L.G. Capellan is a voracious researcher of digestive problems, with extensive experience and knowledge about gastritis and bile reflux. In 2013, he was diagnosed with chronic gastritis, acid reflux, and bile reflux—digestive problems that he suffered from for several years until he decided to take his health in his own hands and do things on his own.

He spent more than 5 years researching a solution to his chronic gastritis and bile reflux. This included dedicating thousands of hours to reading medical and scientific research, articles on blogs and websites, and gastritis success stories on online health forums. His deep research provided him with a new understanding of what he had to do, how, and in what order to heal his gastritis and digestive problems.

Now, through his Facebook group (The Gastritis Healing Group) and his book about gastritis, he helps other people who are going through the same situation he once went through, so that they can also get rid of gastritis and take back their health.

Easy, inspiring read with a lot of helpful information!
I read a digital version and also bought a physical copy for easier reference of the recipes and food data.
I can tell the writing of this was fueled by passion, although could maybe have benefited from a professional editor in some places, but the author truly cares and must have worked hard doing a ton of research.
There must be books out there written by doctors on the subject, but I think this is a perfect place to start to just learn the basics and begin to feel less overwhelmed.

Update: It's now been a year and my gastritis is healed 😊 Thanks especially to this book, plus patience, perseverance, and a lot of supplemental research online.

The Gastritis Healing Book offers a comprehensive guide for effectively managing gastritis and improving digestive health.

Gastritis is a widespread disease that affects about 34.7% of people in developed countries. This condition can seriously lower the quality of life for those who have it. It causes stomach lining inflammation and leads to discomfort, pain, and digestive issues, making it hard to live a normal life. Gastritis not only brings physical problems but also causes emotional and psychological stress due to dietary restrictions and lifestyle changes needed to manage it. So, it is a significant health issue, and we need effective ways to prevent, treat, and heal from it.

In this review, we will take a closer look at a book called The Gastritis Healing Book by L. G. Capellan. It is a guide that aims to help people dealing with gastritis. We will explore its insights, recommendations, and scientific foundations to assess its efficacy in offering relief and restoring a better quality of life.

Author’s background

L.G. Capellan, a dedicated researcher of digestive issues, possesses extensive knowledge and experience in gastritis and bile reflux.

Сhronic gastritis, acid reflux, and bile reflux had plagued him for years. Determined to regain his health, he spent over 5 years immersing himself in extensive research. This involved thousands of hours studying medical and scientific literature, online articles, and success stories from health forums. His deep research granted him fresh insights and a clear roadmap for addressing his gastritis and digestive issues.

What is the book about?

The Gastritis Healing Book by L.G. Capellan is a comprehensive guide that goes beyond addressing gastritis; it presents a holistic approach to healing the stomach through precise dietary, lifestyle, and habit adjustments.

This book is structured into three parts and covers the following topics:

• Understanding gastritis, including its types, causes, symptoms, and diagnostic methods.
• The challenges of treating gastritis, particularly in chronic cases.
• A three-step healing program that provides precise instructions on what foods to remove from or add to your diet, how to correct detrimental eating habits affecting your stomach lining, and the essential lifestyle changes needed to support stomach recovery.
• One-week meal plan and over 50 gluten-free and dairy-free recipes designed to be gastritis-friendly.

What sets this book apart is its reliance on scientific evidence rather than personal opinions. Throughout the text, superscript numbers link to citations of relevant studies and research sources, all of which are listed in the references at the book’s end for easy reference.

The Gastritis Healing Book is poised to be a valuable solution for individuals seeking relief and a path towards a happier, pain-free, and gastritis-free life.

Three key takeaways from The Gastritis Healing Book

The book offers a comprehensive strategy for addressing gastritis. In this review, we will explore the three fundamental components of a robust digestive system, which encompass the right dietary choices, adopting a healthy lifestyle, and stress management.

1. Change your diet

Changing your diet is the foundational step in healing gastritis. This process involves eliminating foods and beverages that irritate the stomach lining while incorporating items that combat inflammation and aid in stomach recovery. By eliminating acidic fruits, vegetables, condiments, sugary drinks, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, fatty foods, dairy products, and gluten from your diet, you reduce stomach irritation and inflammation.

On the flip side, it is essential to include specific categories of foods:

Foods with a pH higher than 5: papaya, melon, banana, dragon fruit, and black olives.
Antioxidant-rich foods: spinach, kale, broccoli, and green leafy vegetables, along with carrots, beets, squash, and sweet potatoes.
High-quality, protein-rich foods: fish, chicken, eggs, and plant-based proteins like pea protein and hemp protein.
Easy-to-digest foods: mashed potatoes, cream of rice, almond milk smoothies, steamed vegetables, homemade soups, and proteins without skin.

2. Change your habits

The book emphasises the importance of addressing bad habits and making essential lifestyle changes to aid in the recovery of gastritis. These changes include avoiding meal skipping, refraining from drinking excessive liquids during meals, avoiding lying down immediately after eating, quitting smoking, and steering clear of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Additionally, the book recommends consuming warm meals, chewing food thoroughly, reducing salt and sugar intake, incorporating regular exercise, and protecting the stomach lining with medications like sucralfate or natural alternatives like deglycyrrhized licorice (DGL). By embracing these adjustments and safeguarding the stomach lining, individuals can expedite their gastritis recovery process and reduce the likelihood of symptom recurrence.

