You'll never make a fuss in a hotel again.N0.9 IN THE "HOTEL STORIES" SHORT STORY SERIESLeigh Turner, writing under the pseudonym Robert Pimm, creates a fresh “Hotel Story” each year as a birthday present to his partner, who is a senior hotel manager. “Total Control” was the gift in 2019. "Seven Hotel Stories", available on Amazon in paperback and as a Kindle download, brings together the first seven of these addictive tales.Ms N, the world's most brilliant, unpredictable and occasionally homicidal hotelier, has returned from her eventful stay in the country of C—, as told in Hotel Story No.4, "The White Blouse". Ms N and her beautiful but naive ally Tatiana are shocked to find that their old hotel has deteriorated in their absence and is due a total renovation. Ms N tells Mr Dolgov, the owner of the hotel, that she will only agree to carry out the renovation if she is given total control. But Mr Dolgov has other ideas. He wants Mr Keven Coatts, a hotel consultant with little respect for women, to oversee Ms N's renovation. He also wants to assign Ms N to run his new hotel, the Caravanserai Ultra Platinum, in the remotest, wildest and ruggedest corner of the country, as soon as she has finished her work. Ms N has no intention of being supervised by Mr Coatts; or of running a hotel remote from London, where a man she cares about is living. Mr Dolgov and Mr Coatts had better take care..."Charming, fun and fast-paced, The Hotel Stories bring Turner's wit and vigour to that most difficult of literary forms, the short story" - Matthew Parris.

Hello and welcome to my author page. My real name is Leigh Turner, but from 2014-2021, when I was British Consul-General in Istanbul and British Ambassador to Austria, I wrote under the pen-name Robert Pimm.

My top priority is my new Istanbul thriller, "Palladium", to be published by Immortal Works press in May 2022. I am working on a lighthearted handbook, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to Diplomacy", to be published in autumn 2022 or spring 2023.

A diplomat since 1983, I started my first novel in 1986 in Vienna. One night, my girlfriend was late for a date. While I waited, I had an idea for a story which later turned into my first novel, "Eternal Life" (published under the name Leigh Turner). When I lived in Moscow 1992-5 a writer told me to "write about what you know" and I wrote a thriller set in Russia.

Later, in Berlin, I took four years off to look after my two children. An editor at the Financial Times said "man at home - a great source of copy" and invited me to write about my experiences. You can find the results at my rleighturner.com blog under the "Existential & Women" and "Journalism" categories.

Writing for the FT encouraged me to try another thriller - set in Berlin - which became "Blood Summit. I love reading thrillers, from Lee Child and Michael Connelly through John le Carre to Robert Harris, Stella Rimington and Graham Greene. But I also adore Anthony Trollope, Barbara Atwood and P G Wodehouse.

When I worked in Ukraine, I met my partner, who is a senior hotel manager. I wanted to think of an original birthday present. I gave her a "Hotel Story" about glamorous, petite hotel manager, Ms N, and her ally, the beautiful but naive Tatiana, who will not tolerate misbehaviour by men.

The response was favourable. Phew! So I produced another story, precisely one year later, and kept on doing so. So far, I have written eleven Hotel Stories. The first seven years' worth appear in "Seven Hotel Stories".

You can read more about all this, including excerpts from all the Hotel Stories and the novels, at my rleighturner.com website.

If you feel like sampling my writing, I'll be delighted. Have fun, and do let me know what you think.
