Varsity Rulebreaker

Rate this book
Hollis Taylor is allowed to break the rules. She’s coach’s little girl. And she’s good. If that means she gets to bump one of the guys for the starting catcher’s job on the Public High baseball team, then the others on the squad better suck it up and deal.

But breaking rules has taken Cannon Jennings far in life. One of the nation’s top pitching prospects, he came here to throw to his cousin and show college recruiters everything he could do on the mound. Taking his signs from a girl was not part of his blueprint, especially one that screwed over his favorite relative and best friend.

Too bad he broke the biggest rule of all before he knew exactly who she was.

It was just a New Year’s kiss. Totally forgettable. Especially under the circumstances.

So why can’t he stop thinking about it?

I can't believe that is the end of the series. I want more. I don't know who I want but I'm really going to miss the D'Angelo boys and June and Abby and Lucas. Although getting that series epilogue and seeing them all set off into their futures did give me the warm fuzzies. Maybe I need to let them go and just enjoy the time we had because it was an awesome series.

This one didn't feel as connected to me. To be honest I was expecting Hayden's story and I was a little disappointed not to get it. But I did seriously enjoy this story. And the timing seems like one of those spooky coincidences. Because Hollis feels like she is going to change the world for women's rights at a time we are all mourning the loss of one of the biggest advocates for women's rights.

It's absolutely horrifying the amount of truth in this story in regards the things that we as women have to put up with to get the same opportunities as our male counterparts. But the strength and determination of Hollis was a thing of beauty and something all girls should aspire to.

Initially I wasn't a fan of Cannon. I did not see what Hollis saw in him other than the pinstripe pants. But he grew up and he learned a lot in both baseball and life. And he really grew on me. By the end of the book I loved him.

This book was perfect. And even though I am already missing the series, this book ended it well. Now I just have to wait and see what Ginger Scott has planned for us next.

This by far was my favorite book in the series. I love how we still got a peak and June amd Lucas, and Tory and Abby. I was so mad with Cannon in the beginning for not sticking up for Hollis. But she is such a strong and independent character. Well written with great characters.

I have enjoyed the heck out of this series. So to call any one book my favorite seems somehow wrong.

And yet?

This one. This one was my favorite.

Cannon. Jennings. Y'ALL.

This guy was freaking amazing. The perfect hero. Strong, kind-hearted, supportive, empowering, sexy and unexpectedly sweet. I was not prepared to love him this much. I was not prepared for this love story. It was feisty and fierce and fun. It was touching and heartbreaking and important. It was the perfect way to end this emotional, angsty, mature YA series and I loved every minute.

Hollis, man. If Cannon was the perfect hero, then Hollis went beyond perfection. It can be tricky to write really strong heroines, but I felt like Ginger Scott got Hollis just right. Balancing the insecurities and uncertainties that come with being a teenager against the strong will and relentless drive of pursuing her dreams. She was a firecracker, but her heart was so big. She fought so hard to blaze her own trail, but she didn't try to do it at the expense of anyone else's. I absolutely adored her, and the sweet, sizzling chemistry she shared with Cannon.

This series explored a few different family dynamics, and this story was no exception. I loved the underlying theme - of rising above, of the content of your character being more important than any skill or talent you might have. I loved how Cannon's family bent and twisted with the challenges they were presented, but - as family does - they bounced back in the end.

This was just an incredibly rewarding story. I absolutely loved every single one of these characters and every moment I got to spend with them. Varsity Rulebreaker delivered the perfect ending to a fantastic series, and I absolutely recommend it! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

Varsity Rulebreaker was a very good read.

Cannon is new to the Public High, he trasferred to play baseball with his cousin. Hollis's just transferred to PH because her dad is the new baseball coach.
They meet for the first time at a New Year's party and after a few jokes they kiss each other on the midight. They don't know they will see each other often on the diamond and at practice because she'll try to become the team's catcher. Will they give in to their attraction or will they try to refrain because getting a place in the team is more important?
Naturally the arrival of a girl in the team will create some discontment and arguments.
Will our heroine overcome all these hurdles showing all her worth? Or will she surrender to the male dominated environment?

I liked how the author has handled the topic of equality between men and women.
While I was reading this story I was so absorbed in the plot that I felt Hollis' struggles to be accepted by her team and to be seen as an athlete more than a girl like they were mine. I adored how she never step back from a challenge and how she fights all her battles and how she works hard to improve.

