Hawk Tanner is not a man of many words—especially if you’re a silly girl getting a silly tattoo in his shop. The owner of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio doesn’t want you to tip him with your phone number or flirty glances. He’s tired of all the wrong women wanting him for all the wrong reasons.

Drew Ashby has no time—for anything. As a recently-divorced single mother, her focus is on finding a job, caring for her daughter, and rebuilding some semblance of a life after hers was wrecked.

When Drew lands a job at Bird’s Eye, sparks don’t immediately fly. She can't deny the fact that her boss is a delicious specimen of a man. His tattoo-covered skin might even drive her wild, but his brooding presence and set jaw make him hard to read.

That is, until he drops the bad boy persona and starts making moves on her—kind and caring gestures she doesn't expect.

Things turn hot, and just when Drew thinks everything is finally going right, life does what it does best: It throws her a curveball from her past.

Bird’s Eye might not be the family Drew envisioned for herself, but ideals can change in a heartbeat. There’s no doubt Hawk is the man she wants, but can he step up and be the man she needs?

Week one:
The single mom leaves her 8-year-old daughter with a new co-worker for the night, to sex it up with her new boss.
Week two:
Has a sleepover at the boss’s house with her daughter in his living room.
Week 2.5:
She gets cold feet, and breaks up with boss.
Week three:
They get back together, he takes her on a shopping spree to IKEA. Buys her all new furniture, kitchen cookware, a brand new bedroom set for her daughter, with a new bed for her room as well, oh and a diamond necklace….did he also find this at IKEA?

This story was ridiculous.

Someone just give me a book that will at least keep me entertained enough to finish😭 I really tried this one, but man, this was just so boring 😩 MCs have no chemistry, heroine is kind of a dimwit too and a bit too much of a beggar for me. The hero could be funny at times, but I liked his relationship more with his dogs than the heroine😬 I hated the development of their relationship too. They hardly speak to each other, then they go out once and sleep together on the first date, in which she has no problem leaving her daughter for the night. They become gf/bf after the date, sleeps with him again, and doesn't have a problem flaunting the relationship to the daughter for a few days, then all of a sudden she freaks out a few days later saying she doesn't want them getting attached and breaks up with him for that. Little too late👍 it also had my pet peeve of the kid pushing the MCs together 🙄 so ya, made it half way, but I just can't force myself any further.

Single and divorced mom

Hero was recently in a 1 year relationship in which the ex shows up and he goes out with her and contemplates sleeping with her to get his dog back but he doesn't like her (after meeting heroine, before relationship)

Single mom, tattoo artist (shop owner) and a cute little kid. Hawk is my first Kat Savage book and I liked it a lot! The hero seemed rough around the edges but was a sweetheart. I’m looking forward to reading more from the other characters from the shop.

Kat Savage is a new to me author, but as soon as i saw that amazing cover and read the blurb i knew i had to read Hawk !
Because truth to be told i have a soft spot for tattoo artists 😌
But i didn't expect to fall so hard for this story 😍😍😍😍

There are all the elements that make great a romance: a single and strong mom with a shit ex husband, a sweet little girl, a "cold" tatto artist sexy AF, a wise best friend, and a family made by "mistfits" who protect each others.... and this very last thing is the one that i loved more 🖤🖤🖤

It's was funny, sweet and hot 🔥🔥 (with the best first kiss scene ever, and i still have goosebumps thinking about it), with some bump along the ride just to make things more interesting.

The flow goes so smothly, it's easy to read; the writing style simple but captivating.
The author made a great job with the construction of all the characters and i can't wait to read more stories about Men Bird's Eys family ( first of all Will 😏)

So bring me more Kat Savage' books 😌

When this book popped up on my Tiktok, I hesitated. I watched the author’s video multiple times as I debated with myself. Yes, the cover is awesome and caught my eye. And I went to look it up and see what it was about. It sounded amazing. It sounded like the exact type of book that I’ve been craving and devouring for a while now. And that’s where the debate came in. Should I request to be a reviewer? Would I have words? Do I dare take the chance?! So, I put my name down for a chance, and I got the book. I’m not going to lie, I was scared. I didn’t want to let anyone down, even myself. But I was in the position of looking for a new book. I had finished my previous book; I was trying to narrow down my options on what I wanted and then Hawk came along. It looked awesome. It was exactly what I was wanting. So I took a chance. I started it as soon as I got it and…it was fantastic.

