Series Prequel - This story occurs before the events depicted in the rest of the series and is geared toward rounding out the characters and adventures of the associated books. It does not need to be read first to maximize the series. Enjoy.

How in the name of the goddess’s favorite sports bra am I going to do this Magical Librarian job? I have no idea what I’m doing. And the woman who’s supposed to be training me is…well, let’s just say she’s distracted and leave it at that. I guess I’ll bumble through. It’s become something of a trademark move for me.

My name is Naida Griffith and I’m a sorceress. I actually found that out not too long ago. I’ve lived with an undefined something burning in my belly for a while, feeling as if something wasn’t quite right under my skin. Then, on my eighteenth birthday I started getting headaches. Bad ones. And random stuff started following me around.

Recently I was approached by a group called the Société of Dire Magic to become Keeper of the Artifacts. A magical librarian. Given that magical artifacts have taken to following me around, I decided I might have an aptitude for the job. So I said yes.

But in the first few days, I’ve been flogged by flip flops, bludgeoned by gnomes, and discovered a corpse in a suitcase. Then there’s the woman who’s supposed to be training me. She’s…interesting.

Will I survive the training long enough to get the job as an artifact librarian? You might as well ask me if a caterpillar gets manis or pedis. Who knows? But I know one thing for sure. This gig is hard.

I’m going to do my best to succeed. Or die trying.

I loved this prequel to this series. Naida was raised as a regular human but when her grandmother passes she finds out otherwise. She is thrown into a world of magic. When the woman who is trainer her in her new is accused of murder, Naida and friends try to help.
Expect the unexpected, with this book, between attacking shoes and a disappearing suitcase. With everything being magic it opens up all kinds of possibilities. I loved Naida and her quirky sayings quite a few of them had me laughing out loud. The characters are unique and the mystery was good and kept me guessing. I will definitely continue on with this series.

Sam Cheever has finally brought us the story of Naida's first few days as a Keeper of (magical) Artifacts in UNBAKED CROAKIES. The author's descriptions of people, places and the unexplainable will have you ducking flying artifacts right alongside our heroine.

In this anxiously hoped for prequel we learn about Naida's arrival and first few days at Croakies, how she met Princess Sebille, Lea, Mr. Wicked, Detective Grym, and of course, her teacher and former KoA, Alice.

The job of a Keeper of Artifacts is to keep these dangerous magical objects safe and out of of the hands of the supernormal and normal community. Thorough training is an important first step to becoming a KoA.  Oops, Naida missed that first step - now she's kind of figuring it out as she stumbles through her new job. It's a good thing she's made some supportive and helpful friends along the way.

"Hippopotamus in a Humvee" What More can I say: a mysterious suitcase, a compact body, a stranger stealing an artifact and Naida has only been at Croakies for a day.

Fenwald, the cat on the cover is adorable, but that was just about the only thing I liked about this book. Wayyyy too much emphasis on how the characters' magic is done, and since the MC is new to the whole magic thing, it was too hard to accept.

We knew who the bad guy was early on, even though he didn't appear - wasn't even given a name! - until the last few pages of the book. If I didn't need a U title to fill several challenge spots, I would probably have abandoned the book way before that point.

I have the other two books from this series in my Kindle library, but I doubt I'll ever read them.

As an apprentice, Naida Griffith is learning her responsibilities as a Keeper of Artifacts, safeguarding magical objects. In all ways, Naida is a neophyte, having just recently discovered her own magical abilities. Naida's boss seems disinclined to do much in the form of training, leaving Naida alone to learn that keeping track of the antiquities is more problematic than it appears - particularly when said artefact is used in a crime.

I'm on the fence about this book. I thought the concept was sound and enjoyed the mystery, but the execution bothered me. I was not enamoured with the version of oaths that Naida utters at the drop of a hat, nor did I particularly like the main character herself. This seems more suited to a much younger audience.

I really enjoyed this book and learning about Naida’s origin story. This is an interesting world of magic that is unique and intriguing. This book is also funny, the part with the magical, deadly shoes was hilarious! I’m looking forward to following Nadia as she learns to be the Keeper of the Artifacts and also getting to know Lea and Sebille more. This is a fun cozy set in a crazy, magical world and I can’t wait to start the next in the series.

