Inara, sick of playing the pawn, has decided to up her game. But not all of her new decisions have been positive, and one misstep can have far reaching consequences. Will Inara play nicely, or bring down the entire family in her fury?

When you've already lost everything that matters...

Inara devoted more than two hundred years of her life to serving Alamecha. She gave up on her epic love. She lost her best friend. She protected her sisters, even as they stole her birthright. Her siblings made error after error, and Inara patiently cleaned up their mistakes.

Gambling over the future of the world isn't daunting.

But when a critical piece of the past comes to light, Inara realizes she sacrificed in vain. Now that she finally knows the truth, Inara is done playing janitor. She's never serving anyone else again. Inara will do whatever it takes to secure the throne for herself--even if that means destroying her mother's legacy.

Going into this book I wasn't sure how I would feel about a book from Inara's point of view. Let me just say, that this ended up being one of the best books in the series! I read most of it in one night, and because I just couldn't put it down, I ended up not going to sleep until 3 0'clock in the morning! Part of the reason for that is the fact that so many things are revealed in this book that I've been waiting for answers for. Another part is that I genuinely liked Inara for most of the book. And of course there is always the fact that Bridget Baker does such a good job at sucking me into her stories.

The scope of this book is huge. Many years are covered, and we get so much background on Inara and some of the other characters. I loved that about the book. I thought Inara's character was well developed and it made sense why she made all the choices she made, even if I didn't agree with all of them. I understood how she got from point A to point B in her life, and I had sympathy for her up to a point. My one little quibble is the insta-love thing that happens at one point in the book. I do need to add that I have since finished this series, and after reading the next book and learning more about how the berserker thing works and how certain feelings can happen for certain reasons, the insta-love made more sense, but at the time I read this I just didn't understand it, and I spent a good part of the book in disbelief. Despite that, I feel like overall this was an excellent book, and after finishing it I had to immediately start the next one!

Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of this book.

I am not sure if this book I love to hate or if I hate to love it. It kept me hooked but I wanted to shake Inara. I wanted to scream at Ammon. I wanted to hug Gideon and tell him to run away. And then I wanted to cry for characters who I didn’t much like in previous books. And then I wanted to tell Chancery that she needs to wake up and stop wishing away her position. Yikes, what a mess this family is. And yet, I can’t wait to read the next book. Certainly, it can’t be as bad as it sounds. Certainly there has to be some hope for our favorite characters. Certainly someone has to have a happy ever after when all we have seen so far is love triangles, tragedy, and heartbreak.
As always, I love the narrator of this book series.

I am Inara Alamecha daughter of Althuselah and Enora-this is who I am.

Book 6 in this brilliant Birthright Series is as good as any of the others, it continues to expand on who the various characters you read about in the previous books were and the plots that come forth keep you guessing right through to the last page, even then you want to continue reading this superb story line.

Inara is one of the older daughters of Enora and Althuselah and she is a very confused person .She wants the love between herself and parents, particularly her father, however, doubts always come forth on her thoughts and feelings. She is very conflicted over this and often actions and comments from Enora her mother fuel Inara's uncertainty's. Her mother Enora acts very differently to what Inara expects from a mother and the greater love and caring seems to come from her farther instead, meaning she grows closer to him during her growing up to adulthood. Her mother has always been a ruthless ruler, mainly promoted by the type of people Evians have become and always acted towards everybody, other Evians and humans. Enora has particular disregard for the human race so she does not really care what happens to them. This has also affected Inara's attitude towards them as she grows up amongst this attitude.

She is involved in many conflicts promoted by other people and in particular her mother who uses Inara to sought out problems for the families role as rulers. One day when Inara is outside training with her father to become a better fighter, they are challenged by a number of fighters from another ruler sent to cause some problems to the Alamecha Royal family by causing them grief through death. During this encounter something happens within Inara and she learns of a terrible secret she has and she is quite terrified by it through lack of any control she has over this affliction. The end result on this occasion was very welcome because it meant her and her father were safe, although, one serious event during this occasion was just avoided, meaning they were kept safe this time. However, the overall meaning had a very serious affect on her life, there was something near impossible to control that she had to learn how to if she was going to be able to continuing living her existing life in peace and in control with those she loved. Not doing this was beyond thinking about and it terrified her.