I’ll admit, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t more of a slow burn. I was a little surprised at how quickly Drew and Hawk got together. However, with that said, I loved how Hawk was with Ava. Every time they were together, it was absolutely adorable. I also have to admit that it frustrated me that Drew pushed Hawk away twice. Especially the first time. I completely understand that she panicked and needed space and time to think, but she didn’t even say anything to Hawk about that. If she had told him her fears and anxiety, that break up time could have been avoided. Because there was never a time that Hawk gave any indication (in their extremely short time knowing each other and being together) that he would be ANYTHING like her ex.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved Hawk and I would love to know more about the other people from Bird’s Eye. I’m especially curious about Hawk’s brother!

I'm kinda in the middle here on my rating. I liked the book, but it felt like we didn't dig deep enough into the characters and the romance. I liked both H/h but a lot of the story felt rushed and thrown together. Not even the sexy times could get much interest from me. There was too much time spent with ex-drama for both H/h. Neither of them liked their exes, but they kept showing up and taking up page time. Why?

I like the idea of the book but not so much the execution. Would I recommend? If you like single mom (her daughter was a cutie), tattooed hottie (he was great), found family, then give it a try. But don't expect much depth.

2.5 rounded up.
I liked it but I did skim a fair bit through the middle when it gets a little slow and Drew lets her insecurities ride her.
Drew gets divorced by her lawyer husband without money or half the house or anything. AND the douche canoe actually doesn't want visitation rights with their daughter!
This was of course ridiculous and harder to believe than some of the PNR stuff I read. *roll my eyes*
Plus. where were her friends? Was there truly nobody in her life that she liked other than her daughter? How come she doesn't know why he's divorcing her? I mean it's not like you can get a divorce over night. And Lawyer husband or not, it would be EASY as pie to get another lawyer to represent her for free. I dunno. It's just lazy writing.

Anyways, gaping gaps in logic aside, she takes a job as the desk clerk for a tattoo parlour. Hawk is the non-communicative taciturn owner who pays more attention to her than she realizes. The manager is his childhood friend Will (Willette) who immediately becomes Drew's BFF (cause she's so good at making friends?).

Of course the Ex returns and causes unnecessary trouble. Nothing nefarious. It's not that kind of read. This is a quiet book about two people who wouldn't normally meet, falling in love.

I liked it but thought that some more background might have made it more interesting through those dull parts. Maybe some stories about the MC's histories instead of just giving us the bare bones?... Something...
Hawk was a wonderful H. Sexy and alpha, but capable of tenderness and a lot more observant than her ex.

Safety is good

I liked the writing for the most part and the epilogues were cute.

Well that was unexpected…unexpectedly sweet.
I am a sucker for the whole tattoo artist hero vibe….you know the type that’s broody, doesn’t talk much, insanely artistic, obviously sexy.. someone who has perfected “The smouldering eyes”.. You know what I’m talking about. Hawk is it. What is surprising is how sweet and thoughtful Hawk is…particularly with Ava, Drew’s daughter. Ava is another standout character.

The book, Hawk, made me swoon *Blissful sigh*
A definite page turner for SURE! Grab Hawk and read to your heart’s content.

Drew is newly divorced and in need of a job. She relocated after her ex decided he didn't love her anymore and didn't want to have anything to do with their child. She finds an opening at a tattoo shop close to her apartment and immediately falls in love with the people there. The owner is a little prickly, but that's not her problem.
As soon as Hawk sees Drew he knows he is done for. She has the eyes he's been dreaming about. He is prickly on the outside but such a softie on the inside. He immediately falls for her little girl too, so you know this is going to get messy.
I really loved this story of second chances. There was one point where I was a little mad at Kat and was like "Now you've done it..." but she totally redeemed herself. Hawk is such a fiercely protective man and when it comes to someone or something he loves he will do anything. I can't wait to read all the stories of everyone at the shop!

