A NATIONAL BESTSELLER!

Trust in nature. Believe in balance. Eat the rainbow! Andrea Hannemann, aka Earthy Andy, presents a guide to plant-based eating that is simple, delicious, and fun.

INCLUDES A 30-DAY PLANT OVER PROCESSED CHALLENGE

Andrea Hannemann, known as Earthy Andy to her more than one million Instagram followers, believes that food is the fuel of life, and that consuming a nourishing, plant-based diet is the gateway to ultimate health. Andy’s mantra, “plant over processed,” embodies the way she eats and feeds her family of five in their home in Oahu, Hawaii.

But it wasn’t always this way. Andy was once addicted to sugar and convenience foods and suffering from a host of health issues that included IBS, Celiac disease, hypothyroidism, asthma, brain fog, and chronic fatigue. Fed up with spending time and money on specialists, supplements, and fad diets, she quit animal products and processed foods cold turkey, and embarked on a new way of eating that transformed her health and her body.

In Plant Over Processed, Andy invites readers to join her on a “30-Day Plant Over Processed Challenge” that will detox the body, followed by a long-term plan for going plant-based without giving up your favorite dishes. Packed with gorgeous photography and mouth-watering recipes—from smoothies and bliss bowls to plant-based comfort and decadent desserts—this life-changing guide takes you to the North Shore of Hawaii and back, showing you how easy it is to eat plant-based, wherever you are.

Beautiful book & so much more than just a cookbook, I love how Andy dives into her transition to plant-based eating & the thriving life she now leads as a result. This book also offers a great comprehensive approach to adopting a whole foods plant-based diet that isn’t overwhelming or complicated (or expensive!). I’ve had this book less than a week & have already tried several recipes because of how simple & accessible they are & loved them all (the caramel chewies & bomb hummus are going to be staples for us). I really enjoyed reading this cover-to-cover (including each recipe’s little blurb!) & this is a fantastic place to start if you’re new to plant-based eating or want to change up your current plant-based regime or want to add more plant-based meals & snacks to your routine. I’m personally inspired to amp up our consumption of raw, whole foods as a result of reading this.

This didn't really feel like a cookbook so much as pseudoscience pitch for nonsensical dieting habits. As I skimmed through the intro pages, I got an inkling that things were about to get wacky. She mentioned an 'eating challenge' and I tried to be open minded, but there was some strange cleanse drink recipe that she 'starts her day with' and she started to lose me. The eating challenge had some stuff that makes sense (whole foods, little to no sugar, etc), but there were weird reasons for no caffeine, meals with only one type of food (like literally just mango...for the whole meal). I kept flipping and got to the smoothie section which was larger than it should have been and didn't have anything I hadn't seen before. Like smoothie making was this magic art that she had invented and you'd never had a REAL smoothie until you'd made one of hers (they were nothing special, totally basic). Then I stumbled on the cleansing drink to rid yourself of toxins with the secret ingredient being activated charcoal and my eyes just about rolled out of my head. That's where she lost me. Everything after that was going to be a joke. But I kept flipping and none of the recipes struck me as original, or particularly appealing. The book was in high demand at the library, so I sent it back after taking pictures of a few recipes for breakfast bowls and her 'magic' cookies. If they're astoundingly good (I'm not holding my breath) then I'll update my review. Another thing that struck me as bizarre was her putting her recipes into categories of 'cooked plant based recipes', 'living plant based recipes' and 'predominantly living plant based recipes'. One of the recipes I think was for a caramel sauce (and I really wish I had taken a picture of that one) that was mostly coconut sugar and maybe like water or vanilla or something - that counted as predominantly living. In her clean eating challenge you needed to eat living food 80% of the day, sooooo....caramel sauce is clean living in that eating challenge? How does coconut sugar count as living? So many questions. Yes, I'm being snarky, but I couldn't take this book seriously. The recipes seemed an afterthought to selling some weird diet and Hawaiian real estate.

I was given this book as a Christmas present from a friend who worships all those Instagram people. I feel bad she wasted her money because there isn’t anything in this book that is worth the read. It’s uninspired, there is nothing exciting and I’ve seen it all before. The author comes across as try-hard and annoying. It’s just a no for me.

After following Andrea and her delicious cooking on Instagram for many years, I am beyond STOKED about this book. This cookbook quickly became a go-to in our household, we currently use it about 4-5 times a week and our picky eater approves. Plant Over Processed is also a fantastic introduction to plant-based diet, the recipes are nourishing, delicious and fun!

Thank you Andrea for sharing your magic !

