Lachlan listened to his father and put honour and family tradition first and left her.
Now, Holly has the duty of caring for Trevor’s ashes and scattering them at two places dear to him. When the Guardians of Scotland learn this they appoint Lachlan as her bodyguard. It was a good thing too for Trevor also left a number of letters that required Holly to undertake a trip through Scotland that put Holly in danger and affected both her and Lachlan personally. Once again we meet Enzo Lombardi and know that this is not the last time that this family will interfere with Fire Maidens!
The story is filled with both action and romance as Lachlan comes to learn that all the achievements in the world are like ash without love.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This tells us of the romance between Holly and Lachlan and it has a slight difference…. Holly is already a shifter and knows all about the shifter world!

Ever since she was a little girl, Holly has had a mentor named Trevor who was a dragon shifter like her. He chanced upon her parent’s small distillery business, made a small investment in it and eventually became a member of the family whom Holly loved as an Uncle. As such, he taught Holly all she needed to know about being a dragon shifter and as he had his own distillery business in Scotland, she regularly visited Scotland which is where she first met Lachlan. She had interned at Trevor’s distillery for a summer and after a couple of weeks of intense flirting, the inevitable happened. Unfortunately, that is when Holly’s heart was broken by Lachlan who decided to put duty and honour before love and he left the next day to join the French Foreign Legion.

Holly has never forgiven him but I don’t think she really understood how much duty and honour was drummed into Lachlan by his father. As a consequence of that upbringing, he is reserved, stoic and has been regimental in the way he lives his life for the whole of his life. Holly, on the other hand, is a free spirit who likes to ‘wing’ her way through life whilst enjoying all the experiences she has along the way and it’s that polar opposite character that he perhaps fell in love with.

The book starts in Edinburgh. Trevor has passed away and his friends and distant relatives are convened in his solicitor’s office for the reading of the will. They are awaiting the arrival of Trevor’s ashes before the will can be read. Arriving late, which seems to be a habit of hers, Holly bursts into the room, with Trevor’s Urn much to the shock and surprise of Lachlan. The first reading starts and whilst some of the attendees are gifted bits and pieces of from Trevor’s possessions, the shock comes when he reveals he wants his ashes scattered in two places…. One of which is the island that the arch enemy and criminal Enzo Lombardi is being kept while the Guardians of Scotland decide what to do with him. Holly learns that Trevor wants her to scatter his ashes and some of Scotland’s Guardians who are present at the reading, decide that Lachlan should accompany her for her safety… something that neither Holly nor Lachlan are happy about.

Despite how much Holly loathes Lachlan for breaking her heart, she has too much love and respect for Trevor not to carry out his dying wishes so the following day, they embark on the mission, as detailed by Trevor, to carry out his wishes being accompanied by Mungo, Trevor’s beloved dog! It was on one of those many missions that Trevor has set out for them that they revisit the love they have for each other and it is also on one of those missions that Holly discovers she’s a Fire Maiden. I really enjoyed this book but if you want to really understand how each character fits in, the books should be read in order.

“Love is life. Love is the most powerful, enduring force. The most beautiful, whether that’s love for your mate, a child, or a comrade...Even in sorrow, love lives on. It supersedes time, borders, and even death. Love is the one thing you can never waste nor regret.”

Holly Jennings wasn’t planning a trip to Scotland. But when your mentor asks for ‘one last request’ in his will you do what is necessary, even if it means dealing with the hot dragon shifter that broke your heart.

This was a very good second chance, fated mates romance. Lachlan left Holly years ago because of his sense of duty to his family. Now he realizes how much he lost when he pushed her away. I really enjoyed watching grumpy and controlling Lachlan learning how to loosen up. Holly teaches him how to enjoy the world around him and that there is more to life than just duty.

Holly was a caring woman who lives her life spontaneously. She helps disabled and high risk children find their way in life. Now she is trying to fulfill the last wishes of her mentor, Trevor, which involve traveling around Scotland and visiting certain landmarks. I really liked Holly. She was just a great character with a pure soul but who could fight if she needed to.

I really enjoyed Holly and Lachlans relationship. They have a second chance and they aren’t wasting it. Overall, this was a great addition to the series and the continuation of the overarching story. I really am enjoying this fantastic world and can’t wait for the next book, which is Tony’s book. I am excited for another lion shifter story!