Hello new book boyfriend.
If you read this for nothing else, read it for the acknowledgments at the back. They are always frank and hilarious.
Okay, Hawk - the book is great. Quick chapters, humour sprinkled with bits of seriousness and romance. A kid who isn’t annoying or overly smart for her age and has her own interests and personality.
Hawk - the character is delicious. He’s tatted, he can cook and he’s like a Ferrero Rocher. Solid and a little nutty on the outside, smooth and sweet on the inside. He’s the guy you want to be there when the you know what hits the fan and the one who will take you on fun adventures. I loved his relationship with Ava was separate than that of her mom. He likes Ava as an individual.
Drew is more of a mystery than Hawk. She’s fresh off a divorce and a tad skittish. We don’t learn a lot about her interests or like before she moved into her Aunts flat, but she fits in well with the cast of characters at Birds Eye.
The peripheral characters are fantastic and I hope we see more of them.

This book gives me feelings of JM Stone’s Skin Deep series, which is one of my favourite series about tattooists and their family of friends.

While it wasn't the worst thing I've read, I must admit that it was all very juvenile, clunky and boring.
And I didn't like it.

First off, the characters were acting more like high school kids than adults.

The heroine is divorced, has an 8 yo daughter so I'm guessing she is somewhere in her mid to late 20s and yet her behaviour would suggest something of around middle school, her stupidity and lack of common sense are so astounding, you just shake your head like a wet dog.

Second off, the writing style is bad. Clunky, juvenile, focusing on unimportant details instead of what counts. Srsly, it was like reading one of those first drafts on wattpad.

What's more, all the characters were completely flat and bland. I think the author wanted them to be so colourful with their ink, hairdos etc, etc, she forgot to build up their personalities.

Because I gotta be honest, my cheese sandwich this morning had more character than all of them bunched together.
But again, I blame the shitty writing.

The heroine couldn't understand that someone (Hawk) could be a quiet person instead of running his gob every chance he gets because apparently for her this was the weirdest thing ever.
She decided that leaving her daughter alone in a stranger's house with a pitbull she'd never seen would be a brilliant idea.
And, like I already mentioned, the relationship between Hawk and Drew (the heroine) is just not there.

But again, the shitty writing.

Last but not least, there was no chemistry for me. It all was too superficial, held zero depth, was way too bland and too boring.

The synopsis did sound interesting and I think this story did have the potential to be a good read but, unfortunately, the execution just didn't follow through.

Hence the DHF and the rating.

This is a no angst romance where everyone is likeable and things move quick. I have no idea why this is marketed as a romantic comedy though. There wasn't anything particularly funny in this book. It was sweet, the sex was not super graphic and the side characters had some personality but didn't steal the show.

In the end, it was a basic, predictable, nice story.

WHAT IS LOVE?

I'm so happy that i took a chance on this book!!!
From the moment that I laid my eyes on this cover, I knew that I wanted it!!!
The blurb just sealed the deal and here we are...
The only sure thing is that Kat Savage has a way with the words... The story was floating so effortelessly and even though, you could characterize this story as a simple one, it was touching you in a deeper level!!!

"I don't know what's happening, how I got here, or what I'm feeling. I just know it feels good and right."

So, what are we having here???
A recently divorced single mother with an adorable daughter who is searching desperately for a way to provide for her child...
A sexy AF tattoo artist and owner of a tattoo parlor who is cold and distant from the very first moment...
Amazing secondary characters who can be characterized as 'misfits', but in reality is a weird form of a family...
An adorable talented child and two cute little monsters...
And an amazing storyline who started easygoing and simple, but that became so much more...

"Slowly, but surely, the walls seem to be lowering. I don't know what's on the other side, but there's a part of me that wants to find out."

Drew is landing a job as a receptionist on the "Bird's Eye" tattoo shop and she couldn't be more unfitting for this job with her slacks and no tattoos on sight!!! She can not deny from the very first moment that her boss, Hawk, is a very handsome and sexy man, but he is cold and kind of rude... So she believes that he hates her, until he is starting to make simple and small gestures toward her that is making her fall under his spell...

"I would have sworn to anyone five days ago that Hawk didn't have a heart. But now... Maybe there is something knocking around in the walls of that ribcage. Maybe it's small, maybe it's a little frozen. But I think it just might be in there -thawing."

Hawk is bored of clueless women with shitty taste in tattoos and lack of creativity on how to get under a man. He justs wants his peace and to be left alone...
And then Will, his best friend and co-owner of the shop, is hiring a beautiful woman with a child who couldn't be more out of place... But in a strange way, he is drown toward her and he is starting to like her child, even though he has a rule that no underaged is allowed inside the shop...
So, what is going to happen with these two???