This is a fantastic recipe book! I can't wait to try almost all of these! The ingredients aren't some crazy food that you can't get anywhere. It's a totally doable way of eating.

Some great simple ideas for delicious looking plant-based food, but not practical for my climate. This is still a beautiful cookbook to look through!

This book has absolutely beautiful pictures. There are some good recipes, but personally I returned the book . 1. The smoothies are too thick and too cold for me , I don’t like only fruit based smoothies! 2. There is a lot of information that I don’t agree with: food combining , wring raw till dinner, a lot of detox drinks that don’t work , etc.. u don’t like having book with false information like that. 3. Some recipes are too simple: banana peanut butter toasted: 4 rice cakes, 4 tablespoons peanut butter, 2 bananas. Also, some recipes are too sugary : 1 cup coconut sugar, 1 cup brown rice syrup for 12 bars. For healthy recipes and smoothies I recommend oh she glows everyday!

I’m…struggling with this one, but I feel like there are a few good things in here I might want to try, if I can get over my sour grapes about her living in Hawaii on the beach and just having that whole lifestyle. She’s very clear that you can eat like this anywhere, but then every picture is SO Hawaii it feels like a lie! It definitely won’t feel the same eating outside in our treeless back yard in Texas in 100 degree heat as I’m sure it does eating at a dining table that is literally IN THE OCEAN in the shade of a palm tree.

I’m going to try to give it more of a chance, though.

As someone who, along with my family, are switching to plant based (before reading this), this cookbook was great. Lots of good recipes, inspiring and an author who isn't preachy and pushing 100% perfect. The goal through it all is more plants in your diet not perfection, anyone can benefit from this; not just planted based or vegans.

I have been eagerly waiting for this book to arrive for weeks! And it was well worth the read. Andrea Hannemann shares some great insight into why she changed her nutrition and the effect it has had. The recipes are easy to recreate, even when you live in Germany and not in sunny Hawaii, and they are all down to Earth. The only small issue I have with the book is that I wish there were more main dish recipes. Other than that, I cannot recommend this book enough! I have already cooked some recipes from it and am doing her 30 Day challenge in March! Highly recommend for anyone who wishes to try a Plant over Processed diet!

Good book. Good food. The pinnacles of life

I bought this last night after creeping on Instagram. I made the golden milk latte tonight and it's just amazing. I bought foods for a few other recipes that sounded good. Overall the recipes are simple but look really good. I don't have to go to a specialty store for anything. What I like the most is the ability to put the reader at ease, that the writer has.

Are you looking for a cookbook packed with beautifully photographed and healthy recipes? If so, this is a must-read. This new cookbook is packed not only with fully-photographed healthy recipes, but it also delves into the author's journey to a plant-based lifestyle as well as general information on a plant-based lifestyle and the benefits of it. Included in the cookbook is also a 30-Day Plant Over Processed Challenged, for anyone wanting to try the transition.

I really enjoyed looking through this cookbook and am excited to try quite a few recipes from it, including cookies and cream vanilla ice cream (no ice cream maker required!) and the raw chocolate mouse cake (can you tell I have a sweet tooth?)

This was ok- just a little too ambitious.

I'm going to be honest.
This was interesting, but other than some soups, there was very little I'd actually try in this book. I'm not a chia seed soaking, make my own almond milk, DIY nut butter, blend together various fruits to make elaborately decorated cold baby food (aka smoothie bowl) kind of vegetarian.
I make things that I crave and add in vegetarian substitutions as I go.
I tweak recipes from my childhood and make healthier versions of them.
I wouldn't say the author's ideas are borderline disordered eating, but I wouldn't say aren't either lol
But this gave me some interesting healthy summery dish ideas- which is all I was really looking for. I'd love to know if these people ever wear sunscreen though. Picture after staged picture of them all kind of made me low-key cringe after awhile but what do I know? Maybe UV rays aren't radioactive, or toxic, or something you should limit your exposure to, as long as you're eating smoothies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

I assumed this was primarily a cookbook but the first 40 pages of the book are about detoxing and pseudo science about combining foods. It encourages drinking lemon maple cayenne water, which I thought was a fad we were over.

I skimmed it, but i can confidently say I don't recommend you follow this advice. If your diet has you feeling sluggish and having headaches and encourages you to eat a large meal of one fruit only as a "mono meal" then it's bullshit. Fake. No scientific backing.

Edit: just got to some recipes

DO NOT drink activated charcoal. Activated charcoal can negate the effect of your medications if consumed, including birth control. It is actually for detoxing literal poison from your body, not the made up bullshit. Do not consume activated charcoal unless medically necessary

A beautiful book that clearly defines the difference between based and vegan life styles.