This book will make you want to visit Scotland, if you haven't already. This love story is one of second chances. Holly has come to Scotland to bring her mentor's ashes back to his homeland. Trevor had passed away while visiting her family in Wyoming and she missed him more every day. The last thing she expected when she arrived with Trevor's urn was to be told to stay for the reading of the will. (Well, maybe it was to see her mate Lachlan again after so many years, but that at least made sense). When it is announced that Trevor chose her to sprinkle his ashes at two of his homes, she is happy to take the chance to travel across Scotland and visit her favorite places. Why is everyone so determined that she not travel to Trevor's home on the island of Gleninnis?

Lachlan can't believe it when the woman he was forced to leave so many years ago, no, the mate he was forced to leave, shows up at the reading of Trevor's will. When she is determined to head off into danger by traveling to the one place in Scotland he doesn't want her, he knows he will be going along to protect her. The most dangerous dragon in Europe is being held on Gleninnis and no way is she going there without him. He only hopes he can resist his mate for the second time. He has a plan for his life and love is not part of it no matter what his dragon says. But destiny has plans of its own and she will not be denied.

I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

A simply splendid read, captivating and full of action
This was another absolutely wonderful addition to the serries of books, each of them seems to be better and better which is fairly impossible as everyone of them has been a fantastic read from start to finish,
Dragon shifters Lachlan and Holly have been given a very rare second chance in which they might find love with each other, Lachlan having once broken Holly’s heart when he had decided that choosing to serve in the military was of higher importance than their love and the life they could share together.
Ten years have passed and the two find themselves together and they are travelling with a joint purpose in a quest of kinds, they are travelling all over Scotland following the final dying words of a dear friend and neither of them would fail to carry out their last wish.
There are some very touching moments between the two as they start to once again find themselves and what they meant too each other, the storyline as always is simply wonderful and the characters are written with deep conviction and lots of heart.

Another simply wonderful read that you will not be able to put down once you begin reading.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

It was a pleasure to read this highly intriguing paranormal dragon shifter romance with a “second-chance” undertone. It is the sixth book in the series “Billionaires & Bodyguards” with some character crossovers but it can be read as a standalone although I would suggest reading the series to fully understand the underlying storyline. The plot is entertaining, well-written & full of suspense. The characters are interesting & unique with well-defined strong personalities.
There is: a young female dragon shifter (Holly Jennings) & a huge dog (Mungo) go on an unexpected trip to take the ashes of her mentor (Trevor) to Scotland& a blast from the past (Lachlan McKenney, who is also a dragon shifter) accompanies her naturally danger rears its ugly head, family issues, action, adventure, fated mates, various kinds of shifters, fire maidens, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, mystery, magic, secrets, danger, threats, enemies, devious plans, attacks, conflict, violence, memories, regrets, destiny, vulnerability, verbal confrontations, promises, manipulations, discovery, surprises, love, happiness, laughter, some steamy scenes & a hard-earned, well-deserved delightful ending. I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it.

Lachlan Mc Kinney is attending the reading of his friend Trevor's will and is sitting with the members of the family wondering why he is there. They seem to be waiting on someone and they could not start until that person came with the ashes, when she arrived I was shocked to see it was my mate Holly Jennings whom Trevor had taken under his wing after he went to Wyoming and spent several years there with Holly's family and then he brought her here to Scotland and she came every summer she could. But now she helps kids that would not be able to make a trip from America to anywhere if they didn't have the money and the intercity kids she worked with couldn't go anywhere so she helps put them in contact with companies where they can work and train to become the best they can be. Holly is convinced that she doesn't want Lachland back in her life he left her and she hasn't seen him in 10 years. Trevor sends them on a trip to several different places so that his ashes can be poured in each place, well he sends Holly but Lachlan would never let his mate go alone and especially to the island. I loved this storyline and the characters were fabulous. I was given an ARC as a gift from Bookfunnel without obligations. I am providing an honest review.

