A broken mind, a long road to recovery, a new threat from within, and a whole shitload of trouble.
Elena Jensen should be relieved, she should be happy, she should be free, but the powers she tapped into to destroy her greatest enemy came with a heavy price.
After months of training and therapy, she's returning to Alpha Wolf Academy, even though she isn't sure it's the best idea. Her future might be safe, but it's uncertain at best. The Sisterhood have been covering for her, keeping the Russian pack at bay, but Elena needs to decide, and soon, or risk anarchy.
Elena struggles to rebuild herself, to find control and her place, and is starting to feel like her old self when she's side-railed by two new students who seem to be out to get her. Bash and her friends just don't see it, but Elena can't shake the feeling that she isn't safe.
Doubting your own sanity makes seeing the wolf at the door a little bit harder.
This book picks up a few months after the events of Blood Moon. Elena has finally defeated her psychotic Uncle Viktor, but at a steep cost. She had to tap into her well of alpha powers to do it, and it’s a power she doesn’t fully understand, nor can she fully control. The sisterhood has sent a variety of people to help heal, and train, her. Their hope is that she will step into the void left by Viktor, and assume her rightful place as alpha of Russia. But she’s not sure she’s ready or if she even wants it.
I was rather disappointed that this wasn’t a stronger addition to this series. I have really enjoyed it so far. I think there’s several issues that are working against this book, at least for me;
(1) I think it’s kind of hard to maintain a positive view of a heroine under siege for 5 books and not have her devolve into self pity at some point. The problem here is that her self pity was so constant and pervasive that it negatively colored the book for me. I’m sure the author was going more for vulnerable but Elena spent most of the book breaking down in a fit of tears and seemed to belong more in a mental institution than training for alpha duties on a university campus. It was just so tiresome that at some point when she broke down into more tears, I just couldn’t find my last fuck to give her. I spent most of this book trying to figure out wtf was going on with her. 2 books ago, she and Bash make a pact to not keep things from each other and in the book, once again, she lies to him about what’s really going on in her psyche. I guess, I just didn’t like her at all in this book.
(2) Since we spent the entire book in Elena’s tortured head, I think it would have benefited the reader to have some relief, and a different perspective, if we could have had some of the story told by other POVs, like Bash or her close friends, or even some of the sisterhood members.
(3) I have a problem with authors that can’t seem to remember their own plot devices from one book to the next.
(4) Did we really need 5 books to tell this story? Sure, I haven’t read the final book yet, but it does seem that with a bit of editing, this story could have been told in 2 books, 3 tops. I believe it definitely would have helped keep Elena’s self pitying to a minimum. I mean sure, she’s been through a lot, but I would have much rather have read her as a strong female lead that just kept pressing forward, even in the face of all these obstacles, and really appreciated the heavy mantle of “alpha” that fate has decreed for her, rather than somewhat petulant brat that spent the entire book with a definite “why me” whiny attitude.
I really was disappointed as up to this point, I have enjoyed this series. This book just left me very irritated with Elena and Bash rather than excited to see what happens next. I do plan on reading the final book, I just wish it didn’t feel like such a chore.
SYNOPSIS (of 5 Book Series): Poor girl gets a scholarship to an elite academy where she meets her soulmate and discovers that she is more than just another shiver. There is the required BFF and Queen Bitch as well as a full scale attack on the academy, shooting, kidnapping, torture and fight scenes with, ultimately, a HEA. The story arc covers the FC finding out who and what she is, how she copes with that discovery and the people trying to bring her down. There is a strong sub-plot around female wolves fighting for equality and against the predominantly patriarchal hierarchy.
First, a gripe. Book 1 was free and it was a decently well written story so I then bought Book 2. The price of over £4 for a book (apparently reduced from £11 - really?) that is just over 200 pages is ridiculous but I bit the bullet and bought it. I, unfortunately, then allowed myself to get sucked in to buying the remaining books to see the story arc through. I should not have wasted my money. My gripe is, (and I appreciate that I, of my own free will, bought the remaining books) that the author then did what I hate which is decide to milk her readers and drag the story out over a further 3 (short) books when the story would have been better served to be over 3 at most. Each book had less content with Book 4 barely being worth reading considering what it added (or didn’t add) to the story. I was skimming by the time I reached Book 5 only to have the climax end up as one of those ones where the author disappears up their own a@$e and decides to introduce allegory as oppose to actual clear description into the final fight scene. The result is that you don’t really understand what is happening and the flow is severely interrupted. There’s no real satisfaction of the bad guys getting their just desserts and questions are left unanswered. The whole climax was a waste of time. If I could go back I would not buy any of these books.