In the name of the Goddess's favourite sports bra.... that kind of says it all right there for me. The constant cutsie swearing to the Goddess quickly became a sore point for me. Those quirky little sayings were just so unfunny and often stopped the flow of the story just so the author could get a zinger off.
This is the tale of Naida, who is essentially a special snowflake, who thinks she doesn't have magical powers and is thrown into the deep end of the magical world. I liked the idea of her being an apprentice to the keeper of magical artefacts. But my least favourite trope is when the h is kept in the dark regarding the rules and stumbles about making a fool of herself. which happened here again and again. Naida was kind of likeable but not - her immaturity quickly began to grate. And if the author is setting up a romance b/w her and detective Grym, I'd be very surprised, as he comes across as world weary and ancient in comparison.
The tale was readable but I found it a little YA orientated and just didn't like any of the characters enough to consider delving further into this world.

Sam Cheever is a wonderful writer! I am so glad she created the "how it all started" with Nadia at Croakies. Thank goodness I've only read the first 2 books before this one came out. This book answers all your questions how Nadia came to Croakies, how she meets Lea & Sebille, how she get's Mr. Wicked, and how much "training" she receives from the previous KoA. But I still have a question hanging... who is Uncle Bob??? This book has us on a wild adventure with a mysterious suitcase, a man no one can remember and dangerous-murderous Gnomes. Oh I forgot to mention, we also get a first look at handsome detective Grym. This is a must read if have read this series or are still reading the series. I highly recommend Sam's other series' - they are also quite entertaining!

I really enjoyed this book! It is the series prequel, and was lighthearted, funny with a twist of intrigue and a seed planting of romance. With all that's going on at this time in the world, a little levity and humor goes a long way!

Our heroine, Naida Griffith, is out of her depths. She is around 24; was born outside of a mystical, magical world (one that she should have been in), brought up by a non-magical grandmother. She was not trained, educated or really believing in any of it, although very strange and odd things started when she turned 18, and kept happening to her. Now she has taken a job as a magical librarian (a place called Croakies - that already sounds like trouble), KoA (Keeper of magical Artifacts) apprentice, and quickly realizes that she is in no way near prepared for this responsibility. She gets into some serious life threatening situations right out-the-gate, but makes some pretty helpful friends and allies. Her mentor/trainer Alice is tired and hasn't really taught her anything to put a dent in what she needs to know to fulfill her duties; but has shown her that even in her ignorance, she has great instincts and survival skills. Although she feels like a mis-fit and failure, her new friends can see her potential while enduring and ignoring her lack of knowledge and slowly maturing powers.
One of the people that she interacts with, "Detective Grym", is definitely not impressed with her abilities, but does appreciate her helping solve cases. There is an initial dislike between them, and who knows, perhaps the beginning of something else....

Already looking forward to the next book, "Tea and Croakies" Book #1 in the series

Naida is approached about being a keeper of artifacts, she doesn't believe it. She is intern for the year at Croakies with Alice. Things don't really go the way she thought they would. Alice is not really teaching her much. Naida was doing inventory on the artifacts when she notices a pair of shoes are missing. Alice asks were they are, Naida tells her they were there. Alice has to call the police, Grym comes over. He takes Naida with him, to find them
When Alice taking a nap, a customer in the store does something. He opens a vortex and steals an artifact from the back. Naida gets Alice and tells her, Alice gets Lea. She can't get the much information especially after she is hexed. They don't know why anyone would take a suitcase. Grym comes to the store to ask her about a guy that is dead in the park. Alice asks suspicious to even Naida. Alice wants to go to the park, to have a look. Sebille comes over to help and introduce herself to Naida. Sebille tells them what they see, it looks like the suitcase is involved. These three will try to solve what is going and who is involved. Naida is above her head with everything that is going on, but she determined to help.

This was an nice look at Naida when she new to the job. What caused her to be properly trained to be a keeper. Really enjoyed her meeting her friends and how much they have grown. Can't wait to see Naida and Grym get together.

Well written, interesting and totally weird, lol! But I really think I'll like this series. It wasn't the super serious creepy type of magic going on. There was always something crazy to follow up with a little comedy or mayhem of some kind. I really liked Lea and Sebille as friends for Naida, and I'm sure they wouldn't be in this prequel if they weren't in the rest of the series, since I remember the prequel was written well into the series. Now I want to start the regular series so some more of this will make sense. It'll be interesting to see if Alice is in the first book or two. She's um, quite the character and sometimes made me think of an English version of Hetty on NCIS: LA. Except her catch phrase wasn't "Bugger", it was "Brilliant." lol.

I want to read the author's Silver Hills series too. I saw a dachshund on one of the book covers...and her bio page shows her own gorgeous dachshund, so I'm hoping there's one in that series.

While Sam assures you that you don't need to read this prequel to enjoy the series, and that is probably true, I would recommend that you read it first so that you will have a grasp on how Naida ended up as the Keeper of the Artifacts. It will explain how she hooked up with Lea and Seville, Detective Grym, Maude, and Mr. Wicked. I read Tea and Croakies first and felt a little lost, or at least like I had missed something.