Book 6 in Billionaire and Bodyguards series Fire Maiden: Scotland by Anna Lowe. Lachlan is a dragon shifter and a previous member of the French foreign legion where he had met previous characters that had met and mated other fire maiden. Holly is a dragon shifter from America that became friends with Scottish royal dragon that died and asks Lachlan and holly to do his final wishes. I love that this book both main characters previously knew each other and have history already but also the main female character is already a shifter and has knowledge of the shifter world, about shifter council and fire maidens. Holly doesn’t know that she is a fire maiden and the story develops beautifully into it especially with her and Lachlan fulfilling her friends wishes. Would love to read more about the emotional unicorn Penelope, hopefully it’ll be soon. Absolutely awesome narration but the massively talented Kelsey Osborne. Like other book in series she doesn’t do much with the very different accents with I’m very thankful for. Instead of doing a awful Scottish accent she keep her own accent and changes her tone for each character which she does a lovely job. Can not wait for next in series.

Once again, the very talented Anna Lowe has outdone herself with this, Fire Maiden – Scotland.
Her characters are strong, yet not afraid to show their vulnerabilities, admit their mistakes, and give love and life, another shot. In this episode, we have the pleasure of following Lachlan and his beautiful mate, Holly. Their tale dates back a decade, where mistakes were made and hearts broken, but Fate has a funny way of operating, and has decided that now is the right time for these two to finally have their happy ever after, even if there are some who would go to any lengths to stop them. When the loss of a dear friend brings them back together, life just got a whole lot more exciting. The escapades these two find themselves involved in will keep you on the edge of your chair, and you just may not be able to put the book down, as trouble finds them in spades.
Definitely worth the read. If you haven’t read the previous episodes of Fire Maidens, I suggest you do, as each one brings forward past characters, even though they are all standalones. I have to say, I can’t wait for the next in the series.
I was gifted a copy of this book, and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.

📌Who REALLY is Trevor David Stuart of Creag Aerden, Scotland?
🔹️Holly Jennings is a Dragon Shifter from Wyoming, the USA she visited Trevor in the summer and he would come to Wyoming sometimes over the years teaching her many things. Trevor was a very good family friend. The last trip he died he had a letter addressed to Holly asking her to bring his ashes to Scotland where his lawyer read a part of his will asking Holly to spread his ashes in certain places. This was all very hard for Holly especially with her hot summer love affair, Lachlan McKenna a Dragon Shifter also showing up at the lawyer's office too. And now the Adventure begin

Holly was a girl from Wyoming, who happened to be a dragon shifter.

Lachlan was a dragon shifter who made his mind up about what his future was going to be like. No deviations of the plan will be needed, not by him. Until he met with Holly! He courted her for weeks then one night of passion surprised him fully. He was going off to the military the next day.
The will and testament was to be read, many were gathered around. They were waiting on someone, Lachlan thought. Holly stumbled into the lawyers office with the urn of Trevor.
Holly’s heart hammered as the lawyer slowly sliced through the wax seal on a thick envelope. But it wasn’t the will she was worried about. It was Lachlan. Dammit, what was he doing there? She remembered all to clearly what they shared that one night together. He was in Scotland again?
Holly was addressed by the lawyer, the room going silent. The lawyer nodded back and continued. “‘I task Miss Jennings with returning my ashes to my ancestral homeland.’” Dividing my ashes into two places. Letting the adventures begin. Lachlan can be her helpful guide, right? No problem.

Such a wonderful story!! Loving this series! In this book, dragon shifters Lachlan and Holly have a second chance at love with each other. Lachlan broke Holly’s heart when he chose his military duties over love because he’d been raised to think only of family duty. Now, 10 years later, they find themselves back together on a bit of a quest. A road trip of sorts around Scotland at the request of a deceased friend; this was all a very touching part of the story. Loved the premise for this one; the Scotland setting was so cool. Unfortunately, there’s dangers along the way. Some awesome action going on! Excellent chemistry between Holly and Lachlan; passionate and sweet. Love Holly’s outlook on life; her stop and smell the roses attitude; such a peaceful feeling when she engages her different senses to enjoy the things around her. Lachlan made bad choices in the past, but I still loved him. He’s a total sweetheart! This whole story was just so heart touching. Super excited for the next book!

Another interesting story in the Fire Maidens Series. This is an opposites attract/Fated Mate/second chance romance where Lachlan and Holly re-connect and eventually get their HEA – there is no fighting destiny! The story was a bit slow to start, and both characters were annoying at the beginning. So be patient while an oblivious airhead female and her stick-in-the mud Hero grow and change and get to know each other again, while on a danger-filled quest from her Mentor.