I was sad to say goodbye to these characters because I've enjoyed every book in this series and I got attached to all of them.
I'm already looking forward to Ginger Scott next story.

5 "I've been warned." Stars

Another YA/NA winner from Ginger Scott. Her penchant for writing compelling, interesting characters within this genre keeps me coming back for more. As an endcap to a great series, this book brings two people together who never expected each other. It's an interesting dichotomy between the two as they're both fighting for their dreams that end up being the so similar. I love how Ginger Scott always finds a way to shatter social constructs and make both her heroines and heroes alike unexpected in ways that make you think and want better for our kids at this stage in their lives. It's a great story with all the grittiness and appeal this author always provides.

This is probably one of the most complex sports romances I've read, as the romance is deeply entwined with the sport itself, exploring a woman's place in a man's sport.

Cannon Jennings and Hollis Taylor are new to Indiana, coincidentally both moving there for baseball. While their first introduction is a sweet one, things quickly sour when Cannon discovers that Hollis is the daughter of his new Coach, Travis Taylor. And things get more complicated when it is revealed that Hollis is trying out the same position as catcher, that Cannon's cousin, Zach, currently plays. Cue the drama!

What is clear from the get-go is that Hollis is very talented. Yes, she is a woman, but it is clear her place on the field is warranted, although it may look like favoritism to others. And because of her connection to the Coach, she has to prove herself that much more.

Although it took me some time to warm up to Cannon, as he seems to waffle on what is the right thing to do - stand with a family member or allow each player's talent to dictate their role on or off the team. It is clear what the right thing to do is, but I did sympathize with Cannon's predicament.
As for Hollis, I loved her fighting spirit and how she didn't allow Zach to break her down despite his best efforts. With time, the two prove that not only do they work well on the field, their connection is deep enough to survive off the field.

This story explored a lot of real-world drama in sports, particularly with parents having too big a role in the team's direction and the intense competition/pressure to live up to expectations. It was clear in how that story was presented, that the author has a deep understanding of the sport. And while I thought the team drama was resolved a little too quickly, I loved how she handled Zach's situation.

As this is the last book in the series, and I thought it ended on a great note.

Author Ginger Scott wraps up her Varsity series with a bang! Her latest release, Varsity Rulebreaker, is a young-adult sports romance that features strong characters, great baseball, and hard challenges.

Hollis Taylor and Cannon Jennings both end up in Indiana because of baseball. A chaste New Year’s Eve kiss creates a spark, but that pales in comparison to the sparks that fly once it is known that Hollis is not only the new baseball coach’s daughter but also that she is trying out for the team. The angst and drama kick into high gear when Cannon gets caught in the middle of Hollis and his cousin Zach's escalating feud.

Hollis represents every girl who has had to struggle to be allowed to follow her dreams. She is talented, works hard, and has had to develop a strong spirit to carry her through the challenges of competing against the boys. Cannon starts off a bit weak; his ambivalent response to his cousin’s insecure, angry outbursts isn’t what you’d expect from the story’s hero. However, Ms. Scott accurately portrayed how difficult it would be for a young adult to choose between family loyalty and standing up for what is right.

Ms. Scott not only highlights some glaring issues facing female athletes but also calls out some of the ugliness of youth sports (i.e., overly involved parents whose expectations lead to less than desirable sportsmanship). The conflicts were well presented, but perhaps a bit too easily and quickly wrapped up. I enjoyed how the characters from the prior two books were easily folded into Varsity Rulebreaker. The dialogue and interactions feel authentic, and above all the Ms. Scott gives her readers engaging characters and situations that draw us into her stories.

I’m utterly, completely, totally in love with Hollis. She was a fantastic character, a tiger, a warrior! She was brave, snarky, funny, strong, sweet and flawed. Absolutely amazing. Definitely my favorite heroine in this series!
Now that I’ve gushed about Hollis, there was Cannon too. Honestly, at first it took me a minute to warm up to him. Even though I understood some of his behavior at the beginning of the book, I was siding with Hollis in all of it. Anyway, Cannon was torned between family loyalty, his feelings for Hollis and a few preconceived notions regarding women in sports. Fortunately, his character growth was done beautifully and the boy started to pitch like a dream in more ways than one. The way he stood at Hollis’ corner was so sweet and swoon worthy!
Furthermore, I loved Cannon’s dad, I really loved the Cannon’s bromance with Tory, who is still my absolute favorite hero in this series, and I enjoyed the moments with Lucas, June and Lola too. As a sports fan, I also adored the fact that the story had a lot of baseball in it: the training, the workouts, the game moments, the bonding moments between Hollis and Cannon as teammates. It made the atmosphere perfect.
Varsity Rulebreaker was a beautifully written fantastic YA mature sports romance with captivating strong characters, steamy scenes, teen angst, all the feels and so much girl power. A perfect home run! I loved every second of it and I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters. I would definitely keep reading more and more in Ginger Scott’s Varsity world. I highly recommend this series, definitely one of my top favorite series of 2020.