Inara was again sent on a mission by Enora to negotiate a peace deal with another rival family, but one of the personnel representing the other family she meets seems to be the absolute love of her life and is just so blown away by her feelings which are reciprocated by the other person too. The two of them find it hard to believe the feelings that have burst upon them and their minds are full of what the future holds for them together. Because of this persons status, Inara brings them back to her home as a refuge to meet the family and in particular mother Enora, daughters did not make a move of plans without her approval. Her intention was to seek mothers approval to possibly take this person as her consort, it was felt because of her age she should have been working towards this anyway, so Enora made known. Because of various events that kept arising Inaras intention to advise Enora of her wishes to name this person as her consort kept being delayed and this caused her much trepidation to making her wishes known. One day Enora dropped a bombshell on Inaras life and she was wiped out by this announcement. How could her loving mother do this to her and especially how could the love of her life do this to her.

Inara, being a strong person kept on with her life, but she had no joy or pleasure from it and as a result she became very unstable and her thoughts kept on being confused by her feelings for some family members, not always the kindest thoughts too, she was very bitter over her betrayal and as time passed she changed dramatically and became a deadly enemy unbeknown to many. She maintained her family image but only to really help her put her plans into action to get where she wanted to be, "Head of the World".

Inara becomes a person to fear and her guile is bought into the story by the author in a superb manner, there are numerous plots and strategies she adopts and these keep the interest and the What's Next thoughts flowing in a most interesting and arresting manner.

The continuing saga of the Alamecha family and the many ever arising conflicts keep a reader on edge as to what is going to happen next and the writer, B.E.B, has done an absolute superb job of keeping this story so interesting and the reader sought of can't read fast enough to see what's next. After so many books in this series to me the interest is still bubbling and I will miss not having such an exciting read to look forward to after reading the last book, no doubt B.B has plans to keep us busy.

I have written this review of my own accord without any incentive or enticement from any person or company.

Oh my goodness she has done it yet again. I just finished this book and am in shock. What a great book it has you hooked from the beginning and keeps you on your toes. I have read every single one of the books in the birthright series and they just keep getting better.
Inara is one tough woman who doesn't just take life laying down. I am in awe of the strength of the character and was falling more and more in love with her throughout the book. To stay true to one's path for 200 years and being the pawn without breaking is incredible. But sometimes enough is enough. Bridget E. Baker has a way with words that are incredible.
If you enjoy a book that will keep you entertained, that will make you question yourself, something that is intriguing but still entertaining even with some hardships this is the series for you. I don't want to give away anything but this is a must read not just for girls but boys as well. Do not take everything the way it has been given to you fight for what you believe and what you think is right. Make yourself be heard because you owe it to yourself. Bridget E. Baker is a must read and auto-buy in my eyes because no matter what she never disappoints.

This book was sooooooo long and unnecessarily so. I’m the type to finish a series once I start it, even if I hate where it’s going. I listened to this on 3x speed just to get through it.

Why does this author feel the need to make everyone in this book good? I really think this series would have been much better if Inara was actually evil. Instead, there are tons of plot holes and everyone is just trying to do the right thing. It makes no sense.

Melina would have been on Inara’s side to kill her mom and save Ammon. She’s supposed to be this kind, smart person that hates killing. Inara never would have killed Melina’s people if that were true. The author wanted her to be good and evil but that’s not a thing. She’s either good and has to do bad things when unavoidable or evil and doesn’t care. Not good until inconvenient. That would just be evil. Gah! I’m just so frustrated because I really liked the first 3 books in this series and then 4,5&6 have ruined EVERYTHING

😳 Oy!! This 6th book is from Inara's viewpoint. It covers quite a bit of history and several events mentioned in the earlier books in the series. It's really interesting the way perceptions and personal desires taint the way the story unravels.
So much more intrigue is revealed although the story has barely advanced forward from where it was at the end of book 5.... You just know so much more!
By the end of it I hate Inara and her selfishness and desire for Eamon. Dang girl, have some self-respect! She's betrayed everything essentially.

I don't think I've mentioned it before but the real covers are so much better than this lame cover displayed on good reads... 😒 What's the deal with that?!

I really love this series. I haven’t been disappointed in any of the books. This one started off as my least favorite and then it started connecting all the dots. I got so excited I just couldn’t put it down. I did feel like from the point Inara was on the beach with Chancery through the end of the book it was so rushed. It just plowed right through to the end so quickly. I know if it had been detailed out like the rest of the book it would have been soooo long, and maybe it will fill in gaps in the next book? I was still disappointed that it was so built up to just rush through it so quickly and then boom...it was done.

Couldn't put it down!

I don't like spoilers in reviews so I will try to avoid it here, but Inara -- GAH!! The books by Baker where we see the villains' perspective are usually my favorite. Maybe that's partly why I'm a social worker -- I rarely think that people are all bad and I understand self-destruction. Following Inara down her path was so painful. I loved meeting Althuselah as well and enjoyed how Baker intertwines the Evian story with actual historical events. So good!

Written from Inara's perspective. I definitely get how the book got it's name....wow.

