What a fun feel good story this was. This was the fifth book in Christi Barlow‘s heartwarming Love Heart Lane series. each book in the series can definitely be read as a standalone, however there are appearances from characters in the previous books. Ella has reach rock-bottom. After the tragic death of her parents Ella met a man she thought was the love of her life who then turned out to be a complete scoundrel. Unwilling to give up Ella takes her friend Callie up on her offer to move to Heartcross. Heartcross is the definite cure. Not only does Ella have a new great job, make new wonderful friends, but she also meets the perfect man.

Loved this Story! The wonderful whimsical characters, the charming delightful setting, the friendship, the romance, the love. Ella was such a great character I loved how much spunk and trust she had even though she had gone through so much. Roman the love interest was probably too good to be true, but hey a girl can dream. Gorgeous, kind, smart, supportive, caring. The setting of the Lake House was perfection. A gorgeous manor with a magical history and a stunning setting, with the only way to get to it by boat. can’t wait for the next book in the series, I’m thinking it’s going to be Callie‘s turn.

This book in emojis 🛥 🥂 🌅 🌈 🎼

Heartcross sounds a bit like Hotel California as once people come, they “never leave.” I adored the character of Roman, of course, he could only exist between the covers of a book as he is too good to be true. I’m enjoying this sweet series as the storylines are relatable, the characters are likable, and each book can stand alone quite well with the previously featured characters and locals continuing on with updated storylines in subsequent volumes. And no obnoxious cliffhangers insight. This is how a series should be!

The Lake House is the fifth book in the Love Heart Lane series by Christie Barlow and the fun thing about it is there are so many characters from previous books in it.
Ella is beside herself when after her parent's death but then she meets a man who she believes is the one.
A rich doctor, they had so many plans together that it all seemed too good to be true. Until that's exactly what happened, she was hoodwinked, left holding the bag, owing all the bills. Sometimes in life though we have to go through trials before we can really appreciate what is to come. Her friend rescues her from her devastation and whisks her off to a Scottish delight, The Lake House. A former popular night spot and classy restaurant Ella and friends have an exciting plan to bring the little House on The Lake back to its former glory days with the help of a famous singer that everyone loves and is clamoring to hear sing again.
Such a quick and easy read. A real pick me up and a chance at a real and lasting love this time. I loved the chemistry between Ella and water taxi driver Roma. Great plot and relatable characters and location. I can't wait to read more in this charming series.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Lake House was a pretty cute book to dive into. In it, you will meet Ella. Her life isn't so great at the moment because she has definitely hit rock bottom. Which is completely understandable due to what happened. Not sure how I would be able to adapt after my parents tragically died because I would definitely be an emotional hot mess. Then on top of that, the man of her dreams turned out to be horrible.

After all of this has happened, she decides to move to Heartcross. I mean, she definitely needs a change of scenery and people at this point. So I was all for this big decision she was making and I couldn't wait to see what this town would offer her.

Honestly, this book was just really freaking cute. I was so happy with what happened after Ella moved. She met some really awesome people and a cute man to love. It was just really nice to see her pick herself up and go after what she wants.

In the end, she got betrayed but still learned to fall back in love... with the right man, town, and people. Definitely a cute book to dive into on a rainy day.

A picturesque setting, loving characters, an atmosphere of warmth and goodwill stood at the backdrop of this book with some terrific writing by author Christie Barlow.

I needed something light yet substantial to mark the end of the year. Having not read the series, this was book 5, didnt hamper my enjoyment in any way. I loved getting to know both the characters, Ella and Roman.

Having been cheated out of her money and betrayed in love, Ella had to make a new start. And the village of Heartcross was the right place to start life anew. Roman was just the person to help her sail through rough waters.

The words juxtaposed on paper marked its significance on my heart. I felt happy reading the book as if I were starting life with Ella. Roman as her love interest too had his own secrets, and it was fun to see their chemistry blossom.

The Lake House was a complete feel-good story with a villain to add spice to their lives. Heartbreak, friendship, and love were at its core and beautiful prose evoking my emotions gave it a delightful flight.

We meet Ella when she is seriously down on her luck. Life has been pretty cruel to her but hopefully that is all about to change thanks to her friend Callie and the magic of Heartcross.