This has been a varied series covering sports romance at this age. The pressure of highschool sports can be rough. Ginger Scott seems to know her thing.

Cannon has a rep and was an ass at first but I think he needed Hollis to keep up with him and call him out. I think liked this one best in the series. It maybe YA but it was mature in how it tackled sexism in sports. It was interesting to see the family dynamics come into into play too. Cannon was torn by loyalty to his family with his cousin. But also acknowledging Hollis is a good catcher and knows her stuff. It doesn't help that the attraction between them makes things harder. But it makes their bond that much stronger later.

Tory is pretty smart here and his advice was solid. To let his cousin deal with his own business and he stick to his. There qas In the end Cannon learns to be more an ally and support Hollis throughout the odds that faced her in the double standards. His cousin also grew in the end and tried to better himself. Hollis is tough and she went through a lot but she worked for the respect.

This was a good ending to the series it tied up all the stories featured with a good epilogue. These guys grew up and we get to to see it. The author is pretty good at it these coming of age stories. It's more than just baseball, it's about friendship and life too.

Saving the best for last, Ginger Scott has outdone herself and has given the reader not only a coming of age romance but also one that is filled with deeper life lessons. Family, romance or competition are the three things that surround Cannon as he makes his way through his senior year of high school. Finding himself in the middle of his cousin and the coaches daughter, leaves him with decisions that need to be made while trying to be the best pitcher he can be. But will one kiss at midnight on NYE be the starting point of the beginning or the end of his relationships? With beautifully written characters and the combination of baseball and romance this was an awesome read. I am so sorry to see the series end.

“Give me what you’ve got, Smalls.”

Oh. My. Sweet. Sigh. I can’t help but still bask in the glow of Ginger Scott’s spellbinding Varsity series.

Scott has crafted compelling characters that are the definition of strength. Hollis is a warrior of a heroine and I was cheering for her to smash every bit of shade thrown her way. Cannon is her perfect match and I reveled in his athleticism and ability to match to the beat of his own drum. The connection between Cannon and Hollis is combustible and compassionate, full of depth and dominance of the game.

Varsity Rulebreaker is a strong and soul-searing YA romance of perseverance and passion, a powerful journey that bleeds angst and battles stereotypes, where you can’t help but root for the hero, heroine, and their hard-fought happily ever after. I’m in such awe of this sports romance and series that stole my heart. Scott hits a heartfelt home run!

Hollis not only loves baseball, but she has the skill to back it up. She knows that she is facing an uphill battle with her new team as she already has two strikes against which are the fact that she is a woman and that her father is the coach but she has never been one to back down from a challenge.

The success of the team is vital to Cannon if he wants to pursue his dreams of pitching in college and the catcher will be an important part of his success. He wants the familiarity of his cousin Zach behind the plate and not the girl he shared a romantic moment with and now he finds himself torn between love and loyalty.

Hollis is feisty and fiery while Cannon was originally conflicted but the man that he truly was emerged as the story progressed and they show that they are perfect for each other whether it comes to baseball and romance.

Girl power !!

I love Cannon ! Not only because he shares my
Last name (haha) but he’s talented , gorgeous , supportive , sweet , and strong in all the right ways .
Hollis is a sporty chick! She loves playing sport and is very talented ! She’s feisty and fighting the good fight in proving that girls can play sport just as well as guys can .
Hollis is the baseballs coaches daughter , but she also really wants to play ball. And she’s willing to put In the hard yards. Including standing up against the bullies and the nay sayers .
This book is about that , and how the sexist stigma of girls can’t do that still exists . But then also how having someone in your corner can help beat the odds. I loved this !!

This is a high school sports Romance , kind of enemies to lovers style . Beautifully written and an all important message to get out there !!
Really enjoyed it !

