The legendary super soldier returns in Halo Infinite. 343 Industries and Microsoft are building the biggest and most visually spectacular Halo yet. Halo Infinite debuts on the Xbox family of consoles, including Xbox Series X, Microsoft's latest and most powerful game console. To take full advantage of its prodigious graphical prowess, 343 Industries built an all-new, next-generation game engine, giving their world-class artists the tools and technology to realize the worlds, war, and wonder of the Halo universe in unprecedented style and fidelity. 343 Industries have given Dark Horse access to the art and artists who've brought Halo Infinite to vibrant, vivid life. It's all here in unparalleled detail, the heroes you've grown to love--the Master Chief, the brave soldiers of the UNSC, as well as the weapons, vehicles, villains and vistas--and of course, the eponymous and magnificent environments of Halo itself.
The Art of Halo Infinite also features a brand-new cover from legendary concept artist and Halo Infinite's Art Director, Sparth! Join us as we take you from concept to launch inside the artwork of the most ambitious Halo game to date.
This is probably the best artbook I have ever seen. I especially enjoyed the concept art of the environments, but there is a good amount of character and weapon designs as well. Intriguingly, much of this material is not in the game (yet?) but this speaks to the undoubtedly crazy reality of game design. Unlike some artbooks, there some text as well (not a lot), providing a little bit of insight into the thought process behind some of the designs in this game compared to previous entries in the series. If you like Halo, getting your hands on this should be a no-brainer, but I would vocally recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi or concept artwork in general. I could stare at the landscapes here for hours - this might sound silly, but I felt totally immersed in these pictures! My only complaint is that there was so much huge environment art that they shrunk a lot of them to put three on a page, when they could have easily done more double-page spreads. Although this format would have made the book a lot bigger and more expensive, I think it would have been worth it because these are so detailed. Ideally, you'd want to see them as big on the page as possible. This is still an incredibly gorgeous collection of artwork that I really took the time to enjoy. It looks great on a shelf and I'll definitely be flipping through these pages again.
A visually stunning art book, but one that feels like it’s lacking in a few areas. The design of Zeta Halo and the banished are excellent and I enjoyed playing in the setting the artists envisioned. The vistas across the ring were plentiful in this book which I liked. The design and evolution of the new weapons was also interesting to see but at this point in the series, it’s not entirely necessary since every new gun has its roots in an older design. I liked the spartan designs but I felt that more pages could have shown the evolution of the Chief’s suit from 5 to Infinite. The little hints of a merged suit design were interesting and I would have liked to seen more of his armor and the various other multiplayer armors. The Weapon was completely missing from this book probably for spoiler reasons, but the Harbinger wasn’t? Odd decision. More forerunner interiors would have been cool to see as well.
All in all it’s a good art book but shows about 60% of the whole game and there isn’t much flavor text sadly. The image of a Guardian and teases of Sanghelios will haunt me of the Infinite story that never came to be…
It has that same problem I constantly complain about with art books, where it looks better on digital than in real life because of the 2-page spreads. Do designers not read real books any more?
I enjoy playing the game, despite its numerous flaws, and it looks amazing. I don’t know how many times I’ve been killed in multiplayer matches just because I was looking at the scenery. A lot.
This book isn’t comprehensive, merely giving an overview of most of the locations, armor, weapons and vehicles. That’s fine; no art book covers everything exhaustively. Some of the key art for various moments from the campaign are gorgeous. Particularly if you’re looking at this book on an iPad, whee you can see the whole picture and then zoom into specific areas.
I also like that they show some of the things cut from the game, including entire sections of story. That behind the scenes stuff is just as interesting as seeing the iterations of elements that made the final cut.
I'll be completely honest, i haven't as of yet completed the infinite campaign, and i probably won't for a while as i catch up on the novels so i can get the full picture of the story!
That being said the reason i decided to pick this up and give it a read or should i say look, was because I figured that i might not play the game for a while so I'll look at the beauty of this game, to keep my hope going till i finally get around to playing the game, and the art was just beautiful I love looking through video game art books to see what could and would of been during production, obviously i can't say here what was used and what is just concept art but I liked what I saw and it keeps me excited to one day see this beauty in person.
Note: I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Interesting to see the decisions that go into designing an art style that is meant to both modernize as well as call back to the original and the delicate balance that goes into that. I wish there was more info about this. I wish there was more concept art too. It can be frustrating how many concepts don't have any captions providing context. A lot of concept art that was chosen had a backlit quality to it that obscured the foreground: I assume that this is intentional to show the environments, but, again, lacking a framing, it doesn't have the impact that it could have.
read this right in the beginning of the year it is one of the best art books i have ever seen it is beautiful and I loved how it explains everything so it doesn't really feel like a art book but more like a deep explanation of what's halo must feel like
The Art and concepts in this book are very detailed. A lot of thought went into the design of the game, creating an immersion for the player in the game. The design is beautiful and amazing.
