Cowboy, a retired F-15E fighter pilot has a failing heart and is told he has only weeks to live. Knowing he will soon meet the Grim Reaper he develops tactics he eventually uses to escape a near death experience and continue living. He tells of the experiences he is faced with during an extended stay in the hospital and of his heart and kidney transplants. His truthful story is told in the language of a combat seasoned pilot using direct, to the point and colorful language.
I tried to read this book I received as a gift from a family member. I could not handle the author's ego nor the topics he was so cavalierly discussing. Here's an example, on religion: "basically there was nothing I liked about going to church. I didn't like to get dressed up in church clothes. Most of the men at church came across as pussies anyway, and I didn't want to be associated with them." Also, "It's like the writers of the Bible had a competition to see who could sell the biggest lie: virgin birth, walking on water, controlling weather, water to wine, feeding multitudes with a couple of fish and a scrap of bread, coming back from the dead. Seriously?" Well, seriously, this guy is such a prat I really couldn't care less about his being a fighter pilot, which is referred to ad nauseum, or his fight against the Grim Reaper. I just had to stop.
