The Little History of Somerset

Rate this book
More than 400 million years ago, the oldest rocks in Somerset were formed. On those rocks, a county was built over thousands of years; from prehistoric man and Roman invasion, through a Pitchfork Rebellion and two world wars to where we are today. Revolution, wassailing, Templars and alchemists – all can be found in this friendly guide to Somerset's colourful history.

Well, this book is what it says, the history of Somerset small chunks. Of course, a lot of it is just a small part of the "bigger scheme", but it is still interesting. However, I did miss a map of Somerset! Anyhow, it is the perfect book to have by your bd, to read a few pages each night.

A great starting point for finding out a brief introduction to various interesting facts about the history of my home country! It isn't comprehensive but it's not trying to be, it's made for dipping into and I've learnt a fair few facts about the place I grew up and where I call home!

This book is a nice gentle read, doesn't really go into much detail but briefly covers a lot of topics about the history of Somerset. I think this is a perfect book for the coffee table, you can read snippets and put it back down
