A pithy and honest book about experiencing bullying and how to cope when in the midst of it. Written by someone who has lived experience of the issues she writes about, Emily Lovegrove talks about the brutal details of being bullied as an autistic youngster starting with heart rending question asked by many autistic teens: “Am I normal?”

Whilst the title and opening chapter particularly focus on how bullying affects autistic people, the remainder of the book is a fantastic handbook for anyone - adult or youngster - experiencing bullying. It is intensely practical with clear explanations and techniques to practice to help deflect, avoid and respond to behaviour that anyone with some difference experiences - especially in adolescence.

As a parent of an autistic teen and teacher, this made me realise that much of the advice I give to children is unhelpful (tackled my Emily in a chapter entitled ‘What is bullying - facts and fake news’). It is an incredibly practical and readable book for any youngster from someone who knows what it feels like and has many years of running workshops to tackle bullying.