Plenty of adventure and mayhem in this one as Naida tries to live through her first week in training as KoA after having lived as a human for her whole life, believing she had inherited little magic. Her mentor Alice seems to train using the "jump in and try to swim" method. Naida tends more towards kicking her legs and flailing, while hoping someone throws her a life preserver. Between disappearing shoes and suitcases, a grumpy detective, a mysterious murder, and maniacal wooden gnomes, Naida is not sure she is cut out for this job.

Unbaked Croakies: A Magical Cozy Mystery with Talking Animals

I am a fan of Sam Cheever’s writing since I read a couple of the Country Bumpkin series. I was given the opportunity through Booksprout to read this book, Unbaked Croakies, and took a chance on a new series. Also, fairly new to me is the magical component. I have read a few other books which contained a bit of magic, but nothing to the order of this book. It seemed there was magic, or reference to magic, on every page.

I enjoyed the story and unraveling the mysteries. Yes, that is right, mysteries, plural. What a treat. The characters worked very well together in the story. It was a well-written, fun, and easy read. A good start to a series.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review which is my honest opinion of the book.

This was a fun story with quirky characters including
Naida Griffith: A sorceress who just learned that she's a witch, and attracts trouble with a capital T.
Alice: The Keeper of Artifacts (magical). It's her job to keep artifacts safe from being misused, and
also to train Naida as her apprentice.
Leandra Coleman: A Earth witch and tea master. Also, the first friend Naida makes.
Sebille: Daughter of the Queen of the Fae, also wants to feel needed.
Detective Grym: Part of the magical police force who finds Naida's talents lacking.

This is a fun story with developed characters, and a good bit of humor from the mind of an author who makes sure you will not see what's coming next.

Naida is a witch, who does not know much about witchcraft, as she was raised by a human grandmother who tried her best to ignore any form of magic.
When Naida is approached to apprentice as a keeper of magical artefacts, she agrees, as she often has magical objects following her.
But when she arrives at CROAKIES; the base of the current keeper, she finds out that she has to jump right in, without any training from Day 1.
A funny, entertaining story, which introduces all the main characters of the CROAKIES series, and explains why Naida became a Keeper with basically no formal training.
Enjoyable and entertaining fun to read.

Answers to questions you haven't asked yet!!!!! Yes please!!!!!!!

What a great prequel to answer open questions from the other 8 books in the series! We finally learn more about the previous Keeper of Artifacts, KOA, Alice and the training she fails to provide to Nadia. We are introduced to Grymm and see him through a new set of eyes. I loved meeting Sebille and Lea as if for the first time and seeing how their friendship began. If you are a fan of this series, this book feels like a comfy old blanket on a chilly fall day. If this is your first time reading the Enchanted Inquires series, you couldn't have started with a better book!!!! Well done, Sam Cheever! Another excellent addition to the series. You never disappoint and ALWAYS leave me wanting more!!!!!

“Unbaked Croakies: A Magical Cozy Mystery With Talking Animals (Enchanting Inquiries Book 1),” is the first book of Sam Cheever that I have read. I found it refreshing, fun and intriguing.
Naida is a young woman unfamiliar with magic and has found herself in the position of being a Keeper. She encounters many different characters along her journey, they are all very interesting in their own way.
The book has elements of magic, mystery and witty dialogue, it is well written and very addictive. I can’t wait to read the entire series and I would suggest you get a copy and read it as soon as you can. Sam Cheever is a creative, imaginative and creative author.

Hi Mr Wicked. You are just so cute. I love your picture.

Wow. How Naida became the Keeper of the Artifacts. How she meets Sebille and Lea. Best part is not one mystery but three mysteries to be solved. Are they intertwined or not.

Start here if not familiar with the series. Guaranteed you will be hooked. Envy you since you get to see where it started. For those of us who are familiar with the series, it is interesting to see how it started.

I love this series. This magical world is so different from all the others. Always a surprise.

Great cozy mystery for all.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

Naida will be apprenticing as the Keeper of Artifacts for year, if she lasts that long. She hasn't been good with what magic she does have, and her first week on the job is a humdinger! She is able to solve a few problems, lose some magical artifacts, locate some magical artifacts and be almost murdered a few times.
But she has also made some good friends and may have even spotted some potential romance material.
There is lots going on in this story and not just focussed on a murder. This could be an engaging and fun series, looking forward to more.