Andy Hannemann, author of “Plant Over Processed” is a well known health & wellness influencer and is also “Earthy Andy” of the hugely successful Instagram blog. Andy’s approach to food and that gut health is the key to all health was born out of serious medical issues that restricted her life and negatively impacted her family. After the medical community gave her years of unsatisfactory results, Andy took matters into her own hands and “intuition” and the “Plant Over Processed” program was begun. Important to note, she did and does continue to maintain appropriate medical care.

The book begins with a short bio about Andy, her health issues and the beginnings of plant based eating. She moves on to a chapter about THE POWER OF PLANTS - detailing the science of plants. It’s also here Andy shares the difference between Vegan Lifestyle & Plant Based Lifestyle, it’s very interesting. Chapter 2 is: 30 DAY PLANT OVER PROCESSED CHALLENGE - all the rules and details of the challenge are spelled out.

Chapter 3 is: EATING THE RAINBOW - this entire lengthy chapter is all of Andy’s recipes. They are laid out simply and are easy to follow. The ingredients are easy to source in most places, I think, and not overly expensive. There are ways to substitute ingredients for both taste and availability. For example, I dislike bananas - a smoothie staple! But, mangoes or peaches make good substitutes and she mentions both of them! There are great pictures to go with almost every recipe so you can see what you’re supposed to end up with. The only information provided with the recipes, (besides ingredients and directions), is yield/servings. There’s no nutritional breakdown and it’s for this reason that I’ve rated the book 4/5 ⭐️ IMO, a health based book should include basic nutritional information.

All of the recipes are grouped by category into sub-chapters from smoothies thru desserts. Also included are salads, soups, sauces, snacks, curries, lunches, dinners, breakfasts, hot drinks, and more. The smoothies and desserts look particularly good as do a few of the soups. I’m looking forward to trying a few of them very soon!

Chapter 4, A WHOLE NEW WAY OF LIVING - is a brief look at how this way of eating is better for the earth, how it effects the carbon footprint, ways to reduce yours on a daily basis and other similar hot topics. Andy adds a few closing remarks and the book ends with an index that is NOT interactive in the Kindle edition.

Professionally photographed, edited and published, “Plant Over Processed” is easy to read and look at, moderate to difficult to institute fully but a 30 day investment at some level would be an huge benefit for most of us📚

I came across this from a promotion through "Coconut Bowls", pointing to her Instagram. This is a health & wellness influencer, a fraud, a hustler, and to be avoided. She's taking advantage of the stressed, sick, and anxious people. But of course, these Instagram wellness influencers are happy to sell you some bullshit in order to line their pockets, so they don't have to work a crap job like you.

Maybe ask why you're sick. Step 1: really look at what you eat. Are you following myplate.gov recommendations or Canada’s Dietary Guidelines? Are you eating carbs, protein, and fats as part of your regular diet? I doubt it. Print out these PDFs (it's like $10 each on lulu.com), and really follow them.

https://www.dietaryguidelines.gov/sit...

https://food-guide.canada.ca/sites/de...

The American diet is basically the opposite of what it should be. Most people who think they're eating healthy are still eating like trash, and are not actually following recommendations. Supplements WILL NOT overcome a terrible diet. For nearly everyone, all you might need is a Vitamin D supplement. That's it. You'll have to figure out how to make these guidelines work for you (this is the hard part & it's why we need socialized food & socialized medicine). For people who feel sick, there's usually some obvious massive lack in their diet, for example, if they're not eating enough omega-3, calcium, or protein. Or they're eating loads of free sugars & processed white flour. The solution should be something easy, not some bullshit diet pill or plan.

Step 2: stress. Much of this is due to the economy & the American way-of-life. You notice how some of these influencers have multiple children and seem to have endless free time? Yeah, that's a fantasy for nearly everyone. You're better off having no children. Even if you have a crap job (as many people do), it'll be better without kids, because of the stress involved. If you're working in an Amazon warehouse and are trying to raise multiple kids, you'll probably be stressed & there's nothing you can do about it. You'll have enough time & money not only to eat properly, but also to pursue things for your own development.

Step 3: avoid consumerism & the need to keep up. So much of our country is about copying other people. It's easier said than done, but try to see through the stupidity of all the advertising, Hollywood, influencers, fashion, make-up, and all the other trash. This one is enormous, and it's pushed on people from birth to death. If someone is pushing diet pills, asking for Patreon donations, or wants to talk AT YOU daily on TikTok or Youtube, AVOID THEM!

