Wolf Point Academy #1

Lone Wolf's Attack

Rate this book
Werewolves are anything but a fairytale for Melanie Lopez. Men with wolves in them are as vicious and rabid as they come, for only wild animals can truly tame their beasts. Women who carry wolves get ripped up from the inside out, unable to shift and sentenced to a painful death.

Mel's mother is on her deathbed, fighting back her wolf as it tries to claim her. The same thing will happen to Mel. She can already feel her wolf getting stronger. So she sets out on the hunt for a miracle cure, plus a bonus--the head of her mother's rapist. He told her to send his son to the Wolf Point Academy. Here, men--and only men--learn to control their wolves. Women are never welcome.

Until Mel forces her way in.

The customs are barbaric, the men even more so, and the treatment is hellish. The clock is ticking for her dying mother, but so is Mel's anger. These men are set on taming her. If that fails, they'll kill her without hesitation. Most of them are rich, muscular, brooding men with feral wolves prowling inside of them. Quite frankly, they're all assholes. Not to mention the only slightly trustworthy professor, Dr. Aspen.

Every girl's dream if she has daddy issues.

These men could be her and her mother's salvation... or her doom at this Academy. Besides, Mel doesn't have time for love or lust.

This lone wolf is on the attack and nothing will get in her way.

New to me author, Ms. Bobbie Jo Hart delights me and leaves me wanting more. I found this author through a trusted recommendation. I'm glad I picked up this book and read it. Mel is a female who is a wolf. But she can't shift. Because apparently female weres don't shift.

What I liked about this book is how Mel was raised. Many YA or NA paranormal books, the main character doesn't know anything about their background. Their parents "hide" information from them so that when a catastrophe event occurs, they are helpless nitwits. Ms. Hart does exactly what I had hope to see in a story. Her heroine, Mel is raised by a mother who loves her so much, that she prepares her daughter for the fight of her life. I loved this perspective.

I like that Mel is an angry person who rails at the injustice of her situation. Her bad attitude and chip on her shoulder creates a flawed character with room to grow. Her interactions with the secondary characters in this book are hostile and I find it amusing even if it isn't the best way to do it. She's making angry young female mistakes and its understandable. I like how she isn't perfect. I enjoy her snarky comments.

The world building is slowly revealed here and there. This is a variation of the werewolf mythos. I'm interested to see how Ms. Hart continues to develop this world. I eagerly look forward to the next book in the series. It can't come out soon enough! Recommended to YA and NA readers who like a BAMF female lead.

New reverse harem author, also new to me as a reader. This book involves an angry as hell mc. My thoughts are as follows. The author could rival Samuel L. Jackson's signature "motherfuc*er" phrase with the amount of times I read the word "bit*h." It didn't bother me, I found it comical. The men in this novel are chauvinistic at best, and the Mc doesn't put up with it. My suffrage felt it was in danger a time or two. It was a close call. Luckily, the longer you read, the men tone it down.
This book contains normal shifter behaviors with dominative and submissive behaviors.
I admire this mc's fighting style as I in fact will attempt to incorporate titty twisters into my future play scuffles with the husband.
I didn't feel any attraction or lovey dovey feelings in book 1, it was purely physical sexual attraction. So no instalove. At 91% you will be flabbergasted at this fighting tactic. *grins* I'm looking forward to book 2.

The author is Joely Sue Burkhart's daughter. Cool.

I absolutely loved every second of this book from start to finish. This story idea is amazing and unique, I loved that in this world only men are the ones who are "able" to shift into wolves but our MC doesn't take that idea lying down and forces her way into the all boys club in order to save herself and her mother. Mel is pretty amazing, I mean she is almost killed so many times during this book but is so strong and doesn't give in or take the shot the guys give without giving any back. The only thing I'm kinda confused about is who of the guys are going to be in her harem later on, I mean it's kinda obvious with some of them but not all of them or even a clear number of how many but this was only the first book so we still have time to work all that out. Overall this was a great first book and I cannot wait for more, especially since this one went by so fast.

Compelling plot makes up for weird writing

How many times can you have your main character bite their lip so hard it bleeds? There are other ways of conveying holding back snide comments. The driving tension is high enough it kept me reading and it was short enough I read it in a day. It feels like it was written in spurts because there were multiple times a line or phrase was used again like the author forgot they already used it. If you want a high stakes quick read with wolf shifters, this is a good choice. I'll likely read the next one if only to find out what happens to Mel.