In this book Nadia is thrust into internship to be the next Keeper of the Artifacts. I was excited to learn how Nadia got thrown into the KOA job. You get to read how Nadia and her friends first met and the first KOA case she worked on with Grimm. I laughed so hard at that part. I didn't think this series could get any better but then Sam Cheever wrote this. The characters are meeting for the first time and are coming together in their own way. They are learning to trust one another and work together to form the Croakies that exists in the rest of the series.

Loved loved loved it. I cant wait to get the missing books from my collection. Sam Cheever never disappoints. She write which makes these books so much fun to read. Unbaked Croakies is Naidia's initiation into being Keeper of Artifacts, a job that she knows nothing about but is about to learn very quick. If you love magic and laughter and sitting on the edge of your seat you will love this series of books. I have rated this a 5. Sam gifted this book as a Valentine gift to her readers and I am glad I picked it up. Thank you Sam Cheever for once again making me laugh. I am never disappointed by your stories. If you want a copy just hop on over to Amazon and grab one. You will love it.

Naida's baptism

An intriguing tale. Not much is told of Naida's past except that her parents were dead and she had grown up with a non magic grandmother. Naida's baptism into the magical world as the trainee Keeper of Artifacts is tumultuous, but she was fortunate enough to find true friends who were willing to come to her assistance when she was thrown into the deep end by her trainer. The story was gripping, the characters (the good ones)were memorable and very likeable even Alice who so neglected her duties. There were a few events that in addition to keeping me on the edge of my seat generated some laughter.
A different kind of magic and a good read.

Warehouse 13 meets Fairytales more so

"Unbaked Croakies (Enchanting Inquiries Book 1)" by Sam Cheever is like Warehouse 13 (if you're familiar with the show) with lots of extra magic. However, for being a prequel I didn't get a lot of prequel feel from it. Yes, the main character is getting brought to the shop for the first time and first starting to understand her magic, but it felt a bit jumpy. Suddenly we're there. Suddenly she's doing this now and that now. Transitions were a bit choppy. I still very much enjoyed the story though. I especially enjoyed the creative swearing. I will probably give the series a read.

Quite zany, hectic and fast paced series starter. An enjoyable read with some interesting characters. The reader is thrown in at the deep end almost as much as the main character, this could be deliberate on the part of the author, it certainly helps you empathise with Naida. There isn't a dull page in this book and all becomes clearer by the end, I would happily read the rest of the series, in fact I've already read Tea and Croakies.

From felonious footwear to gruesome gnomes, Naida feels overwhelmed in her new position as Apprentice Keeper. The current Librarian doesn’t seem interested in training her and her contact at the Police Station sees right through her bumblings. Fortunately, she meets some characters (who are not all human) that may just help her survive and solve a deadly conspiracy. I loved reading this hilarious beginning of Naida’s career at Croakies and purchased a copy to read again with the entire series.

This is a story full of magical beings. Naida is one of them, but she isn't sure of what she is doing. She wasn't raised with magic and always felt out of place. She didn't seem to fit anywhere. Now she is supposed to be a Keeper of the Artifacts and the person training her isn't doing much to train her. She has been thrown in at the deep end and she is hoping to keep her head above water. Naida blunders through everything but along the way she has made a few friends who help her. Will she ever get the hang of it?

Unbaked Croakies by Sam Cheever is the prequel to the Enchanting Inquiries series. Naida Griffith finds that she has magical abilities when she is approached by the Societe of Dire Magic to apprentice as Keeper of the Artifacts, a magical librarian only to become involved in a murder investigation when her trainer is suspected. A very different and crazy magical story. Lots of strange characters and probably written for those more familiar with the series. An interesting mystery but rather lost in all the craziness.

Unbaked Croakies is a fantastic book. I loved it! It is unique and creative. Sam Cheever writes with great descriptive detail that you can picture the world coming to life. This is a prequel to the series and it was interesting to see where it all started and gain more insight into the characters. The characters are humourous and quirky. This magical world is intriguing and fun. It is always an exciting adventure at Croakies. I absolutely love this series! I highly recommend this book.

I am so glad that I chose to wait to find book 1.

A croakies adventure and an amazing one at that.

In fact I really enjoyed this book because I had missed the 1st book in the series and this is the book of how Nadia became the keeper of artifacts.

I loved what reading it and connecting the missing dots.

I am starting this series with the prequel Unbaked Croakies. This book is a great introduction to Nadia and her magical universe. Of course, even magical universes can have issues. This include a teacher who is not teaching, a murder and various "baddies"! Nadia was not raised as a magical so she is just learning about her powers, how to use those powers, and is apprenticed to be a Keeper of the Artifacts, a magical librarian. You should not miss Nadia's journey in this well plotted book with very interesting and different magicals.