"Drew is a conch shell. Small and delicate, unassuming on the outside. But if you listen closely, a whole world is crashing around on the inside."

I loved this story from the first page till the last one...
It got under my skin in a way and not only because of the romance part... There were too many things that were happening in here and I loved how the author had built this story...
She put me under her spell and I'm just craving more of this world...
All these people were in a way 'misfits' but they managed to built something far greater than just a job... They had created a family and i loved witnessing it, along with Hawk and Drew's story!!!

"Maybe they really are a family. And I'm part of it."

Yes, Hawk was kind of distant in the beginning, but he had proven himself in here over and over again... I just wish i had a Hawk in my life!!! Drew was a lucky woman!!!
As for Drew... She was drown to a shitty situation because she was betrayed by the man who swore to her 'til death do us apart' and still, she was a fighter and she managed so many things in here...
Her best decision was to step into the 'Bird's eye' and from that moment everything had changed for her and her daughter.

"This happiness, will it last? Or will it hurt worse because it feels so much bigger?"

I just loved this story!!!
I loved Hawk, Drew, Ava, Will, Avery and Hanson!!!
I just need more of them!!! All of them!!!
And I can not wait for Will and Derek's story which is next... I'm already so intrigued of what this story will be like with the sexy doctor with the hidden tattoos!!!
Thank you so much, Kat, for this amazing ride!!!

"Sometimes life is really strange. It doesn't work out the way you planned. It's not as clean cut as you thought it would be. Sometimes it gets a little messy. But sometimes it's better when it goes off script. Sometimes it gives you what you never knew you wanted."

I didn’t know I needed a book about a broody artist and owner of a tattoo shop in my life—but now that I have it, I need more.

Hawk is everything I expected it to be. And Hawk—well, how many ways can I say that he’s perfect? He is quiet but rock solid. He’s someone you want in your corner when things go wrong, and your biggest champion when things go right. How he loves Drew and treats little Ava just melted my heart. But I think my favourite part of the whole book is the relationship between mom and daughter. I’ve read other books where the whole plot is focused on the single parent and their struggling new romance, and their kid is like…just there, not really part of the story, only shows up every so often and had me wondering what’s the point of writing about a single parent if they’re clearly not doing any parenting whatsoever? But here, Ava is Drew’s whole world, she comes first, and it’s obvious that she’s part of every decision Drew makes throughout the story. That just make this book all the sweeter for me.

I love Hawk. I love this author. And I can’t wait for the rest of the Bird’s Eye series!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

5 Star Review of Hawk (Men of Bird’s Nest #1) by Kat Savage

Kat Savage is a new author to me and why I have not come across her books before, I have no idea. This is Hawk Tanner and Drew Ashby’s story and what a great read this was. Hawk is the owner of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio and Drew is hired to work there. She is a single mum with little time for herself, focused on getting her life back on an even keel.

The attraction between them builds until Hawk makes the first move and although Drew is attracted, she is cautious, until he he shows her that there is more to him than the brush and broody man he shows to his clients.

I fell hard for Hawk, he is totally swoon worthy and I loved him, particularly how he built a separate relationship with her daughter, Ava. Drew is a great character and I admired her strength and determination to succeed. I loved the build up in their relationship, but when Drew’s past comes back to haunt her, their blossoming relationship will be put to the test.

Will Hawk be the man she needs him to be or will their relationship crash and burn before it really has a chance to develop?

One click and find out.

So I loved this book! This story was a breath of fresh air! Lately I felt like I have been forcing myself to finish books, or just taking a long time to finish them. Not this book. I literally couldn’t put it down. I found myself invested in from the first page.

Drew us a newly single mom, desperate for any job, that could help pay the bills. She ends up getting a job at Hawks tattoo studio.

I loved Drew and Hawk! Drew is a strong and loving Mother. She would do anything for her daughter. She’s kind and relatable character. I never questioned the choices she had to make to protect Ava.

Hawk is probably one of my favorite Hero’s in a single mom trope. He really steps up... in a way I haven’t seen, in this specific trope. When you first meet him he’s, quiet and closed off. He bonds with Ava and those moments of him with her, melt my heart. I also loved the connection that Hawk has with Drew... he’s protective of her and respects her. The scenes of them together are so beautiful to watch. I loved the dynamic and how as I said Hawk steps up and comes into Drew and Ava’s lives at a time when that what they need.