This author is gifted in taking the reader on a journey through wonderful geography and landscapes using visuals and fragrances, and giving a real sense of place - you feel like you have been on a mini-vacation in Scotland with Lachlan and Holly and Mungo the dog. My favourite part of this book were the Shifter, particularly Dragon fight scenes – they were heart pounding. There were also some fun cameos from previous Fire Maidens and Guardians. I am really looking forward to the next story in the series about Venice.

“Love was unnecessary, making a man reckless and blind”. “Duty and honor must come first”. That had been instilled in Lachlan McKenney's brain over and over again, distorting his ideas, affecting what could have been his happiness and even more so, filling him with regret. Holly Jennings hadn't forgotten how her heart had been broken, but she had a mission to accomplish and her heart seemed not to have lost hope. Danger was around the corner because a deadly enemy was in the way and the stakes were high. Something else was amiss but, what it was? I was absorbed in the descriptions and narrations an even my eyes got misted couple of times. Interesting the adventure in which Holly and Lachlan found what they had lost. Both had to face challenges to be able to work on their relationship and take steps forward. Ingenious how Trevor was calling the shots even from beyond. I loved Holly’s character, "a walking contradiction", that made me chuckled with her clumsy and agile ways. Action, suspense, amusing scenes, intrigue, mystery, betrayal, romance and passion.

Lachlan and Holly have a history that did not end well but are forced to work together when a dear friend dies and in his will he asks Holly to complete a set of instructions. Lachlan finds himself assigned to protect Holly on this dangerous last wish. The task they have to complete is not an easy one and could take some time to complete. Lachlan feels that honor and duty is all that life should be about and Holly believes love should also be important. They have a tough road ahead of them in more ways then one. Holly hopes they can rekindle the love they once felt for one another but the chemistry between them is not enough for Holly to sacrifice her heart a second time.

There were several mysteries to solve that you did not want to stop reading. The suspense kept you anxious to see what happens next. The story line had a great flow with marvelous characters. What a perfect ending to a great story. This is a fantastic series and I look forward to Tony's adventure in Venice.

Fire Maidens Scotland is book six in the Billionaires and Bodyguards series and it features Holly and Lachlan. This story is a different situation from the other books in the series in that Holly is a known dragon shifter and is well aware of her capabilities.

Holly is once again in Scotland, one of her favorite places, although not for a fun trip. She is there to spread ashes of her mentor, Trevor. But in order to do that, she has to be accompanied by her once loved, but lost, Lachlan. Neither are happy about it as they embark on a road trip doing Trevor's wishes spelled out in his last will. There are complications ahead!

This book has the right amount of intrigue, excitement, fun, and everything in between! I enjoyed how this second chance romance unfolded for Holly and Lachlan! Despite how things were left for these two, no amount of years has erased the hurt, nor the deep seeded love, they feel for one another. Fated mates for sure. I loved how the mystery unfolds as they complete Trevor's list of tasks! Holly and Lachlan were likeable characters and you could feel how bad Lachlan felt for leaving Holly so many years before. I am glad they were able to find their way back to each other-with a little bit of help from Trevor beyond the grave!! Mungo, Trevor's dog, also makes quite an impression! It also shows you how kind and caring Holly truly is down to her core!

This is a solid entry to the series and although I recommend reading all of the books in the series, this can certainly be read as a standalone. The next book takes us to Tony's story in Venice! I am very excited to read his romance!

I listened to this on audible first, here's my opinion.
Wow, OK I think Holly is my favourite female lead character. She's carefree, free spirited and feisty to boot. If you love women with sass who can truly handle themselves, then you're in for a treat with this book. Lachlan is a wonderful character, the stubborn duty driven hard headed male who has a hidden side. Then there's Tony, I love this character, who will be the main character in the next book. The storyline was really exciting, and some loose ends got tied up in this book. The plot had several surprises, and some returning characters. It was good to see those characters again, honestly this series is absolutely fantastic. The narrator did yet another amazing job of delivering an emotional and fun loving book. Anne Lowe really did a fabulous job with this series, travelling to different locations around the world. Each book has such a beautiful setting, and the description is as good as being there yourself. This is a feature I loved most about this series.