Not bad, the romance was nice but the main undercurrent of the book was the consequences of gender in sports and how women are treated. Normally I dislike books filled with feminism or tropes that feed into the “patriarchy” - this however, was done well enough not to turn me off. I thought the epilogue didn’t really match the events. As in the main villain suddenly made decisions that didn’t really correspond to his behaviour for the entire book. So there seemed to be a disconnect for me.

I love a woman who stands up for herself and what she believes in but I also love a man who stands by her side as she battles!

Cannon and Hollis meet one night unexpectedly and hit it off! Their light banter and easy chemistry drew you in! What you didn’t expect to happen does and now Cannon has to decide what is more important; family or what’s right?

Cannon and Hollis learned a lot from each other and the greatest lesson was that you’re not alone and that you should have to make allowances for those in your life! They battle a huge war together and they come out stronger! I definitely loved Hollis and her spitfire ways! She didn’t sit down and shut up! She talked the talk and walked the walk to show everyone around her that she belongs! I loved having a book where the heroine didn’t fit societal standards! She was herself and it was that confidence as fire that hooked Cannon!

Stole My Heart

I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did honestly. I’ve been on a high school enemies to lovers kick and honestly I find myself judging the characters as acting too grown up too old etc etc and I didn’t find myself doing that with this book. Hollis and Cannon acting just as I remember myself acting or my friends acted back in high school. I enjoyed both characters immensely. I loved seeing Cannon grow and Hollis not change for him or anyone else. Cannon liked her for her and I really liked that too. This was a pleasant surprise of a book. Glad I took the chance on it.

DNF @ 49%. I really wanted to like this one, but I just don't. I hated Cannon half the time. I hated Hollis all of the time. I have lots of other thoughts on why this didn't work for me, but they all come back to the characters and their behavior, so I'm just going to leave it at this.

Ginger Scott always gives me the kind of YA stories that leave me smiling. This one was a fresh take on the jock story because this time there’s a girl in the mix.

I loved the banter, the connection and the way she manages to give you those teen butterflies that only young love can bring.

It’s such a great read I was sad when it ended.

Definitely recommend.

Original review: A Novel Glimpse

Note: This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased opinion.

Varsity Rulebreaker was a home run. It was everything that Ginger Scott excels at in her novels. Here's what I loved about it:

* The writing was addictive with just the right amount of teen angst.
* Hollis and Cannon were a good match. I loved the feelings of not just romance but friendship developing between them.
* I also loved the friendships they had with previous series characters. These characters didn't take over, but were there for support.
* The issues Hollis and Cannon faced in life were socially relevant to today's teens and packed a punch in the special way Ginger Scott has. This book spotlighted some very important topics without feeling preachy.
* There was also a TON of actual sports related situations. This sports romance was heavier in that area than most.

Varsity Rulebreaker was a great sports romance that was big on baseball and love. It's my new favorite in this series. I would highly recommend it. I think it could be read with or without having read the previous books.

Ok. 2.4?

I liked Cannon and thought he was a decent male lead. I didn’t really like Hollis. She just didn’t gel with me. I am a feminist and every pro female, so I never would have thought I’d have a complaint here. She was just written in a fake way to be like the perfect modern woman. But it just wasn’t sincere. She’s tough, self aware, pro casual sex, overall it’s like she is the authors version of what a perfect modern woman is. Only where are the insecurities? where is the fact that no one is perfect? Her over the top perfect modern woman thing is just not me. I have seen if before I just can’t identify. I have flaws, I have insecurities and am nowhere near the chick that’s going to come up to the hot guy and tell him “I have the condoms” and just randomly jump his bones. I like to read about characters with room to grow, not a fake overly confident girl who is obviously peaking in high school, because she has nowhere else to go. I guess why I am trying to say in this review is for the author to just not try so hard. Make your character strong and amazing, but also with depth and room to grow. Give her some insecurities, let her be real...

The Varsity Rulebreaker by Ginger Scott is my first book of hers ever!
And it won't be the last!

I got this book on my radar on my to-read list for the first week of November for the book club.
And I can't believe it's the end of the series already.

Cannon one of the main characters in this book, I did not expect to like him this much, a level-headed guy, with a kind heart and passion for the sport.

Hollis on the other hand, so driven to pursue her dream, the ultimate firecracker who would not surrender in the face of a male-dominated environment.

Such a lovely quick read, I absolutely enjoyed it.

Shel: The last installment of this series, might be the best. It's a tough call because I've enjoyed them all but I really really love the story of Hollis and Cannon.