3. Manage your stress

Stress and anxiety can hinder stomach recovery, and addressing these factors is paramount. Anxiety can manifest due to various reasons, including nutritional deficiencies, gut flora imbalances, and the discomfort or pain associated with gastritis. Identifying and treating these underlying causes is crucial. To combat anxiety, it is essential to address potential nutrient deficiencies, such as Vitamin D, magnesium, B vitamins, zinc, iron, and omega-3 fatty acids, as these can contribute to anxiety and depression.

Stress can exacerbate these deficiencies, particularly in individuals using antacid medications. Additionally, gut flora imbalances are common in gastritis patients and can also lead to anxiety and depression. To manage stress and anxiety effectively, it’s crucial to identify stressors in your life and change how you perceive and respond to them. Maintaining a positive and optimistic attitude is key. The book also explores natural supplements, such as Rhodiola rosea, that have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety levels. However, it’s essential to ensure you’re meeting your basic nutritional needs, as stress and anxiety can deplete essential vitamins and minerals.

Strengths and weaknesses, according to readers’ reviews

Strengths:
• Highly informative and research-based, making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in stomach inflammation and its treatment.
• Includes simple and helpful recipes, enhancing the practicality of the book’s advice.
• Written in accessible language, making complex medical concepts understandable for non-medical readers.

Weaknesses:
• Contains excessive detail, delving into extensive information about the digestive system that may overwhelm readers and seem unnecessary.
• Offers diet recommendations that can be confusing at times, such as conflicting advice on hydration and meal frequency, leaving readers uncertain about when to drink.

Best quotes from The Gastritis Healing Book

“Always try to choose chicken, turkey, or fish prepared on the grill, baked or steamed, and seasoned only with salt and non-irritating condiments. Vegetables should always be steamed, sauteed, or grilled, without vinegar, lemon, or other irritating dressings. Avoid fried, sauced, or breaded foods and sauces or stews made with unknown ingredients.”

“Some studies have shown that Rhodiola rosea helps treat both mild and moderate depression and generalized anxiety disorders. So, if you usually get very stressed or suffer from fatigue, depression, or anxiety, Rhodiola rosea is a natural alternative you should consider. The Rhodiola rosea supplement you choose must be standardized to contain at least 3% rosavins and 1% salidroside, which are the main components that confer the therapeutic benefits of this herb.”

“Although there are many types of anxiety, each with different causes, in terms of gastritis, the most common type is anxiety due to nutritional deficiencies, a gut flora imbalance, or pain and stomach discomfort caused by inflammation and irritation of the stomach lining.”

Final takeaway

The Gastritis Healing Book by L.G. Capellan is a highly informative and research-based guide that offers a comprehensive strategy for addressing gastritis and related digestive issues. It excels in simplifying complex medical concepts for non-medical readers, providing valuable insights into stomach inflammation and its treatment. The book offers a clear roadmap for healing gastritis through dietary adjustments, lifestyle changes, and stress management.

Overall, The Gastritis Healing Book is a valuable resource for individuals seeking relief and a path towards a happier, pain-free, and gastritis-free life. It is recommended for anyone interested in understanding and managing stomach inflammation effectively.

I can't really review this book yet because I haven't started on the diet yet, but I have read the book and it certainly is well researched. As a gastritis sufferer for many years, I'm hopeful this may finally bring relief to my nonstop (and seemingly unending) symptoms, but readers and fellow sufferers should know going in that what the book suggests isn't easy. It's likely to be a dramatic, top-to-bottom dietary change for you and it requires sticking with it for at least 90 days. But considering nothing else I've tried, from prescription medication to natural supplements to food eliminations has worked, I think this may be what's in order.

Will update this review later if the diet proves unsuccessful.

So, 2 years of consistent stress knocked me out, I've lost circa 6 kg and I've been going in and out of health care facilities.

Don't do stress kids.

Jokes aside, the book focuses on 3 major ways to heal -

1. Diet (90 days MINIMUM of pure torture)
2. Habits (No harsh exercise of any form, walks to help with digestion)
3. Mental Health (Stress Reduction)

The advice seems to be pretty standard, some of the items in the recipe area aren't recommended for everyone though, as your healing phase varies from one person to another - generally solid advice I'd say.

I'll update this review after I hopefully get better in 3-6 months perhaps, if you're reading this, I hope you'll heal too.

Thorough and comprehensive book on gastritis

The author obviously did incredibly thorough research. I have both gastritis and Gerd and have found very few books to address both issues. He provided meal plans as well as information on supplements. Excellent book for anyone suffering from gastritis

When I was officially diagnosed with gastritis, I was at a loss for what to do. But thankfully this book really helped me understand what I'm going through and provided a great amount of information and suggestions to help me heal my stomach. I think this is a fantastic resource for those suffering from gastritis and for those needing some guidance in their stomach healing journey.

Along with the acid watchers books, this one really helps especially if you think you are doing everything right for chronic gastritis and nothing seems to be working. Easy read with some good recipes. It's no masterpiece but is a great handbook for when you need it!

Extremely interesting read, with my favourite definitely being how much info there is about supplements and natural supplements; the table with all the food's pH is also very convenient. My only doubt about this book is the (as far as I know) lack of qualifications from the author.

Probably not relevant unless you have this very specific disease, but for those of us who do- a lifesaver! More helpful than any doctor I’ve been to (and I’ve been to so many at this point for this issue)…

Helpful book but be weary. Very cult like group - as if you can’t heal without it. People will join their group thinking it’s for free advice after their own diagnosis but everyone follows this book. You’ll be told to buy the book immediately. Reddit also has a lot of posts about their book 🫠