"I hope I have lived and loved well." Inspirational words that struck a cord in me, as a recurring theme throughout the book, reminding us of what we leave behind for those we love.

This book is definitely one of my favourites so far, with just the right amounts of emotion, adventure, action and love to make you sigh in satisfaction. It makes you believe in second chances, destiny and that love can truly conquer all.

Holly grew up surrounded by love while Lachlan was thrust into a duty-bound life believing that "love is for fools". Their adventure together is one of love, hope amd forgiveness as they say their final goodbyes to a lost loved one.

An emotional book that had me shedding a few tears, thinking about the meaning of love, life and even death. I have to thank Ms Lowe for yet another great, heartwarming book.

Holly Jennings didn't think she would ever visit Scotland again, but her dear friend and mentor has asked her to do one last thing when his will is read. Lachlan McKenney is a dragon shifter, and he has been asked to escort Holly on her journey across Scotland to honor Trevor Stuart's last request. Many years ago Lachlan and Jenny had a very brief fling that he waked away from in order to accomplish the goals he had set for himself. Jenny fell in love all those years ago, now she is determined to guard herself from even more heartbreak.

Wonderful, well written, and appealing characters who will do their best not to fall in love, but their old friend seems to be speaking to them through the letters he left. Exciting, action packed battles, unexpected twists in the plot, and a happily ever after, I think this is a must read. Fantastic!

I love Anna Lowe's Billionaires and Bodyguards series. These fire maidens are an amazing group of women that have come into their own and protect their city.

Holly is forced to go back to Scotland at the request of her beloved mentor's last request. She's dreading it because she's afraid to run into a past lover, Lachlan. Holly's their for the reading of the will when she sees Lachlan. The reading of the will doesn't go as smoothly as Holly hopes and she's off on an adventure as part of her mentor's last request. To make matters worse, Lachlan is going on this adventure with her. This adventure brings her to this remote island where this evil shifter is residing in prison. He's so dangerous that numerous shifters watch him non-stop.

This adventure is fun even though danger keeps lurking at every corner. Will Lachlan and Holly survive this adventure? Will they rekindle their lost love? Read to find out in this great addition to this series!

THRILLING - SUSPENSE & FIERY-PASSIONATE ROMANCE

“Fire Maidens Scotland” is a fast-paced, entertaining read with heart-pounding suspense, action, frightful danger, life-threatening issues, humor, unforeseen surprises, realistic scene descriptions, fiery, passionate romance and a fantastic happy forever.

A maze of emotions swirls through the hearts of Lachlan and Holly recalling their time together ten years ago. They are both in Scotland on a risky mission at the request of Holly’s mentor Trevor. Lachlan believes that committing to love will intrude with his duty, but destiny has other plans. Holly and Lachlan face a few glitches before attaining their happy forever.

Thrilling storyline with great character interaction and a convincing romance.  Holly is a feisty courageous heroine and the perfect match for logical Lachlan. Loving this tale, I voluntarily reviewed a pre-release copy via the author.

I love this story. Holly Jenning is the lead female character and lives in the USA when her mentor passes away on one of his visits to her home he leave her with bring his ashes back to Scotland and one last request. What's a girl to do? You can't pull that card and not do it . But she never thought she would have to make this mission with the one man that broke her heart, or that it would lead her to a remote island and danger. Is it to late to change travel plans? Lol Dragon shifter Lachlan McKenney meet his mate many years ago right as he was going into the French foreign legion . He had been raised duty came first. Not to trust in love. Beside she was better off without him. He left. There was no one else for him. At the reading of mentor's will he sees her again. Will duty win out again or Destiny? Lol got to read to find out! I love the woman who reads this, great voice. Pulls you in to the story and really keeps you involved in every page. Got the ebook too.

Brought back memories of my visit to the Highlands. :)
Yet another wonderful tale in this amazing series that is taking us all over the world.
This time it is Lachlan's journey to gaining his own Fire Maiden, though we soon learn, he has already met her in his youth.
Holly seems to burst back into his life and stirs so many feelings from their past. They start on a journey that Holly has been asked to undertake. Eventually bringing them both together along with many hiccups along the way. Have to say I wasn't keen on Natasha, but she finds her place in the end, just not as she had originally expected! :) The story has twists and turns with one bad dragon finally meeting his demise! Now we are left wondering who will be next, though I suspect a certain female dragon may come to play again!
Another great read on a brilliant sunny NZ afternoon. Thanks again, and I am voluntarily reviewing, an author, whose works I love and will continue to enjoy.