Heartcross and it’s residents is a wonderful village and as with the other books in the series, I felt like I was coming home and being back amongst good friends. I love the community feel, with the good friendships and how everyone wants to support each other. You can’t help but feel your heart lift in spirits when reading this book.

The story focuses on Ella and Roman, both characters were lovely and I enjoyed seeing the chemistry between them blossoming. It’s such a feel good read and I especially loved the storyline to do with Dolores.

The Lake House is a story that will have you drifting away from reality and being caught up in this wonderful tale of fiction. It’s pure escapism at it’s best. The author has created such an idyllic setting with great characters that you won’t want to be anywhere other than inside it’s pages. I am so loving this series and they are books you can revisit over and over again and get just as much enjoyment as you do first time round in reading them.

It is always good to be back in Heartcross, and this was no exception. Christie Barlow has once again penned a tale that I couldn't put down and loved every second of.

But yet although I was interested in Ella's story, really loved Roman on first sight, it is Dolores who is without a doubt the star of this book.

Well that and The Lake House restaurant itself is rather key to the whole story too, and as always it was lovely to catch up with all the familiar faces from the previous books in the series. But don't worry if you haven't read them, this is an all new story and can easily be read as a standalone.

Ella moves to Heartcross when she needs a fresh start and from the moment she arrives is shocked how welcoming and friendly everyone is. She also very quickly gets to know her neighbour Dolores who although I've said she is the star of the book, I really don't want to discuss as her story is on the whole so joyous, you may as well enjoy it fresh!

Oh and Roman, our gorgeous boatman, who Ella senses isn't being entirely open initially, but whether you will piece it together before finding out the answer is another matter.

And if you want a villain, then the man which has caused Ella to retreat to Heartcross is certainly someone you can enjoy hating!

I just love this fabulous sense of community, I felt right at home within pages of starting the book, and could barely put it down over the afternoon I read it in. It's just Christie Barlow writing another brilliant book, what more could a girl want, other than the next book already!

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

“The Lake House " the 5th instalment in the Love Heart Lane series by Christie Barlow. What can I say other than I loved it and read in one day. I’m adding author to my favourites list and I have purchased the previous books in the series. Who doesn’t want to escape to a small village in Scotland...

The setting of a tiny village called Heartcross and its healing powers on your heart, self worth and just a feeling of community is heart warming especially today.

I found the characters to be well developed, and multi-dimensional. There were multiple sub-plots to keep you engaged and interested in the outcome. It's the story of a woman who finds herself while picking up the pieces after her parents,, friendship and love.

I will definitely read other books by this author.

I highly recommend this author and series.

I requested and received an advance reader copy of this book from One More Chapter and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am ashamed to admit that I haven't read anything from Christie Barlow but I blooming loved this.

After the first chapter I didn't know where this story was heading as I hadn't read the blurb and I am so glad I didn't what a beautiful read.

I loved all the characters and I was totally engrossed in the plot. Delores sounds a ball and Roman is easy on the eye.

A fab read about friends always there for each other, love and heartbreak.

If I ever move away from London somewhere like Heartcross would be perfect, welcoming and friendly with beautiful views it's sounds like a pure delight.

I now want to go and read the other 4 in the Love Heart Lane series.

A massive 5 hearts from me ❤❤❤❤❤

I was really quite excited when I saw this book was available for download as I have absolutely loved the series so far.
This one was good, but I felt it missed something, but not sure what.
I think that I missed the camaraderie of a few more of the villagers that usually leave me with a warm glow.
A few were in it, but not as much as I have enjoyed in previous books.
I did like the story, very much, and the beginning was excellent.
I thought that it was going to end a little bit differently too.
All in all, another great chapter in the Heartcross village

This book is just brilliant! It's book number 5 of the Love Heart Lane Series and even though I loved every one of the 4th first books, I can say that number 5 is the best in my point of view! Right from the first chapter you are totally hooked and just want to know what is going to happen! It's such a great read, a pager tuner! It's full of mysteries and secrets and it is just so good! Also this book can be read as a stand-alone, you don't have to read the first 4 books to understand what is going on! I recommend this book at 100%! You won't regret buying it!