The editing through this series is not good with annoying editing issues where incorrect words used. This is jarring and ruins the flow of any story. How hard is it for authors to publish properly edited books?
I found it ironic that the FC is this story wants to be a writer and there are parts of the story where the FC is being given advice on the novel she is writing. It is ironic because this author could do with taking her own advice. There are so many gaps in the story arc that it becomes more than annoying. Examples: - When Book 2 starts you are told that months have passed since the events ending Book 1 yet there is no close out of what happened after the attack on the school and the rescue. What happened to Xavier? How did the rescuers arrive at the school? What did the FC do over the intervening months and at Christmas etc? How did Danielle react? - In Book 2 the FC & MC are at a party and we are told there’s a scream with people running away. Then suddenly the FC is back in her room. No explanation as to what the scream was about or what happened. - In Book 3 we are again told that months have passed since the events ending Book 2 but no open questions are answered. What happened with Ben, Jared etc? Did the FC’s relationship with Daniela change? Why wasn’t Viktor captured, how did he get away? How did they find the FC? - In Book 4 there is, yet again, a gap between the events of Book 3 and the start of Book 4 and more open questions. We don’t really get a clear picture of what the FC did to escape, just some allusions to dead bodies, no clarity on what happened to Xavier until a brief mentioned some way into Book 4 and no clarity on how the FC was rescued. - Why, at no point, did the FC ask who Ariana and Ryder were and how they just suddenly popped up at the academy?
The gaps become more annoying towards the end of Book 5. How can an author draw a story out over so many books with such drivel padding it out and then leave so many open questions when the series is “finished”? What happened to the whole story line about the attacks on the Sisterhood? How does the FC move forwards with her powers? What happened to Adriana? What the hell was the fight with the guy with the crowbar all about? What about the MC’s family and his grandfather - was the FC ever actually introduced to is family?
I’d like to give a specific should out to Book 4 which was just a complete waste of space and simply full of the FC and her angst. By this point I found the FC annoying and weak. Despite the author trying to show her as kick ass I found her the opposite. No real strength of character or fighting spirit and completely self absorbed. Everything was about her.
There are Irritating inconsistencies with timelines such as reference to the FC only becoming soul mates after knowing MC for 6 months then a reference to FC being with MC for almost 6 months yet she’s been at the school for almost a year at that point; reference to it being a year since the attack then to FC knowing Rory for almost a year when she met her prior to the attack. Months passing between the end and beginning of each book with no real clarity as to what has gone on during that period.
As mentioned, this author is a believer on padding out a story and there are constant recappings of prior story ie how Daniela was a bitch. Seriously, how many times can an author write the same thing. Whilst it is vaguely acceptable to do a recap at the beginning of a book as to the previous book to keep recapping sections throughout a book is just annoying and repetitive.
One of the comments that the FC receives on her writing is around fleshing out characters. This author really needs to take that advice. Whilst there is a degree of depth to the supporting characters (although you never get any real back story on their families or lives prior to meeting the FC) I felt that the MC was very superficial. Interactions with the MC seemed to consist of either sex or descriptions of their mental mate bond. You get very little in terms of real interactions between the FC and the MC. In fact most of the interactions are between the female characters which I found very strange. When exactly did the MC & FC spend time together that was not having sex? Whilst there are vague references to the MC’s grandfather you don’t actually meet him or the MC’s parents so you get no real backstory or development of the MC’s character. He comes across as relatively weak in reality with the FC doing all the fighting. There’s no alpha male here.
Elena is back & she's broken. She's having a hard time coping with killing her uncle, but she knows she has to find a way. She's been keeping her internal struggles a secret from Bash, and when she finally lets him in so he can see what she's been dealing with, he tells her to get out & then he takes off without a word to her. Luckily, he isn't gone long because there's a new threat to Elena in the form of 2 new students. She can't figure out why they set her internal danger radar off every time she sees them, but they do. She also learns that there are some antiquated laws for a challenge for the alphaship, and for the Russian pack that includes a challenge to the death. Just when things are starting to look up for Elena, and one of the 2 new students finally lets it be known exactly who he is & what he wants. Cliffhanger!!
