Good start but loses something along the way. Finally average joe survives the apocalypse and must learn to live in a new society without food or electricity or laws. Ted is just your normal corporate jerk who becomes too full of himself and starts making bad decisions in his personal life. After the gas is dropped he becomes obsessed with finding his wife and kids who have just left him the day before. Ted has made some bad friends while climbing the ladder and it seems they have turned on him, his old boss and the hotel concierge at a place he frequents. This is a long story and I thought it was finished but not so. Book two apparently takes us on another five year journey according to the preview. Not sure I want to go down that long road again. I think what turned me off is that Ted suddenly becomes a trained mercenary after running into an old military man who trains him for months while on his quest to find his family. Lots of violence and gory details. Bottom line is Ted keeps going off on side adventures instead of looking for his family. The information never quite is enough to pinpoint their whereabouts just some vague directions about where they could be……and then Ted goes to another town to be in another fight that seems to take months. I liked the storyline though I learned nothing about real survival with food and water needs. By the end I didn’t really like Ted all that much anymore, he kinda turned into a snotty bully through the book so I wasn’t invested enough to see if he actually ever finds his family.

A Different Doomsday

This book had me glued from the first sentence.
The Author did a great job of describing a totally unique way of destroying civilization.
The Protagonist was very human and very believable.

Thoroughly enjoy this author and look forward to continuing this story. Easy read, always moving the plot along . Recommend this book