Seeing is believing

Holly's heard about dragons all her life fri3m her dad so the notion of dragon shifters isn't foreign. Unfortunately she thinks her dad is nuts. When she meets Lachlan it's lust at first sight for both of them. Being a dragon shifter, Lachlan quickly realizes it's more. Having witnessed the return of Fire Maidens elsewhere in Europe, the Guardians of Scotland are desperate to have their own and preferably one they control. Lachlan knows she's in danger and ordered to court her. When he tells Holly of dragons and danger, she fears he's a crazy as her dad but still sexy so humors him. With his heart and duty in conflict and dealing with his own insecurities about his mixed shifter heritage, Lachlan takes her to his home. When they are attacked Holly realizes it's all real. The trip home also reveals a hidden side to Lachlan. Another Fire Maiden takes her rightful place and finds her fated mate.

The Attraction of Opposites - Perhaps!!

Lachlan is serious and focuses on duty and order, and his time in the service. Holly is spontaneous and joyful – except for the time she had her heart broken. These two are back in Scotland fulfilling a last request of their mentor and godfather respectively. Ten years ago, they flirted and discovered they were mates. Yet after one night together Lachlan walked away.

I loved reading this story. While the quest is real and the danger imminent; the interplay of their inner dragons and fighting the undeniable attraction (and frustration toward each other) lends itself to some quite humorous situations.

The chemistry leaps off the page. One hundred percent entertaining, romantic and sigh-worthy.

Fantastic and lovely addition to this series.
I enjoyed travelling around Scotland with Holly, Lachlan and Mungo.
Not usually a fan of second chance romances but this one was superb.
Lachlan is a typical dour Scotsman at the start but I blame his father and Holly is his opposite. Bright, bubbly and full of life.
These two met years ago but Lachlan bowed to duty over love, breaking Holly’s heart.
With the help of Trevor and his quest, Lachlan finds what life is meant to be about.
Emotional due to the loss of someone dear, surprises and clarity come with each reading of a letter, harsh parental expectations and of course, we have a battle with the baddies.
Laughed and cringed when Holly put Mungo into the Austin.
Well done surprise when it was revealed who was behind the attacks.
This is my honest review of this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I LOVED Lachlan and Holly! Holly was nothing like what I was expecting her to be. She was refreshing and quite bohemian for a dragon. Lachlan was so uptight that he couldn’t see the forest for the trees! The death of someone near and dear to both of them is just what they needed to get them both on track. I wish that Trevor would have been in more books imparting his wisdom in some of the other Fire Maiden stories. Through his letters and requests, though, you felt as if you knew Trevor also. When I figured out who Trevor was, it made me love him that much more! There’s even a minor secondary character who isn’t as bad or irritating as I expected them to be. The appearance of other comrades of Lachlan and their Fire Maidens to embrace Holly made me very happy! I can’t wait for the next Fire Maiden story!

I so want to love this series. I think the fire maiden concept is creative and interesting. But I just am not finding much depth of character in these characters. They’re very formulaic between books. Lachlan and Holly are a cute couple who complement each other. They had one night together years ago before Lachlan left for the military. Now they have to go on an adventure across Scotland to honour the last wishes of their shared loved one Trevor. His letters lead Lachlan to wanting to try again with Holly and he’s a right marshmallow after that. There are attempts on Holly’s life and they have to go to Gleninnis where that Lombardi asshole is being kept. Big battle ensues. In the end it comes out that Trevor was her grandfather and she is a Fire Maiden through him. A guardian was responsible for the death threats for political reasons.

Fire Maidens Scotland is a great addition to this series. My favorite quote is "We live and love well."

In this book we have a second chance for fated mates Lachlan and Holly. Following the request of a family friend's last wish in his will upon his death, Holly begins a journey that answers questions she never knew to ask and the truth she never expected. Lachlan is tasked with being her protector on this journey where he struggles to fight the mating call and still continue his his duty to his country. Will he be able to walk away a second time from his mate out of obligation to his career? Why is duty to country more important than to protect his mate? Read to find out what happens when fate gives mates a second chance at happiness with a little help from a friend's last wish.