I love Elena. She's a strong character that is multifaceted in the fact that she has a lot going on at the same time & she has to stretch herself to handle it all. She even confronts Connor about how he's treating Daniella. Great continuation with lots of intrigue and some steamy scenes with Bash. I can't wait for the series conclusion.
Bad Moon by JJ King is the fourth book in the Alpha Wolf Academy, and picks up shortly after book three takes place, so if you haven't read the first three books, you DO need to read them first if you really don't want to become confused, though if you feel like being brave, you can muddle your way through by reading this on it's own.
Elena is a young, intelligent, woman, coming into her own and finally able to standing on her own two (or four) feet, learning more about the people she can and cannot trust. Bad Blood does a great job leading up to Full Moon, the fifth and final book, and I can't wait until February 04, 2021 for its release.
I have read several books by JJ King and her books only seem to get better with each new release. If you haven't read a book by Ms. King, I suggest you start with her Guardian trilogy which leads up to the Alpha Wolf Academy, then give the AWA a try. You won't be disappointed.
Bad Moon is the 4th book in the Alpha Wolf Academy series. It picks up where Blood Moon ends, with the aftermath of Elena killing her Uncle Viktor. JJ King does a wonderful job of taking Elena through this journey to become the alpha she was born to be. Her friends and mate are maturing and becoming the trusted support that she needs to become Alpha of Russia. Women taking on the patriarchal society in the supernatural world is similar to what we see happening in the real world in many ways. King does a good job of showing that equality does not weaken the position of those who have been in power; it actually strengthens and empowers.
The story is an easy read that I could not put down. Trouble seems to be around the corner at every bend. Intrigue, action, a bit of mystery, a few twists that make you talk out loud, and some steamy scenes make this a must-read book.

Elena and crew are back in the fourth installment of AWA. Elena was rescued by those in the pack. They helped cocoon her while she recovered with Bash from the torture and attacks. She struggles with the darkness that permeates her soul. She feels completely off and wants to climb back into the quiet, the nothingness. She is a walking zombie and finally starts to fight her way back with her friends and Bash’s help. More female leaders will be attacked and ancient laws will once again come into play. Will she accept the Alphaship of the Russian pack? Who are the new kids in school that bring out such abhorrence from her? Why are they mean and nasty to her? Will the plans Daniella make for the school set things right again? Will Elena be able to stand by the decision she will make? The answer to this is found within these pages…and so much more…be prepared for another cliffhanger…Elena is in danger once again…but from new enemies! I feel like this will be an unpopular opinion, but I am not a fan of Daniella and Connor. First off didn't she think someone else was her mate in the last book. I don't like that the guy Elena lost her virginity to is now sleeping with her mates' twin it's weird and the Twilight-ish explanation like, ya'll were only attracted because eventually Elena's mate will have a twin and you'll have a connection to her so ya'll are somehow feeling the pull of your mates through each other. OK Rant over lol other than this I've enjoyed the book. It's a bit predictable and sometimes long-winded with her self-doubt but the story and world are fascinating. I hope we learn more about Bash it's weird how Elena's original mentor told her to give more to her supporting characters yet this author hasn't done that with her own supporting characters.
A long road to recovery. Elena’s recovery from what Viktor did to her is taking a long time. She feels disassociated from everyone. She’s hurting, angry, and remorseful. Because Viktor kill all of those students trying to get to her she feels she’s to blame. But with the help of the Sisterhood, her friends, and Bash she is finally coming around. Until she finds out there is an old law on the books in Russia and she isn’t necessarily a shoe in for alpha. Anyone related to the previous alpha can fight her to the death for the position. She needs to talk to Bash and decide does she really want the alphaship? But just when she decides she doesn’t, someone comes forward and she can’t allow another evil psychopath to become alpha. Another fun book in this series! This time we follow Elena as she recovers from another, and worse, trauma than ever before. She fights to control her emotions, her memories, and her alpha powers while trying to go to school and maintain her friendships and her relationship.
I enjoyed where this book went, and how things ended. I liked how the relationships developed and evolved in the book for the better. I appreciated the real life struggles and how they were overcome. I am interested to see how Chadwick plays into all this, I hope that is expanded on more in book 5. This book focuses more on inner demons and self control which I think is necessary to set things up for the finale.
