The Derry Women Are Addictive

I’ve read the entire series and if there are ever no more I’m doing something drastic! They are hilarious, sad, pathetic, wonderful, and I can actually see people I’ve know. Which scares the hell out of me and makes me really question the sort of people I’ve run around with in my life - but what fun we’ve had! You’ve got to read this series and come to know the Derry women!!!!!!

Hurray for another Hansen classic! I cannot get enough of the characters in his novels—they never ever disappoint. And the humor is alway on point! This one is a great throw back to Ursula and Finnoula’s younger years :)

I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is a voluntary and honest review.

This novella/short story covers less than 70 pages. I must admit that I really dislike short story books. You're just getting into 'the rhythm' of the story, then thump!, you're on the last page. Infuriates me.

This book, however, didn't have the same effect on me. The story covers the character, Fionnuala, in both the hilarious circumstances of her first childbirth and the emotions involved. The author doesn't distract the reader via any other characters or activities. As a result, I honestly, don't believe that the story should be any longer/shorter than it is. I don't think it would be justice to 'knock off' any stars in the rating because it is a short story, it's a plain funny story.

Recommend this novella plus, of course, the rest of the series.

Ireland

This story is about a woman in Ireland giving birth during a bomb threat at a small hospital while her family is drinking at a nearby pub. It was rather unbelievable as she gave birth in the parking lot while hooligans pelted the hospital with rocks a d fire bombs. This was a short story that is part of a series called Derry Women.