Court: I really think you're right! It is hard, because they were each so good on their own but I am really glad we get this series to really enjoy each couple, get the best of Ginger's writing, and also get a really great friend group that we get to see in various scenes in each book together. I love companion series and this one made me very happy!

Shel: Ginger Scott digs into the various challenges of being a female athlete trying to break into a male sport, in addition to the challenges it brings to a high schooler, at a new school, with your dad as the coach of the team. WOWZER. Hollis faces an uphill climb from the very beginning of this novel and it's a fairly unrelenting climb at that. Between sexist teammates and a parent who is on the warpath, it felt hopeless at times. It's interesting because at first even Cannon contributed to the strife and conflict that was at the heart of this novel. But it was oh so rewarding to see him quickly see the talent and perseverance Hollis had. Seeing him overcome some of his own personal struggles and really grow into the person who would be a match for Hollis was the perfect ending to this series. He'd been a mysterious guy in the background who was now one of main stars and having him plus our other favorites in the series have some page time made this such a fulfilling end to the series. Plus the series epilogue was just the cherry on top of the most delicious sundae.

Court: THANK THE LORD we get dual POV! That is what I think made this even better for me. We get in both of their heads, and they're really dealing with some pretty in depth problems...we get to see them navigate things that they go through a gamut of emotions for, and ultimately struggle with doing the right thing sometimes and what that is. It is the ideal coming of age novel, because they're seniors and dealing with some real world things for their lives and how they grow like Shel said and conquer (or don't) certain things is really good for making me think and how I would've responded in the same situation. Also, as usual, Ginger and her epic first kiss scene writing, as well as just how real these two are in their journey...just made me over the moon for this book!

Shel: While I'm sad to see these guys go (and am ever hopeful that we'll see them pop up in an anthology or a short piece), I'm so glad that I got to "meet" them. This series reminds me of some of the first novels of Ginger's that we read and are definitely now going in the "favorite" stack. Court: Yes, this is 100% a favorite! Her writing, as usual, is divine, and I absolutely LOVE this book!

I've truly enjoyed this Varsity series with Ginger Scott clearly a YA master creating these stories and wonderful characters. Cannon Jennings has been in the background in the first two books, a bit of a mystery to his persona and what he wants out of life. I thought he'd be a true player, since his time with Abby didn't turn out well and he seemed to be not all that caring about any girl. But when new girl Hollis rocks his world with a most unexpected kiss, watch out. The fact that they become rivals of sorts since both want to make the varsity baseball team makes this book all the most interesting with a girl bringing both Cannon and his teammates to their proverbial knees.

First off, I really loved Hollis. I felt for her and how the opposite sex can't stand at times that perhaps she could actually be a better catcher than most. Her tenuous relationship with Cannon's cousin Zack to me was at the center of this book, where family pressure made him less than welcoming to his newest teammate. Cannon had a tight rope to walk trying to say loyal to his cousin but wanting to tell the world how much Hollis meant to him. Those moments were done very well and the alternating POVs gave me the feelings and thoughts both Hollis and Cannon had for each other and the world around them. However, I didn't always feel their chemistry because perhaps for me, their love story took a backseat to all the drama that ensued wrt Hollis wanting to play baseball with the boys. Add in the fact that her father was the coach and you could see how that certainly took center stage more than once.

But what puzzles me still is how the book concluded. It felt rushed and incomplete. I would have assumed a family showdown was in the works since so much of this book was dedicated to showing how Zack's father wanted him as the star catcher, not Hollis. But that never materialized and instead we get a quick summary of how everyone got what they wanted in the end and all is well in the Jennings family. Yeah, we also get an update as to the entire Varsity crew and although I was grateful since this is the last book in the series, even that felt a bit lacking. I'm not sure why and it's probably a case of it's me, not you.

In the end, however, I'm more than glad I had the opportunity to read this book and the series as a whole. Ginger Scott clearly knows her stuff when it comes to matters of the heart with the younger set and I know I'll be a forever fan even when stories don't completely enamor me. Her characters are always well-thought-out and endearing and you can't help but get lost in their lives.

3 stars.

I adored this series. In each book, I’ve found a favourite couple and this one was no exception.
Hollis and Cannon had a great start until it wasn’t. So sweet and promising and in a blink of an eye turning into angst. I couldn't put it down. So addicting.

Ginger’s Scott sports YA was just such a journey. Sports melting with romance so inextricably linked. And the author did it great. Since it wasn’t that easy, writing about a woman’s place in a man’s sports, something that still nowadays is a work in progress.

