The Rat Rebellion

Rate this book
Charleen Dreesen is stranded on Casa Verde station without the proper ticket to ship out on an interstellar spaceship. With no berths in the offing, she's looking for any way she can find to make a credit. Then she meets Joey, his sister Darleen, his father Mike and his pet rat Mister Rodent—who are all worse off than she is. Mike's behind in his kickbacks to the local crime boss, and neither he nor the kids have interfaces or much in the way of education.

So Charleen's now in bad company as well as stranded and broke. Before you know it, people are trying to kill her. She's left with no choice but to start climbing the ladder of La Causa, the organization that controls crime in the Casa system.

And if she's not careful she’ll wind up in politics. The Cordoba and Drake Combines are being challenged by the rising Alliance created by Jenny Starchild and the crew of her starship Arachne. Their control over the Pamplona sector is starting to crack and the Casa system is caught in the middle. Charleen may have to raise the bloody flag of revolution...

Good sci fi adventure

I really like Joey and Mr. Rodent, but the criminality of this story was much harder to enjoy. And Buckley's actions and the resulting character deaths were disturbing enough that I am not sure I will read the next book. It seems the body counts will continue to climb, the story is becoming increasingly military sci fi, and the Parthians are playing a smaller role. I recommend reading the series in order.

Book. Three

This book was a little dissapointing as more than half of it is the back story of a new character which brings us a new perspective from a star system perspective. The first two novels are both from the perspective of teavelers moving around different star systems for teade and occasional combat. The different perspective was interesting but would have been less jarring if integrated into all three novels as interludes between shipboard scenes.

Fun action story about crime bosses and the role they play in the Star Wings Universe. Or maybe it should be how do your overthrow crime bosses who mistreat you and your friends. Or maybe it should be what environmental problems are caused by rats of various sorts. Anyways this is a fun book of stories that all fit together to make a bigger story and also give what is going on elsewhere from the main military action of rebellion. Recommended.

Engaging Storyline

The author’s did a great job in making the numerous characters individuality standout. I appreciated that they stuck to the amount of history/backstory needed to keep the plot going.

This whole series is great fun. I enjoy the politics and the imperfect people and just everything.
I can barely wait for the next book!

Rats and Rats rule

A quick read and complex for the fun of it. I wish I was smart enough to reference the back index when I wad puzzling out the different stations and players.