Ella is working at the Lake House and needs to help raise it's profile so that everyone can enjoy everything that the exclusive restaurant has to offer. It really does have a romantic setting which makes you want to jump onboard the boat ferrying people across.
There is a spark of romance in the air and then a wonderful character steamrolls her way into the story. Dolores is absolutely delightful. One of life's eccentric souls that brighten up the fabric of life. She's acting as a saviour and you really enjoy every encounter.
I always enjoy Christie Barlows books and would heartily recommend this one.

The magic of Heartcross is at work again in this brilliant 5th instalment in the Love Heart Lane series. Ella has had her share of bad luck in the last 6 months and moving to Heartcross to live with her best friend Callie, is just what she needs to rebuild her life.
Meeting up with familiar faces in the village was lovely and reminded me of how Christie Barlow is able to capture our emotions and take us away from reality into her world of heartwarming people and places.
Ella and Roman had great chemistry from the start and Delores was brilliant, with her zest for life. I’d have loved to sit down with a piece of Victoria sandwich and listen to her story.

Don't think reading less is going to happen again this year either, that's already book #2 finished 🤦‍♀️

I didn't realise this was part of a series, but definitely going to be hunting the rest of them down now.

I love these little books & set in the tiny village of Heartcross, this was one of those books that makes you feel you are on a personal level with the characters, making them feel more like friends.

Romance wise you knew what was going to happen very early on, but it didn't distract from the beautiful scenery that this style of writing helped me envision what Heartcross & The Lake House were like, it sounds such an idyllic place to live.

Many thanks to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review

Oh my gosh, folks! This right here is definitely a new fav of mine! Sooo good. It just got better and better with every turn of the page! For starters, lovely cover art! And although this is apparently part of a series, that I have never read before this, I still managed to understand everything very well. It was basically a stand alone novel in its own right and I loved it from front cover, to back cover. First thing that got me really interested after the cover art, was actually the dedication page. It was really bold and direct of the author to dedicate the book to her ex and I can appreciate that in every sense. Well done! Strong woman. Also, the beginning breakup that happens to kick off the rest of the plot is so unique and I’ve personally never read one like that before. Another well done! The whole concept of The Lake House and the unusual details taken to the usual used romance tropes were a real treat and very refreshing! I hungered for more with every page turn. Very well written, solid plot. Executed perfectly. 5/5 stars on the Goodreads scale, and will also be earning a sacred spot in my personal library once it comes out in paperback officially. One of the best I’ve read this year. And that’s all I got to say about that. Until next time, happy reading. -Caroline

Crank Freddie Mercury’s song “How Can I Go On,” grab the crystal decanter and pour a wee sherry tipple, cut yourself a generous slice of freshly baked Victoria Sponge Cake and get your copy of Christie Barlow’s ‘The Lake House,' because you are in for a heartwarming read with book 5 of the Love Heart Lane series set in the Scottish Highlands.

Ella Johnson has dealt with more than her fair share of heartache. Her parents have recently passed away and now her fiancé, Dr. Alex James, is missing. As if that wasn’t enough, the police have just informed her that he’s emptied her bank account of her parent’s 250,000-pound inheritance and racked up a 10,000-pound debt on her credit card! Six months later with 10 pounds to her name and a best friend at her side, she leaves Chester, England and boards a train headed for Inverness, Scotland. Will she be able to put her past behind her and start afresh? Will her past come back to haunt her? Will she ever be able to repay her debts?

Heartcross Village, not far from Inverness in the Scottish Highlands, is home to an eclectic bunch of lovely people with big hearts; a legendary actor, a TV supervet, a famous chef and her highschool bestie, Callie. Heartcross is the place where friends are there for you no matter what and Ella is about to find out that her time in this quaint little village is just what she needs. Don’t we all need a visit to Heartcross after almost a year in pandemic conditions? I think so!

What a delightful read! Barlow has crafted a charming cast of characters who will instantly make their way into your heart. I would love to grab a broom handle, belt out Freddie Mercury hits into my ‘microphone’, and eat cake for breakfast with the village’s 90-something-year-old, Diva Dolores Henderson. This marvellously written and clean romance novel has everything you’d expect; delightful characters, a picturesque setting, a deaf sausage stealing dog, a girl trying to heal her broken heart, a village heartthrob, and a bistro that holds long-forgotten memories. Barlow's story is a binge-worthy easy read that will pull at your heartstrings and stay in your thoughts long after reading. It reads like a hug and an encouraging pat on the back. I was so excited to discover this heartwarming series and although this is book 5, it can stand alone. There’s no doubt I’ll be quickly reading books 1-4 as Barlow has book 6, Primrose Park, ready for publication on April 30, 2021.

