The best thing about poetry is genre is that it makes you feel things and is open to interpretation and that's what this book brilliantly offered.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me the book! 🙏
I absolutely love reading poetry, the interpretation that is taken by the reader varies from person to person. The written words by the author may have one interpretation but the reader may take it another way based on how those words fit their life. Michael truly has a gift when it comes to writing poetry. I earlier this year read his book of Poetry titled Fog. It was published in 2023. This book was his earlier work, published 2020. Let's just say he has come a long way in a few short years. So many poems made me feel such raw emotions, there were tears shed. His words are strong and powerful, yet they are also gut wrenchingly emotional. You feel his words on the page. You will read each one and some will make you reflect on your own personal journeys and experiences. There are many different style themes to this collection. His poems, make your thoughts and feelings feel validated in some way. You will read about anger, passion, love, fear, addiction, tragedy, healing. The poems have clever word play, a rhythmic cadence, and a beautifully written way of visualizing every poem. I am so happy that I have found Michael's poetry, or should I say that I am so have that he has found me through the powers of social media. I was asked to read this book, and I am more than happy to voice my opinion. If you are truly one who enjoys Poetry, please pick up a copy or download a copy of his poetry books, you will not regret it.
The "Dirt" by Michael Lewis is a compilation of excellent poems about holding emotions and sensations by human heart.
The author compares his cycle of mental state to the mere combination of natural images that accompanying him in his living.
The word ''Dirt'' offers a strong message to every reader in coping the undulating dirt that all humans carry in their quest of materialistic ambitions and achieving their never-ending dreams and desires which, in turn, brings the world into the realm of profanity.
In another aspect, "Dirt" has the potential to bring happiness if one learns to embrace it and view it as a sort of art that governs the living universe.
His brilliancy in writing has allowed him to precisely position poetic devices. The emblem of nostalgia and motion of time are delicately represented by the use of metaphor.
The ongoing efforts to grapple between the delusional world and real world has put together in a kind of balanced way.
The act of acceptance and helpless state when it comes in cooperating with the nature for sustaining is something worth appreciable.
Moreover, the themes of wit, charm, chaos, courage, anguish, adventure, thirst, Inquisition, ethics, strength, guile, morality, trauma, dilemma, deeds, longing, tenacity, resilience, realism and unfulfilled love all appear in a way that indicates the author's propitious and fertile nature in his slice of thinking.
I’ve never reviewed a poem before and it is well out of my comfort zone so please bear with me. The collection of poems were well written and was not what I expected in a good way (not that I had much expectation or idea of what I’d be reading). The author has a way with words that made me reflect on aspects of my life and experiences I’ve had. The poems made me relate to certain instances and certainly had me thinking about what I just read. The poetry ranged in sweet and happy themes to grim poetry designed to make you feel and leave you pondering. Since there were so many different themes within the collection, it made me feel seen and happy that my thoughts and feelings are valid as well.
These poems include but are not limited to violent, romantic, uncouth themes and more.
If you like poems that: 🪨 Make you ponder about the excerpts after reading 💧 Make you feel an emotional turmoil 🔥 Make your thoughts and feelings validated 💨 And more
The collection of poems are for you.
Thank you to the author for allowing me to review their work.
Poetry always has the ability to make you think and reflect on your life and see it from a different perspective. That is what Dirt did. Michael Lewis does such a wonderful job of using his words to convey different perspectives of the world we live in. Dirt is a poetry collection that takes about topics such as anger, passion, love, fear, addiction, tragedy and healing.
Every poem in this collection was just beautiful and rhythmic in how it is read. I found myself re-reading multiple poems and found myself picking something new up each time. If you are a fan of poetry and looking for something to challenge you mindset, please give Dirt a chance!
Thank you to Michael Lewis for a copy in exchange for an honest review!
After reading Fog, I was very happy when Micheal Lewis suggested I read Dirt. This book is a collection of more than 200 rich in lived history, feelings and emotions. Micheal's words are powerful and allow us to explore anger, passion, love, sadness, fear, insecurity. In Dirt, the author begins to create his style that we see well developed in Fog (which is his last book). Frantic and rich writing, with sharp wordplay and a fitting rhythm. The interpretation of the poem is always personal and emotional. Some poems elicited mixed feelings from me, while others moved me.
My favorites were :
⭐Repeated Being
⭐Spilt Salt
⭐The sound of your eyes
⭐My soul picked it's dove
I thank the author very much for allowing me to read this collection.
This was my very first poetry book and definitely won’t be my last. Have to admit it wasn’t what I was expecting at all but my oh my does it reach some part’s of you from deep inside and make’s you feel a little hole again. I’ve never experienced this before at all but these poems had some very powerful way to really speak to you, some more than others. Truly was an amazing experience to read them. They really do have a bit of everything from life, love, tragedy, happiness, healing, pain and grief. Definitely give it a shot for something a little different completely worth it. 🫶🏻
I have read some of Lewis’ work before so was expecting good things. He did not disappoint. This collection is less intense, more focused on clever wordplay, but it still has that strong frenetic rhythm to it that is the poet’s voice.
In every archived retina’s file
Or every mannerism marked in sand
And all of what brings me youthful peace
And all of the pieces and all of the parts
Brings the silk to a blinded start
It speaks of real, of disembodiment, of those fears that we all keep to ourselves.
Sometimes I look at my watch to make sure
I’m still alive
Nothing reminds us we are dying like a
clock’s face
The Dead Devil, The World’s End and A Failed Activist were particular favourites for me. I like that visceral use of language that is shown so spectacularly here.
My being me is bled from a heart
I’m tranced at a pivot by you being kind
So be cold
But look sharp
And keep my being delicate
At the trough of a boil
Where once was a word spoken in friendship
Please chop it up in to feathered forks
And slice the unknown into two parts of wisdom
This isn’t a collection to step into lightly. The poet really lances his own pain and holds it up for all to see. If you want to be a spectator to that, I recommend this collection.
What a pleasure you have been
Like treasure like streams
Like sleeping grass that fluffs your gold
Like bounding wool that holds your head
I’ll break your heart
I’m disappearing
If I’m dying
I’m still alive
Lewis has a lyricism about him that reminds me of the Beat generation, it’s got that anger and that movement that can change an entire world. It’s frenetic and raw, but clever with it. He’s slick and sharp. A great poetic voice that should be heard. I award 5 stars.
Dirt is a poetry book written by the author Michael Lewis, published in May 2020. According to the book, everyone has dirt, and that should be celebrated. The poetry in this collection spans a decade and observes everything impolite, romantic, and violent. All of which is written with the grace of a filthy heart and implied by intense emotion. This book is a picturesque and evocative depiction of specific scenes as they unfold through Michael’s personal presence. The audience is captivated to read more because of this imaginative portrayal of Michael’s life, which includes both highs and lows. The reader is always left wanting more because Michael Lewis has managed to condense all of his horror, love, and darkness into manageable chunks. This book is great if you want to read about anger, addiction, passion, fear, and love. Each poem offers multiple meanings and speak to the readers in powerful ways. At 170 pages, it’s a pretty quick and easy read for anybody who enjoys poetry. Highly recommended from my side.