So in this book, you find out who/what killed Enora, and why it happened in the way that it did. You find out the reasoning behind the issues when the twins were still in the womb and why mom was so weak.

This books wraps up a lot of the last mysteries in the book series which is great. I now really dislike Inara and the things she does in this book. The ending is a little karma for her but now I must read the last book to fully find out how the end goes and if the prophecy is fulfilled.

Just wow!

I could not put this book down. It gave me so many feels. I cried so much.

Inara has had such a twisted life and she’s about to crack. Everyone she loves get taken away from her. She’s always the go to sister, the one who supports, comforts, and encourages. However she gets little in return, only one tragedy after another.

I am very interested to see how this series turns out. There have been so many surprises along the way. Nothing is as it ever seems.

I don't know how she does it, but somehow, Ms Baker manages to make a thrilling and exciting story based on side characters. I have to say that out of them, Inara's was my favourite so far! Inara's story featured so many twists and turns, ones that shake you to the core and make you pause reading in disbelief (it's a good feeling btw, it is like an adrenaline rush and gets the heart pounding) I loved this 🥰

Wow… Inara… Just, wow… I did not see any of this coming. It’s heartbreaking on so many levels. As with the others, when you get the story from her point of view, so much makes sense. Having the benefit of knowing the future and a bit of the past, I know she is making so many irreparable bad decisions, but in the moment can see why she made them. Love makes you blind and it’s not always good. And Enora is really an awful mother until she gets to Chancery!

I enjoyed this story as an audiobook. It is narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya. This is part of the birthright series and must be read in order. It is a clean romantasy.
WOW is all I can truly say. This story revealed so much in the series and began to tie up so many loose ends. I truly was amazed at how well plotted out this series was to lead us here but Bridget did such a phenomenal job. This story is from Inara’s perspective.

I know I said the last book was my favorite but that was until I read this one. Oh my goodness was this amazing. It tied everything we've been wanting to know together. Wow...Inara...I am at a loss for words with her story and her decisions and what led her to make those decisions. This book was just simply amazing.

I really enjoyed this series, though it is most assuredly a YA. I gave the other books 4 stars, but this one earned 5. That is because this book did something that very few books can do. It surprised me. There was a plot twist that I did not see coming. I'm not going to give out any spoilers. I am simply amazed that I was blindsided by a plot twist in a YA novel.

I like it but it wasn’t my favourite from the series. I liked how it was in the point of view of Inara this time and how she grew up as she was about 150 years older than the others. I kind of predicted that it would be Gideon who survived and how she will be very disappointed in all that she did as she thought it was Eamon. There were a lot of deaths 😂

Well wow! Inara is a psycho. Great story, inara’s story. Maybe didn’t see all the twists and turns coming. Eamon was her true love first?!? This is setting up the last book perfectly I would guess, just hope Chancy picks the right partner and does the right things without so much wishy-washy-ness ☺️.

This one was my least favourite. While it tied up loose ends it seemed rushed and glossed over. I wasn’t expecting to not like the main character of the book but then I also wasn’t expecting this story. While I didn’t like Inara, I came to loath Eamon. He was a manipulative SOB who got what was coming to him.

I didn’t care much for Inara but I did enjoy her story. The answers I had at the beginning of the book ended up being answered by the end of it so I was happy enough in that regard EXCEPT her reasons for killing everyone.. I couldn’t get over that, and I couldn’t forgive her for everything she’d done even though arguably her heart was in the right place.

Amazing writing, storyline and backstory. Did not like Inara, so took a star off because I just couldn't like her even knowing her history. We are all given opportunities to make choices in life and I really don't like her choices and think she blames others for her own decisions. Clean story.

MC: looks at her boyfriend and thinks "god he's hot"
MC's mom: looks at a dude who's basically a child and says out loud "god he's hot"
MC: "wait what"
MC's mom: "I'm gonna go bang tf out of him"
MC: "WAIT WHAT"

This series is seriously a series of events that are only seen in soap operas.

I am so disappointed! I was expecting a lot more questions answered. Either this book should have been longer or in 2 parts or something. The first part of the book was decent enough for me, but after Eamon died, the story started sucking. Thank goodness there is only 1 book left to deal with.

I absolutely loved this series, it's a must read.
Epic interwoven stories with monumental twists and turns you don't see coming, desperation, love, trust, betrayal and fate keep the reader on edge.
I wish I could see it on screen, it would be a blockbuster.

Unrepentant, she really is..

This is a really difficult story to read. But you will see the unfolding of the life of this one individual. Inanra has a life that is stuck on one love but then love can be blamed for lots of things. And she does alot of things that are really bad.
