This was fun again. Very gentle magic, lots of love of nature and love of the ordinary. This time we get to meet Makoto's parents and her childhood best friend.

4.5, un tome où on apprend beaucoup de chose sur Makoto, avec un genre de prophétie ? L'histoire prend vraiment son temps mais c'est un vrai plaisir de suivre l'apprentissage de toutes ces sorcières

Summary:

Makoto Kowata is a witch. Or rather, she's a witch in training. As such, she has packed up all her belongings (and cat) to live with distant relatives. It's a bit of a family tradition – a way of sending young witches out into the world - but in a gentler way.

Makoto has been with her extended family for quite some time – so naturally, it's time for her to plan a visit back home. Likewise, Makoto can't do anything without getting into an adventure (or ten).

Review:

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Flying Witch is a relaxing, chill, and endearing series. Flying Witch Vol. 10 is no exception to that, even if it does see Makoto going back home (for a bit). As always, I enjoyed this slice-of-life adventure.

I like how each volume seems to find new – yet small – ways to deviate from the previous volumes. In this case, we have Makoto going home and dealing with curses. Two different adventures (wrapped into one), but still in keeping with the core concept of Makoto's story.

I've enjoyed this series binge, and it's (basically) come to an end (this is the last volume my library had). Oh well, it was a great run, Flying Witch!

Highlights:
Slice-of-life
Witchy Tale
Cat Familiar

4.5/5

Mako & Akane make a trip home to see their parents! But before that we get to see the fruits of the family’s labour in their garden harvest.

I thought this was a great volume! I did find Mako’s friend back home (Miko) a little annoying with her desire to continually compete with her to see who’s a better witch.

I liked the story about the novice witches having to stop the excess rain in a temple that turns out to be a bunch of good luck cat” spirits (as far as I could tell) that are sick of dried foods as offerings and want some sort of cat food tubes they saw TV ads for. 😂 It was a pretty funny conclusion.

I think my fav part of this volume was seeing their parents and also Akane being told off by their mom for not calling home or coming home for visits. 😅 And when their dad freaked out a little because Akane “turned to goo” when he tried to pat her head (but it was just a duplication spell she quickly learned from their friend Miko).

My feeling of reading this series is that it started with a very simple premise of just doing a Kiki-esque story of a young witch out for training, but set in Aomori. As the series continued to be popular, it needed to expand its scope and maybe add just a touch more drama to support enough interesting material. I feel like that shift occurred across the last several volumes, and it seemed a bit disruptive, but in this volume it finally hit its stride and the expanded scope of the setting felt more natural and enjoyable; or maybe it is just changes in my mood as I've read these books. But I did enjoy this volume, and feel like more would be fun to read.

Makoto and her sister go for a visit home and to take on some witch jobs.

The last couple of volumes of this series haven't been as good so I'm happy to say that this one is great again! I think moving Makoto out of the area she was in mixed things up well. My favorite part was the two cats pretending to be plush stuffed cats so they'd be allowed onto the trains.

Great series

I have really enjoyed this series since the beginning. Love the anime as well. Just nice,
Slice of life comfort tales. My only complaint is how long it is between volumes.

The thing I love about this series is how slice of life it is amongst the magic. Just pleasant interactions between characters. "Could you take our picture please?" "Oh that's a nice jacket!" So so cozy

Makoto travels home for a visit with her parents and sister. While home, she and her friends go out on a job, which involves rain, lots of rain. The new characters are a great addition to the cast. I want to know more about her family.

Is it wrong to love a manga for the backgrounds? Everything else is great too, of course.

The cat temple chapter was GOLD. This series is still so cute, charming, and fun. Hate that we have to wait so long for the next one!

Makoto heads home for a week to visit family! I miss Kei and Chinatsu, but it's good to see the series not rely on them and have Makoto do stuff on her own. She has some tests to do, has an away mission while she's home, and we get to see some of her childhood friends (including a 'rival' of sorts). It's got the same style as the rest of the series but the new location and characters makes it feel fresh, with lots of new magic and new little animal things to interact with (from familiars to spirits).

The only bad part of this book is finishing it and seeing that the next volume is more than a year away.

Makoto's life continues. Her vegetable garden delivers a great harvest and she returns to her parents with her sister to meet old friends and rivals with whom she tries to solve a case of unexplained rain. In other words, an entertaining slow paced slice-of-life story of the mundane and the magical much like previous volumes. I love how the world slowly gets bigger and I am curious where things are going.
