Julia Palatine is a rare female alpha—smart, sexy, and with a will to match that of ambitious male alpha Roman Aventine. He wants her for his mate, but Julia has no time for entanglements with males of her kind, no matter how seductive. Her mission is to understand wolf shifter genetics so she can keep their existence a secret from the human scientific community. Julia forges an uneasy alliance with Roman, who plans to lure her away under the pretense of business so he can succeed in his ultimate goal of seducing her. They make a great team, but their attraction could prove a costly distraction, putting their lives and fate of their species in jeopardy.
The Legatum series continues with a battle of wills, seduction, and danger.
Bio-engineered to be the only redhead in a generation of blonds, Lulu feels that “aliens” may actually be the best answer for a lifetime of being asked, “Where did you get that red hair from?”
Lulu cannot ride a horse, hula hoop, or play roller derby (not from lack of trying), but she can make pictures. Encouraged to make those pictures out of words Lulu began writing just to see what would happen. Words happened, so many words.
Lulu embraces the crazy that comes with that one little genetic mutation and attempts to live up to the reputation of being a redhead.
Two loves, two families, two deeply rooted rivalries, one cause – protect.
Roman was wonderful as he stalked Julia and yet let her be independent and confident. I loved how strong Julia was and how she knew when to be a graceful business woman and when to be a spicy alpha woman. The story line and action was great, the main characters as well as the secondary characters were well developed. Having so much going on really kept you clued in to the everyday issues as well as the building romance. It was enjoyable to have a story that was enhanced by the romance and not a romance that was made into a story. There are a lot of threads and plenty of room for future storylines.
Minor spoilers included....
I did have a little issue with Julia’s ability to sense the really bad people versus people that just were off putting. But I’m going to blame that on the fact that she was also ignoring her feelings for Roman. The ending was just the topper to this family versus family rivalry. When Roman decided enough was enough and started telling the family secrets - you know you are going to not only want to read Driven, but also the next book.
Driven was the second in the Legatum series. However, it was a stand alone and I didn’t feel that I missed anything by not reading the first in the series.
I am a nerd, a geek, and I LOVE almost any story that incorporates science. What could be better than a story that takes place at a genetics conference? One that incorporates hot shifters and steamy romance! Julia is on a mission to get a handle on the unique and fascinating genetics of shifters and Roman keeps getting in the way. He's a seductive alpha, but he meets his match in this tough as nails alpha female. Battling their attraction soon takes a backseat to battling a new threat to these wolves and their species.
LOVE this series! A must read for fans of smart PNR!
Wow! “Driven” is the 2nd must read in the PNR series 'Legatum' with a unique storyline, smoking hot and interesting characters plus great descriptions with plenty of twists & turns, that will keep readers engaged! ... I was actually fortunate to be able to read this thru my Amazon KU, 3 month trial membership, so I can honestly recommend this to all Adult fans of fiction. I look forward to reading more from this author :D
I liked this story but found the genealogy stuff a bit much. It would have been a better story with less genealogy info. It just made he reading boring in my opinion he alpha father not seeing his sons mate for days was hilarious. Talk about dysfunctional!
Julia and Roman are perfect for each other. They are both strong Alphas and work as a team. Most of the time there is one alpha in the relationship but rarely two. They make it work and seem easy while doing it. Another good read.
Very fitting title.Julia was very driven in all that she did. When she meets her mate, she is driven in the opposite direction.Great story amazing characters. Can't wait to read the next book.
Most of the story was good and my review would have been higher but all that science and talk about DNA was to much. I understand it was necessary to the story but it was brought up to much.
This is the second book in the Legatum, wolf shifter series. We get a glimpse of the couple for this book (Julia and Roman) in book one, Protective.
I honestly really enjoyed the introduction to Julia and Roman's story and I thought they had a lot of great chemistry. Thier situation was realistic and had a lot of great natural tension.
There were some things Julia did that were a frustrating. For being a 'queen B Alpha' she doesn't pick up on what's happening around her very easily, like with the shifter from Canada, and not realizing the angle of the South African shifter Alpha.
While I've really enjoyed the stories in this series, this one wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad by any stretch of the means. It was still a great read, and the main couple had a lot going for them.
*This series is a medium/low spice paranormal romance with fated mates, a bit of the fluffy side!
