Pandemic: An assessment of the Conservative Governments response to the pandemic

Rate this book
This pandemic hit the UK. It has killed tens of thousands and infected hundreds of thousands. It has ruined our economy, our jobs and lives. It need not have been like this. Taiwan has had six deaths, six and no lockdown. Ten years of Conservative government destroyed our pandemic preparedness. The government literally left the country undefended from the virus. Once faced with the pandemic, the Conservative government ‘dithered and delayed’. They didn’t recognise the threat so took no meaningful action. Nine and half weeks passed between the city of Wuhan being locked down and the UK being locked down. Nine and half weeks in which the virus embedded and spread. During this period, no flights were stopped in time to prevent it arriving on our shores. No meaningful quarantining took place, contact tracing was inadequate and then stopped. Testing was chaotic and had no plan or strategy behind it. PPE could not be provided and it didn’t work anyway, the government knew this and did nothing, sending NHS and care home staff into the battle, defenceless. The conservative government knew the elderly were at the greatest risk and left them to fend for themselves. Our elderly mothers and fathers have died in their droves. The pandemic has exposed the Conservative government as a bunch of amateurish, ill informed, ignorant and stupid chancers. Their inaction and actions have literally killed tens of thousands of people. They must be held to account.
