THE FIRST SIGNS that I might like writing -- and that I might be slightly competitive -- appeared when my year two (or first grade) teacher, Mrs. Holland, asked my class to write and illustrate our day. Mine read like this: “The Red team beat the Blue team, 1 to nil. And I won.” The next 47 entries covered my exploits on the soccer pitch while growing up in Ipswich, England.
In South Carolina as a teenager, my dad told me that I could get paid to watch sports provided I could write about it. Sounded easy enough and by the time I was 16, I landed a job at my town’s daily newspaper and had a column on Major League Baseball players from our area. I also covered my first riot there at a sporting event -- and it’s safe to say I was smitten with journalism.
After graduating from one of the best journalism schools in the country, I took a job as a sports editor in South Georgia and learned firsthand about the passion of high school sports in rural America. I thought I knew before, but I didn’t. This was another world.
I also had the opportunity to cover major sporting events like the Olympic Games, the World Series, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. It was a thrill!
But nothing was as thrilling to me as uncovering the truth in investigative assignments. I once broke a story about a prominent southern football team’s NCAA violation -- and found out the violating coach had committed suicide only a few months earlier. The story won a national writing award and stoked my desire to write about these issues. It made me realize that the sports world was just another fantastic backdrop for drama.
After writing non-fiction books with athletes, for athletes, and ghost writing for many others, I decided to enter the world of fiction writing. It had been something I wanted to do but never found the time. So, I made the time--and had a blast in the process.
I’m not out to become the next Faulkner or Hemingway -- I’m just out to tell a good story. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them!
Fantastic story. The whole team gets together to find Falcon Sinclair and to try to eliminate his organization. The President puts the whole team in jeopardy even J D Blunt.
Everything goes wrong for the Phoenix Foundation when it appears the wrong person is killed. With the election approaching, the White House wants retribution and sends J. D. Blunt to a black ops prison. The rest of the team goes underground working tirelessly to clear their names. Meanwhile the team is still working to catch Falcon Sinclair and avert a disaster to the world. And so it goes. This book kept me on my toes the entire time. I loved that the whole team was together, Hawk, Alex, Black, Shields, Mia and eventually Blunt. Such great writing and reading and thoroughly enjoyable.
I have read all 21 of this series. I love the characters and the story lines are great. Wonderful suspense. The only reason I gave 3 rather then 5 stars has nothing to do with the author. It's the editing! In many places throughout most of the books there are grammatical errors, poorly placed punctuation that completely changes the meaning of the sentence, wrong pronouns, etc, etc. These SHOULD have been caught by the editor. It's most probable that the author didn't make the mistakes but that they were clerical errors. That's why you need a competent editor.
This book finds Brady, Alex, Titus, Mia and JD Blunt embroiled in an international incident that was forced on them under the guise of taking out a terrorist. Mr. Patterson has crafted a story filled with nonstop action and enough twists and turns to give the reader whiplash all the while tying up loose ends and threads from earlier Brady hawk and Titus Black stories. This is a must read for Brady Hawk and Titus Black stories. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide the review.
Just about anyone can be bought for the right amount of money, influence and power. Just about every politician walking the face of the earth. A multi billionaire has the money and power to do just that. The world will be his oyster and it's about to happen. An extremely elite team of covert operators are the only ones able to stop him. This is a high octane action thriller of mega proportions!! Enjoyed immensely!!
Another really good ride with Brady Hawk , JD Blunt and their cohorts. Fighting for America is their impetus as a select black ops gang, working under direct orders from the President. When an assignment goes awry, they find themselves on the run from their govt and the enemy as well. Good character development, as always , and a storyline that moves right along with equal measures of action and intrigue.
An excellent action thriller with a well written plot and a great cast of realistic characters. Brady Hawk and the Phoenix Foundation have plenty of problems to deal with in this story. Contains plenty of action and lots of suspense. An exciting read that was hard to put down. Highly recommended book and series. Keep the Brady Hawks stories coming!

As the team continues to protect the country, there is always another bad guy trying to bring the free world to its knees. It looks like the time to kneel is upon them and the country as well but you can expect they will not go easily.
What is that line about when the going gets tough...
Hawk and his team are battling a megalomaniac who wants to take over the world with his mind controlling program. Hawk fights for his team to keep them safe from corrupt politicians. And he decides he needs a rest.ENJOY!
Great reads, though shy of correct spelling and other challenging grammar—-characters and action were great. Thank you! If there is a new series please keep me advised, John
While it is hard to say goodbye to characters who the readers have hd the privilege of getting to know. The action never stops and all the looe ends are tied up.
This was an intense, suspenseful, and complex story. It was a long series, sometimes a bit too drawn out, but it was interesting. I recommend this book, series, and author.
Great series, actually one of the best. Character placement is fabulous as well their background. Story never got dull or not interesting. Good luck to the future of the Phoenix Foundation.
Patterson has done it again with this thriller. Hawk and Alex go after Obsidian and the terrorists while trying to clear their names of a mistaken hit.