Thank you to Christie Barlow, Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is book #5 in the Love Heart Lane series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read easily as a standalone book. We are back in the beautiful village of Heartcross in the Scottish Highlands where Ella Johnson has come to stay with her friend Callie following a disastrous relationship. Callie has managed to get her a job as a waitress at The Lake House, a fancy restaurant only accessible by a water taxi, which just happens to be piloted by the handsome Roman Docherty.

I’ve read all of the books in this series and I have to admit, whilst I love them all, this is definitely my favourite! It’s great to be back again in Heartcross, meeting all its fabulous residents again. Most of them do take a back seat in this book, with the storyline focusing on the two main characters, Ella and Roman. I love Ella’s character and really felt for her at the beginning when she realises she’s been well and truly duped by Dr Alex James. Thankfully there’s nothing like a good friend to help pick up the pieces, and I just knew that when Callie took Ella to Heartcross she'd never leave there!! I love Roman’s character, but in a different way to Ella's!! Roman is definitely boyfriend material and his sex appeal oozes out of every page, so much so that I found myself looking up train times to Heartcross!! Who couldn’t fail to be captivated by his dazzling smile and charming personality, but as the course of true love never runs smoothly we are kept waiting to see if Ella falls for his charms!

The storyline is enchanting and grabbed me at the very first page. The story flowed perfectly throughout throwing secrets, dramas and of course romance into the pot as we went along. I loved The Lake House and I could just picture the fabulous images of it coming into view from the water taxi. Newly renovated and in much need of some more custom, I loved Ella’s ideas to bring it into the spotlight, with the ending being heart-warming and emotional, bringing a tear to my eye.

If you’re looking for a bit of escapism from the world at the moment, then look no further!! Take a trip up to the Scottish Highlands from the comfort of your own home and visit Ella, Roman and the rest of the villagers. This is a delightful, easy to read and fun story of love and friendships, that will make you laugh and pull at your heartstrings in equal measures!! Fantastic writing and lovable characters, this book will leave you wanting more!! Roll on book #6!!!

I have been in Heartcross since the very beginning, a village in Scotland which is unique because the love that emanates from the whole community will drag you in and hold you there in its heart. That goes for the readers as well as the characters!

Callie brings her friend, Ella to live with her in Heartcross. Ella has hit rock bottom over the last 6 months or so after losing her parents, her heart and her inheritance. She needs to escape and recuperate and what better place than with Callie the only friend who stood by her.

Sharing a flat with Callie, Ella gets to meet her new neighbour Dolores, who is a star. She has a past and when Ella discovers that her past involves singing and singing at The Lake House where Ella is now working it seems that everything is meant to be.

The Lake House whilst trying to be unique as a restaurant (it is only accessible by boat) is losing money and they need to do something to keep a float. As does Roman the boat's main skipper to the restaurant, he is trying to keep it all together when life has dealt him a bitter blow and he needs some support.

In steps Ella and Dolores and what follows is a captivating tale of showing everyone that there is always a second chance and even a last chance in life to have what you want and be loved wholeheartedly.

If you have been in Heartcross since the beginning then you will see some of the regular characters pop in and out of the story, but this book's focus is very much on Ella, Roman and Dolores. There is some real depth to the storyline and some frightening episodes which make you question what we believe and who we trust.

A novel that had me hooked and I devoured it quickly as I was so invested in Ella and what had happened to her, that I wanted to see her succeed and show that she and in fact everyone can come back stronger.

Great addition to the series and I implore you to read them all - you won't be disappointed.

I was sent an electronic advanced readers copy of The Lake House by Christie Barlow from NetGalley and the publisher and I am so appreciative. I really enjoyed reading this romance novel.

Ella is really down on her luck at the beginning of the story. Her parents recently passed away and the man she thought she was going to marry turns out to be a thieving, manipulative liar. Needing a fresh start she leaves her city life behind and moves to a small town in Scotland with her best friend Callie.

Immediately Ella starts making friends and finding her place in Heartcross. I thought the author did a great job of developing Ella's character - she is so lovable and readers can really root for her success. Ella meets Roman, the most eligible bachelor in Heartcross, and they click instantly.