Explosive debut

I've never encountered an author who's very first book has sucked me in the way this one did. I literally could not stop reading. Mel is angry. Oh so angry. But she has a vulnerable side as well that you get glimpses of. Shes not so angry you don't like her but she's angry enough you understand why. The men are confusing, her life is garbage, and her family is messed up(you will see what I mean). The world shes in is insane and brutal yet she has the strength to survive it. If she's willing. Well done. Cant wait for book 2

Eeeeek

I need more! Found out about this book through the author’s mom who is also an accomplished writer on Facebook . I’m so glad to see the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. With that said, I know this writer is her own person, but I can’t help but feel so excited to see a little bit of JSB in her writing but with some extra ooomph to make it her own. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I hope the female lead remains her badass self and that there’s more steam involved in the next!

Lots of hatred and violence towards females in this story about a female wolf shifter in a "only males count "shifter society.

Her mother is dying from her wolf being trapped inside her and not having a mate. Hard to explain that to the human doctors treating her mother, so she agrees to go East to a Wolf Point Academy to learn to handle her wolf and bring it out, so she can return to her mother and teach her before she dies. The only problem is that Wold Point is for men only, and it's literally a daily fight to get in and survive.

All the feels

I need book 2 like NOW! So I totally cried like a baby so many times throughout this book. Mel is such a strong independent woman who just wants to save her mom that she willingly goes to the one place that she knows she is not welcome. No matter how many times people say hurtful things, she always strikes back with quick snark! She is strong and I hope that with the unlikely friends she has made, she will be able to save her mom.

Holy moly, this was amazing!!!

I rarely buy books, but wanted to support a new author and I am SO happy I did!! This was a great book from the get go and I love Mel's attitude. I still don't get why females don't usually shift, but figured that's just how *this* world is. Can't wait for the next book!!!!!

Great read from a first time author!

I loved this book. I’m not always into bully romances but I really enjoyed the plot line for this one. Enough that I feel for the MC but not too much where I’m cringing everywhere. The snark and depth of the MC was wonderfully contrived. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series. Highly recommend!

Who knew letting go would let her find herself

This first book does a wonderful job of telling the story of Mel. Can she save her mom? Can she tame her wolf? So many questions I can’t wait to find out in future books. Will she find her place? Vengeance? Can she stay in the academy? Great first book, anxious to read future books from this author

A great first novel

I bought this one recommendation from an author I enjoy and it was a great choice. It is a unique twist on wolf shifter lore and though there are some difficult sections with some possible triggers based on assault, it still reads with fierce survival instincts. Looking forward to book 2

Loved this book though its hardly romance!

Nothing romantic about constantly being beaten, attacked and assaulted!

The only sex scene for me was more about her creating alliances than any kind of attraction or passion.

Notwithstanding its a fantastic book!

Great writing n kick arse fmc but the men are ALL arseholes every last one of them

Her first book? Can't believe it!

I can tell she comes from a very talented mother in the RH genre. Well thought out plot twists. Steamy scenes to make you want more and an ending that screams where is the next book!?! Congratulations Bobbie Jo! I look forward to reading more by you.

I downloaded Lone Wolf's Attack, book 1 of the Wolf Point Academy series, as a free ebook from Amazon. I enjoyed the storyline for this book. Mel could take it as well as dish it out, and it was nice to follow a character who didn't conform to expectations. Excellent series start, even though there were some holes, the fast pace didn't allow me to dwell on them.

They are ASSHOLES!

I cry with her :(...
The Alphas are the biggest ASSHOLES.
She is one badass female, but they overpower her. And the others stupids didn't to nothing!
Just because she's a female they make her life a living hell.
I HATED the headmaster!
The book ends when she achieves to shift.
I can't stop reading :)

I don't like smut and knew as soon as I saw this book it would contain just that. Still, because I had received it in a blind date with a book package, I gave it a chance. The plot was fairly interesting and the smut didn't come until about 50 pages to the end, but it is still not something I would choose.

Be warned, more violent than romance

I like the story line but he*&! That was a lot of violence on one girl. Ain't gonna lie. I cried a lot for a book that didn't actually have any Romance but a ton of violence. You have to push through it. Ready for book 2!

Interesting!

Good start to the series, I love how Mel is written. The men in the books annoy me and I really hope they grow backbones soon or it’ll ruin the whole thing. Totally reading the next one!!!