I defiantly recommend this book, it’s an amazing love story... that will have you sucked into this world right away. You will be swooning for Hawk and Drew... your heart will melt for Hawk and Ava. This is probably one of my new single parent Romances.

This was my first book by Kat Savage and I will be diving into her back list as soon as I can.

Drew and her daughter have relocated to a new town for a fresh start. Drew has an incredible strength as she takes on being a newly single mom with complete determination to do everything she can for herself and her daughter which begins with finding a job.

Hawk is the owner of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio. He comes off as stone cold and impervious but it doesn’t take long to find out that the man behind that mask he wears has a heart of pure gold.

Hawk and Drew have an immediate spark and they both make judgements on one another during their first interaction but those judgements are quickly annihilated as they start to get to know one another.

Hawk went from indifferent bad boy to swoon worthy man. He and Drew were perfect for one another but when you add in his connection with Ava and how genuine he was in every interaction with her he made my ovaries weep. As much as it felt that Drew and Hawk were meant to be I had that same feeling with him and Ava like everything that happened in their lives had to happen so that the 3 of them could be a family.

I adored the whole crew of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio. A patchwork quilt of people who have been hurt by those that were supposed to love them the most and others who had been living a life with no family to call their own have become a part of dream Hawn created by wanting to own a business but more than that he wanted it to be a family business and that’s what all of those who work for him have become.

Hawk is an unputdownable blend of soul-stirring chemistry, witty banter, laughter, feels, and a group of people seemingly lost in the world finding one another and creating a family with unconditional love and support of one another.

I can’t wait to read more of the addicting world of Bird’s Eye Tattoo Studio.

I would like to introduce the world to my new book boyfriend, Hawk. Dibs infinity no take backs. That is it.

First of all, I really adore names that could be a boy or a girl for girls because I think they are cute and spunky... maybe I should legally change my name... I will save that thought for later.

Kat Savage has found her place in the novel writing world and I am here for it. Her ability to write a rom com that makes the reader never want to put down the story is just one of her amazing qualities and I hope that she never stops sharing her gifts with the world.

The family of Bird's Eye is one that I want to be a part of because they all look out for their own and they do so boldly. Once you are in, you are in and that is all there is to it. Any man that can see a small child and melt and then in an instant decide that they are going to do whatever they need to do to make said child smile is basically the best type of human and I want to know them.

I am so so so happy that Kat didn't not create an epic moment of failure where you get mad at a character and find yourself deciding whose team you are on. There was just enough reasonable angst that I was fully invested and needed more but not such a huge issue that I found myself thinking "umm yeah right they fixed that in a chapter..."

All I have to say is READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW (okay okay when it comes out....) because all of the characters are the ones that you're going to find yourself going back to visit time and time again (I am looking at you Will!)

Kat Savage is a new author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed reading Hawk and Drew’s story. Single mom troupes are one of my favorites and I was not disappointed. Hawk was very stand-offish at first, but then he transformed with each new page. Drew was the ultimate mom...she’d do anything for her little girl. This story is not without its drama though and at one point I wanted to toss my kindle. Ms Savage is a talented writer and I will definitely be picking up more of her books! 4.5⭐️

This was my first book by Kat Savage. It was an opposites-attract book. I haven't read a lot of these, so this was refreshing to read. Hawk was the type of guy people would look at and think he was a bad boy. But deep down he was really thoughtful and caring. He was really stand-offish at first. At one point, he complains about how they agreed to no females, other than Will, working at the tattoo shop. Why is this? We never really get the answer to this. Throughout the book, it's hard to not fall in love with Hawk. He's exactly what Drew and Ava need in their life.

Drew is coming off of a divorce from a real jerk and needs a job. While she doesn't fit the typical tattoo shop employee, it's within walking distance from her apartment and she really just needs a job. She is drawn to Hawk relatively quickly. And he wins over Ava without even really trying.

Overall this was a good book. I look forward to reading Will's book.

I have lost count of how many time mes I have read this book. It is by no means perfect, but it just hits all the right notes for me.

Very sweet.

This book shows that sometimes it is not about the family you're born with, but the family that you choose.