The plot revolves around the restaurant Ella works at called The Lake House. Business is alarmingly slow and Ella, Roman, Callie and the owner, Flynn, brainstorm ways to restore The Lake House to its former glory.
My favourite character is Dolores! She's so eccentric and inspiring, it was satisfying to see her get her happy ending as well.

This book is the 5th in the series and while I do think it is able to stand alone, I would recommend readers start from the beginning in order to be fully invested in the story and the characters, to fully enjoy the Love Heart Lane experience.
I'm rating this book 4/5. It's an enjoyably charming, light read with a happy ending for everyone.

I liked the cosy village of Heartcross and I also liked the idea of the story: a restaurant in need of rescue and a couple of likable characters.

However, I felt that everything was told in fast-forward-mode. After only 2 days in Heartcross, Ella has THE idea how to save the beautiful restautant in a gorgeous location with the most delicious food by a highly qualified chef. It has only one problem: more staff than customers (nevermind the fact that owner Flynn just gave Ella a waitressing job, although he obviously doesn't need more employees but paying guests!).
At the same time, after only meeting a guy only twice, she urges him to not keep everything bottled up but confide his innermost secrets to her.

The rest of the story then went without a hitch, everything falling into place perfectly. All problems solved so very easily, and a grande finale with an annoying number of "Thank you" thrown in Ella's direction. "This is so surreal" exclaims Dolores at the big event in her honour, and yes, it seems to me that it really is.

This author's ability, to create a fictional world with believable characters and events, guarantees a lovely escapist read. The Lake House is the fifth story in the Love Heart Lane series, but the story is complete and readable as a standalone.

Ella is looking for a new start and finds a caring community in Heartcross. The Lake House restaurant is a vivid setting. The friendship and romance are realistic, as Ellia and Roman learn to trust and fall in love. Dolores is a pivotal and vibrant character in this book, which immerses the reader, in a world of hope, but with relatable conflict, and a recognisable antagonist.

If you are looking for an uplifting read, this book is worth a read.

I loved this book and it’s the second Christie Barlow book to go on my ‘Favourites of the Year’ list for 2020, along with Starcross Manor.
The Love Heart Lane Series is fabulous. I get so swept up with the story that I feel like it's about my life too and I'm there in the book as one of the characters wondering why my name isn't mentioned.
This is book 5 in the series. They can be read as stand-alone as each book focuses on a different character, with villagers popping up from the other books.
After a bad year, broken-hearted Ella is rescued from her home in Chester by best friend Callie and whisked off to Scotland, to the beautiful village of Heartcross. Ella has nothing to her name, and the villagers always look out for each other. As they all say, once you go there you never want to leave. Callie lives in a flat above Hamish’s shop and lets Ella stay in her spare room and sorts her out with a waitressing job at the Lake House restaurant where she works. In the same building lives Hamish’s mother Dolores Henderson, who is in her nineties and wakes up the ladies every morning with her fabulous singing.
The Lake House is an old restaurant which has a glamorous past. It’s been owned by the Carter family forever and now Flynn Carter has renovated it and is trying to recreate the atmosphere from days gone by. It’s a tough time to be promoting somewhere, especially one that can only be reached by water taxi. However the water taxi really adds to the story, especially when it’s been driven by Roman.
No more from me, please just read it and find out for yourself. It’s got everything you could want from a book, the community spirit, family and love.
I absolutely loved it.

Ella had to make a new beginning after being robbed out of her money and deceived in love. And Heartcross village was the perfect place to start life anew. To help her sail through rough waters, Roman was just the guy.

Heartcross is a lovely village, and so are its people. I love the feeling of community with wonderful friendships and how everybody wants to help each other. When reading this book, you can’t help but feel your heart rise in spirits.

The Lake House is a story that’s going to make you wander away from reality and get swept up in this wonderful fiction story. At its finest, it is pure entertainment. The author has built such a picturesque world with fantastic characters that you won’t want to be anywhere other than inside the pages.

The Lake House by Christie Barlow is the 5th book in the Love Heart Lane Series, and my first book by this author. This book was easy to read and perfect for an escape from cold weather or the pandemic. I will be reading more books by this author, I highly recommend this book if you enjoy romances.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