There was something that instantly made me connect with the characters, Hollis was fierce, feisty and tough, because for most part of her life she had to fight and to show that she could be a man’s equal, by working harder. She wasn’t a damsel in distress and when she met Cannon, who might challenge her more than ever, she knew she was in trouble.
This character was totally someone readers could identify with.

Cannon was a mystery to me since I’ve met him in the previous book. I was intrigued by how people perceived him, somehow cold and indifferent. I felt that way in the beginning but this character was so much more, more complex, knowing how delicate this situation was, loyal to his family but also to Hollis who had totally captivated him.

Ginger Scott has a way to write about teenagers with blatant truth and issues they had to deal with were relevant. I appreciated that Hollis and Cannon didn’t go straight away with a love relationship but progressed into it by being friends, bonding naturally but still with that blurred line. I was so rooting for them. An undeniable and freaking amazing chemistry, giving me all the feels.

The duality between the main characters was interesting and captivating, like you wanted both to succeed and to make it happen. It explored how pressured and competitive it could be in the world of sports, intense competition, pressure from parents and others. I didn’t have a great knowledge of base-ball and the author seemed to have a deep understanding of the sport, making it easier to comprehend and more believable.

Varsity Rulebreaker is definitely a top favourite in sports romance, with characters driven by a strong passion and divided loyalties. Engaging and compelling.

Relocating to a new school and town for the sport he loves wasn't a big deal to Cannon Jennings, sure it's not as nice as his previous school, but being able to have his cousin in at catcher makes up for all of it. They have always wanted to accomplish their baseball dreams together and now they are going to get the chance. Nothing could possibly stand in their way now...

That is until they meet their new teammate and his cousin's fellow catcher, Hollis Taylor, she is the real deal, and also happens to be the coach's daughter. Which not only kicks up the competition a notch, but also has the potential to reek havoc on Cannon's plans. She is beautiful, snarky, smart... and far too tempting! It's a distraction he doesn't need, but wholeheartedly welcomes!

Between the pages of Varsity Rulebreaker lies a story about two aspiring big league baseball players that happen to not only find comradery on the field, but love too! Hollis first catches Cannon's eye at a New Years Eve party he is attending with his cousin, and it doesn't take them long to hit it off. They share common interests and some memorable banter, as well as a kiss at midnight too. Then when the next day rolls around Cannon learns that won't be the only thing they have in common. He knows that Hollis is going to catch a lot of flack for being the only female on the team, but he also knows she is tough as nails and can probably handle it. If not he will be there to catch her when she falls. Watching these two fall for one another and accomplish their dreams while doing it was thoroughly entertaining, and so good for the heart. Nothing is sweeter than young love! These two brought life to the pages with their witty one liners and fiery banter. And their emotional struggles and blossoming romance put a nice little squeeze on my heart... their story was perfect from start to finish! Highly recommend!

I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.

Calling all YA lovers! This book... so good. Yes, it's a YA genre, but it tackles some really important topics and has a beautiful character arc without unnecessary or unwarranted drama. From the first scene, there is great organic chemistry and growth. And that is a trait of Scott's writing; the characters and what they face are realistic and progress naturally. She's a YA writing benchmark in my book. Now let's talk about why this book kept me glued to my kindle and why it is a perfect match to the other two Varsity series books.

First and foremost: CANNON. If the cover wasn't enough to make you one-click the book, visualizing him pitching on the mound and getting to watch him become more man than boy will certainly get your finger clicking (LOL...take that as you may). He's an incredible baseball player who has never really been challenged in the way Hollis challenges him (just part of why they are a perfect match). But what really brings it home is watching his emotional and mental evolution is what pulls at your heart and conscience. He's what you want other young men to be. He's the boy you would like your daughter to date.

However, the catalyst to his growth and insight is Hollis. She has always faced battles because she is a girl playing on an all-boys team. Yeah, she's that good. But what makes her great is her character. Her strength and resolve are breathtaking. She gets knocked down, but she gets up again. This simply shines from the pages.

And when these two come together? Well, it's nothing short of great. Sure, they have to figure out what rules and they will follow and which are worth breaking. And that right there is another reason I couldn't put the book down. There are so many layers and nuances to this story. It's a mature YA book, but it's also insightful and inspiring. But then again, that's how Ginger Scott writes. And you'll find the same type of writing and insight in the other books in the series. Do yourself a favor and #one-click away!!