I am excited to see how things play out in the next book, and as it's the final book I am anxious to see how everyone's lives end up.

Wow, it was a little slow start, but boy when it got going you did not want to put it down. We have mystery, suspense and heartache. Elena has finally wakened up, but she is worried about her powers and what she did. With therapy can she get past everything? Can she control the voices? Now not only all this we have new characters that are rubbing her wrong? Who are they? Why does no-one but her feel their evil? When she lets Bash know about everything will he forgive her? Will her friends ever feel save around her? So many emotions which will she ever be sane again?

JJ King continues to enthrall and captivate her audience with Bad Moon, the latest addition to the Alpha Wolf Academy series. Elena has been through hell and been pulled back from the fire several times. Her living hell, is battling her inner turmoil and trying to function normally. Her world seems to almost balance itself out, when a new danger is scented on the wind. Change is coming, be it the chsnge of leadership or the change in life.

Adult content, reader discretion advised. Elena had been fighting since the first book in the series. This book, and not until the very end did she seem to find her strength. This book was entirely character development. It was sorely needed and was skillfully executed. Now that she is coming into her own, I am looking forward to how that will change how she fights in the next book.
Holy moons bane this book left me completely shocked and gasping. I loved every second of this! The whole series plot keeps getting better dare I say this book series is almost better than the Buffy tv series! I can not wait to get my paws on the next final book because I’m sure it’ll be just as epic as this book!
I had a hard time with Elena in this story. I knew she was struggling with her alpha powers and guilt and fear, but, she is still a young woman who suffered tragedies. This story really brings to light the struggle and strength of a young woman coming into her own! Simply beautiful
There always seems to be a threat to Elena when it comes to her claim to the Russian pack. New students on campus who are visibly hostile for no reason. Trying to get over the trauma of the previous year and now there are new hostilities and the campus gossips blame all of last years tragedy on Elena.
Well...at least this one ended alright. Not happy because I have to wait but seriously?? I have no words to describe the feelings this series have drawn out of me. I need to finish it. I can't wait
This book just keep getting better and better and better as I read it I cannot wait to find out what happens in it I'm so excited for Connor and Daniela I'm so glad they found out the truth about Riker I'm ready for the next one
This series just keeps getting better. I love Elena she has grown since book 1. She has over come many enemies. Her relationship with Bash is amazing. How he is ther for her and helps her anyway he can. There are a few questions I hope book 5 answer. That will the last book. J.J King you did it again.
Allow a full day for this NC17 fourth book in the Alpha Wolf Academy series as Elena starts her second year while still recovering from what happened in Book 3, Blood Moon.

This book and all of them are a great read from the guardians to beta wolf academy I have red them to start to finish and can’t wait for the next one to come out
This book certainly doesn't start where the last book left off, so be ready for a time jump. But it does have a flashback to the damage inflicted in the previous book. Our broken heroine is still trying to recover from being a survivor and fighting for her life. This book definitely digs deeper into Elena and Bash's connection, Elena's sanity, and her decision to become the alpha of Russia. I love that in this book, Elena opened up more about herself and her alpha powers. Our heroine starts to be more normal again, laughing with friends, talking with friends, and even with her mate. However, new students on campus cause a problem. She has a massive decision to make that will determine her future. I was surprised how this book culminated, and the twist at the end was shocking. Like many novels in this series, this one didn't get to the tipping point till the end. Can't wait for the final book on this series and dying to know the outcome.
With each victory comes more trauma and more new challenges. Elena thought with her Uncle gone she’s have time to truly come to terms with her new reality, but everything quickly changes as the new school year begins. This time it was less action oriented and focused more on the characters as well as building up for what’s to come. Old trauma, secrets, lies, and hidden foes lay ahead but nothing ever comes easy.

I love how this book was all about Elena. Learning how to master her alpha voice, learning how to master the voices in her head, learning about her past... But also about her trying to find her place in the world, trying to decide what to do. And even though she has new enemies and after the shock learning who this enemy is, the book is still a book of growth. Loved it but can't wait for the next, need it ASAP
Elena need time to recuperate, to find herself again. It’s all about getting to themselves, growing and maturing. Her friends and her mate are there for her. The book is starting slowly but then captivating our whole attention. It was a page turner which let us appreciate development of the characters. Can’t wait for final installment.