I really believe this is the best cookbook one can purchase for a variety of reasons. She highlights the importance of striving to eat healthy over categorizing people with labels such as vegetarian vs. not. It is all about incorporating plants into your diet and trying your best rather than being the healthiest version of yourself every second of every day. She provides the resources necessary to begin eating "plant over-processed" and shares the relatable steps she took to do so. The book has a diverse set of recipes with pictures and lots of substitutions if you don't have exactly what you need. Some of the recipes are ingredients from my pantry I never thought I would use. Her book is unique because she takes you through the relatable journey she experienced to get herself where she is today and it is super inspiring. The book encourages you to eat "plant over-processed" for 30 days. This is much more than a cookbook. It is a guide that will help you blossom into a healthier version of yourself. She lists a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and snack!!) recipes for you to choose from during those 30 days and gives her advice on what to add to your meals (a simple green juice) in the morning. On top of her super inspiring story, there are a plethora of healthy recipes that LOOK AND TASTE amazing. I am excited to incorporate the healthy and sustainable lifestyle resources Andy provided into my everyday life. For the first time in a while, I am able to eat breakfast and stay full and energized throughout the day. This book is 1000/10 and it is worth the buy.

This book is very aspirational for me. My body feels good eating this kind of food and most of the dishes I have tried in this book are good to great.

One of my favorite recipes in here is the granola. It is simply amazing. I wish she put a variation with peanut butter as an alternative but this recipe is amazing. I took out some oats and added nuts for more healthy fats.

The Bali Earth bowl - overall I liked it but I felt like the sauce did not match the bowl flavor wise. I wasn’t a huge fan of this sauce.

shawarma bowl- I loved this bowl a lot. It was amazing.

shepherds pie- baked it was a little too dry for me. Also I would halve this recipe unless you are a family of 4. It’s too big for one person. It says serves 6 but for me it felt like serves 8. Just generally her recipes are large to I recommend halving recipes to try them.

I mainly give this 4 stars because everything feels very fresh and healthy. My body felt good eating the food and I am continuing to sample recipes from this book. There isn’t a single thing in this book I thought was bad. Definitely recommend this book for vegans who like healthier recipes.

This book is fun! Surfer minimalist family lifestyle on a budget: we can relate to most of the family lifestyle, gut health nutrition, or simplier life desires. Whatever your approach to food, this book has yummy recipes even a strict carnivore would love. Paleo/Pegan? You'll find some good vibes here. If you have ever had digestive or health reasons to try various diets this book will have information, inspiration, and recipes to add to your arsenal. No "you hafta follow this protocol" or "if you don't do this" in here. Hannemann offers clean inspiration on fresh plant based options that, frankly, I dreamed about for weeks. I checked this out at my local library and I may need to check it out again. Craving some dragon fruit smoothies right now with plant based protein, greens, and probiotics--super yum. The recipes are templates you can easily adjust to your health goals and tastes.

I picked up this book from the library with the intention of cooking a couple dishes out of in a week. I ended up making the Beach Bum Chili, the Bali Earth Bowl, the Bluebana Smoothie, and the Red Coconut Curry.

This is a vegetarian cookbook, which is outside what I normally cook. All of the meals I cooked were substantial without meat.

My biggest negative on the book though is that I felt everything was undersalted. The flavors in the chili popped when I added more salt. The coconut curry definitely needed more salt than called for too to make the flavors powerful. While I am not the biggest salter, too little salt makes the other flavors get lost.

It was fun to cook out of, but not one I would choose to own.

A cookbook full of delicious, easy recipes with absolutely no guilt attached. I can relate to Andrea's experiences with her kids and her own health. I am just a mom that's tired of the extensive list of additives in pretty much everything - except in natural, whole foods.

These recipes are so easy I am confident I can make every single one, and plan to do so. Not only has everyone in my family picked what recipes they want me to make, but I showed extended family members the book and everyone shares my excitement.

I am so thankful for this physical book and recipes to provide new, healthy alternatives for myself and my family. I do not have social media accounts and wouldn't have known or seen these recipes otherwise.

Absolutely beautiful photography and messaging; no judgement to completely remove animal by/products, just supporting information as to why it’s reduction or removal is healthier for you and the Earth. I stopped eating meat one year ago but struggled with the complete transition to plant based. This book has helped me tremendously; in one weeks time I’ve completely revamped my morning/breakfast routine from dairy products to a digestive homemade tea and smoothie - and I can honestly say I look forward to them both! Highly recommend this recipe book for all - carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans.
