I was back and forth for a 3 star rating or a 4 star. The reason I wavered was - (and this is my personal opinion)
1.The special ops guys - an amazing, strong, courageous, dedicated, all-American, group of men to be honored and respected - were portrayed as kind of bumble-heads. Those guys are a tight group and they each have each other's back and depend on each other and have that mental area where are comrades to the end, etc. But in this story - an incident happened and the team chose sides! Some sided with guy #1 and others sided with Guy #2 ( this happened in the preceding book in this series). I really don't think the SEAL/Special Ops would have let this happen. So it kind of made an amazing group of dedicated military men look/sound like a bunch of street bums. I was a bit ticked off by that, even tho I know this is fiction - the SEALS are not.
#2 I know the F word is common and everyone uses it and I know that men of this stature would probably use it, however, in this book I feel the F word was used far to much, making the SEALS sounds like a bunch of empty-headed, uneducated slobs. Chapter 1 - 10 times, Chapter 2, 2 times. Chapter 3, 24 times. Chapter 4,20 times. Chapter 5, 5 times. Chapter 6, 7 times. Chapter 7, 16 times. Chapter 9, 16 times. and after that, I stopped counting. It was used when it didn't have to be. It was just too prominent like the author was trying to meet a word count or something. It made the SEALS sound like trash. Using the word sometimes was acceptable as I am sure what they go through, proper language is the least of their concerns however, in this story - it was just used to many times when and it didn't' add anything to the scene or the character. The 6th word in the book was F#&$.
There was also a lot of narrative. It just drug on and on. Also, Langely was kidnapped with Sarah. When rescued, she was taken somewhere - and never mentioned again in the story. Where'd they take her and why? What was up with that? It added no importance to the story.
It got pretty good the last 25% of the book - some clues were unexpectedly found, someone gets seriously shot, and a few other things happened that were really good perks to the story.
